Chapter 532: Amon's Humanity?
In the Hall of Stars, Hastur was overlooking the entirety of Backlund.
Every one of Amon's avatars that infiltrated Backlund was under his watchful eye. Occasionally, he would conjure a relatively weak avatar to chat with Amon.
Sometimes, he would quietly observe Amon's avatars, watching their every move to see what they intended to do next.
Occasionally, he would extend his vision, scanning the Northern Continent, the Southern Continent, and forsaken land of the god to determine where Amon's true body might be hiding.
However, this was extremely taxing and consumed a significant amount of spiritual power. Wanting to maintain multiple avatars throughout the night, Hastur had to retract his gaze and rest against the back of his chair for a while.
Although he was already an extraordinary being of Sequence 3, his spiritual power was not infinite.
Especially since he had to maintain a starlight avatar that was almost as powerful as his true body, and the miracles he performed through the Hall of Stars had also consumed a lot of his spiritual power.
Otherwise, he could indeed watch over the entire real world from a high vantage point like the true gods.
Currently, the Lord of Storms and the God of Knowledge and Wisdom had already taken sides in the matter of Amon. Although the Goddess of the Night had not expressed her stance, she also did not like Amon's personality; otherwise, she would not have chosen to support Klein.
The Steam Church was a useless ally, and everything depended on how the Hidden Sage performed. The Earth Mother and the Goddess of the Night were staunch allies, and he had seen the Earth Mother's presence in the Goddess of the Night's divine kingdom multiple times.
As for the Eternal Blazing Sun, lasting until the apocalypse before falling would already be a good outcome.
Basically, except for the True Creator and Adam, Amon's father, the other true gods and hidden beings more or less disapproved of Amon.
With many allies, Amon would eventually pay for his current actions when he competed with Klein again in the future.
Speaking of which, when Amon failed and came to the starry sky, Hastur should be able to teach him some rules by then.
For now, even with the help of the Primordial Hunger, finding and targeting Amon was not an easy task.
However, this did not prevent him from writing a grand narrative about tonight's events.
For example, tonight's chase had Amon fleeing in panic, with his tail between his legs, from Backlund all the way to forsaken land of the god.
After all, Amon was good at deception, and few people would believe his words.
In this way, the Church of the Yellow King could use the matter of Amon to establish its authority.
"Does the King in Yellow really not exist anymore?" Hastur thought of this crucial question again.
He had waited for a long time tonight and observed for a long time in the Hall of Stars, but he still did not see any sign of the King in Yellow.
This forced him to gradually replace the King in Yellow through the blessing of the stars.
Yet, even so, the King in Yellow remained silent, and the contents of the golden box were eerily quiet.
This dead silence made Hastur even more worried.
He also considered whether his current sequence was too low to trigger the King in Yellow's contingency plans.
Perhaps he had to advance to Sequence 1, or even ascend to godhood, before the stars or the King in Yellow would awaken within him?
There were simply too many possibilities.
Hastur continued to ponder for a while before turning his attention to his light avatar.
With the extraordinary ability of "Beyond," he had an unparalleled speed in traveling. Guided by his true body in the Hall of Stars, he had caught Amon's avatars multiple times.
Unfortunately, with the Primordial Hunger by his side, all the Time Worms he captured were devoured like candy.
Soon, he crossed the Northern Continent, over the Sea of Ruins, and arrived at forsaken land of the god.
Before he could find Amon, Urolius appeared before him, and the True Creator used Urolius as a conduit to draw Hastur's avatar to the black holy mountain.
Here, it was only Hastur and the True Creator, hidden behind the shadows of a large cross.
"Amon will be the hope of the future," the True Creator's first words were an attempt to end tonight's hunt.
"I don't think his presence or absence will make much difference to the future."
"We always need a second choice."
Although Hastur did not want to give up tonight's hunt so easily, the True Creator's words were undeniably correct.
There must always be a second choice.
This was not only the True Creator's personal desire; other observing gods and hidden beings thought the same way.
Having choices allowed for investment and alignment, which made them feel more secure.
"Which do you think is more important, divinity or humanity?" Hastur countered with a question.
"Humanity. It is the foundation for resisting madness and chaos."
Hastur smiled. He knew the True Creator would answer this way; he had no other choice.
"Do you think Amon possesses enough humanity to resist madness and chaos?"
"Fun, mischief, and deceit are also manifestations of humanity."
"That's only because he has always had smooth sailing and has never been on the brink of despair. He has no real humanity, only the arrogance of relying on his powerful abilities to bully the weak."
"Great power inevitably leads to such phenomena. You, I, and they are all essentially the same."
"Amon severely lacks the spirit of sacrifice. In critical moments, he will inevitably retreat."
"Fear of death is also a form of humanity," the True Creator calmly replied.
Hastur laughed. According to the True Creator's logic, all of Amon's actions could be attributed to humanity.
Oh, Adam seemed to have more humanity than Amon. After all, humanity encompassed everything.
"Now I understand why you have never been able to convince Adam."
"Verbal arguments can never solve everything."
Hastur chuckled, "Although what you say sounds reasonable, it still doesn't hide your special care for Amon."
"This is also my humanity."
Unable to refute this, Hastur fell silent for a moment. "Only for tonight, if he doesn't provoke me again."
"Agreed," the True Creator added, "You should also stop protecting Pales."
"Hah, that's another matter entirely."
The True Creator said no more, and the black holy mountain faded away. Hastur reappeared in the empty Sea of Ruins.
In the sky, the stars and crimson moon had disappeared, replaced by a rising sun.
"How thoughtful," Hastur muttered.
Soon, the Primordial Hunger came over, still chewing on something.
Seeing Hastur's gaze, it quickly swallowed what was in its mouth and grinned, "Shall we continue the chase?"
"You seem very excited."
"I always take eating seriously."
"Do you have too much humanity?"
The Primordial Hunger shook its head, "On the contrary, we lack humanity, which is why we seem so abundant."
"If you had been stuck eating grilled fish in the sea for ten thousand years, and suddenly a bunch of fruits appeared in front of you, you would abandon the grilled fish and rush to the fruits, even if you didn't like fruits at all."
The Primordial Hunger's simple metaphor made Hastur better understand the mindset of higher-dimensional observers and these ancient outer gods.
"Wouldn't you get tired of eating too many fruits?"
"Heh heh."
The Primordial Hunger did not answer Hastur's question.
...
Backlund, the Yellow King Church.
It was late at night, and Lady Lisa, as the first pope of the Yellow King Church, was openly discussing the future demands of the church. The archbishops of the six major orthodox churches, already seated together, inevitably began to discuss.
Other secret organizations were curious, waiting for the six major orthodox churches' stance.
As a bystander, Klein listened with great interest, occasionally sharing his thoughts with the elderly man in the rabbit mask who was glowing yellow and Mr. Azik.
Although Leonard also wanted to quietly observe, as a member of the Church of the Night, he had to appear indignant.
The main demands of the Yellow King Church could be summarized into three points:
The Yellow King Church wanted to become an orthodox church on the same level as the six major churches, rather than a secret organization that could only recruit followers in the shadows.
The Yellow King Church wanted to occupy the Western District of Backlund to preach and recruit followers, and it wanted the six major churches to endorse it to increase its credibility.
The Yellow King Church wanted to share the followers and land of the Feysac Empire with the Church of the Night, arguing that it was the most star-filled nation near the extreme north.
