Chapter 208: Susie, Do You Also Like Roselle's Quotes?
"Audrey, I'm not sure about this question either."
Susie shook her head and began recounting the events of the previous night to Audrey.
"Mr. Hastur only asked you to stand guard around the area and didn't tell you what exactly was happening?"
Audrey was also uncertain whether it was Mr. Hastur and Susie who helped her last night or if she saved herself.
"I don't know. He just said there should be a tall tower here and asked if I had seen it, but I didn't find anything."
"I see."
Audrey nodded and asked again, "How did Mr. Hastur know there was a tall tower there?"
"Not sure. He seems to be able to see things that I can't."
"Anything else?"
"Audrey, do dogs dream? How are human dreams different from dog dreams?"
"…Susie, I just want to know about Mr. Hastur."
"When he left, he was very sure you would wake up. I don't know where his confidence came from."
"Susie, I saw you and Mr. Hastur in my foggy dream last night."
Audrey also recounted her adventure from the previous night to Susie, without hiding anything, as Susie wouldn't tell anyone else.
"That's amazing. I really want to go in and see it too." Susie expressed her longing.
"I'll take you in if there's a chance in the future."
"Audrey, can you freely enter and exit there now?"
"Yes, but there's one thing you can't tell anyone. I now have a crystal ball in my spiritual world, and through it, I can enter that mysterious world again."
"That's interesting."
"Yes, it's very interesting, but I can't guarantee that entering that spiritual world is absolutely safe, so I can't take you in for now."
"Alright, Audrey, I trust you." Susie sighed regretfully.
Audrey, feeling pleased, thought for a moment and asked, "Susie, what do you think of Mr. Hastur?"
"He's very mysterious and seems very concerned about you."
Susie began talking about some details of her interaction with Hastur last night. When she mentioned that Hastur's clothes were torn by thorns and he had to go home to change, Audrey understood that Mr. Hastur must have helped her in ways she didn't know.
He was confident she would wake up, so he could calmly return to his manor before coming to check on her.
"Susie, you didn't reveal that you can speak human language, did you?"
"No."
Susie shook her head but then hesitated, "Sometimes I suspect that Mr. Hastur is a mind reader. He always seems to know exactly what I want to express."
"Susie, could it be that Mr. Hastur has already seen through you?"
"…"
Susie's tail stiffened, and she became a bit nervous.
She had a similar premonition last night but wasn't sure. Now that she thought about it, it seemed quite possible.
"…"
Seeing this, Audrey also fell silent.
"Audrey, what should I do? Can humans accept a dog that can speak human language?"
"…I don't think it's that difficult."
"Oh, then it's fine."
Susie's expression brightened, and she wagged her tail, not caring about the previous question.
Seeing this, Audrey felt a bit deflated and said, "Susie, you don't seem to care much about this matter?"
"Emperor Roselle once said: When you face a situation you can't change, the only thing you can do is learn to accept it silently."
"…"
Audrey's eyes widened. She never expected to hear a quote from Emperor Roselle from Susie.
Oh my, where did it read that from? How come I don't know?
"Audrey, is this quote surprising?"
Susie looked at Audrey blankly, her expression inexplicably annoying.
"…"
Seeing Audrey's silence, Susie happily said, "Emperor Roselle also said: When you use knowledge to gain the upper hand in a conversation, you should feel proud because knowledge is humanity's best weapon."
"…"
Audrey originally didn't want to say anything, but seeing that Susie was not stopping, she decisively said, "Susie, are you hungry?"
"…Audrey, I seem to have not eaten since last night."
"Great, let's go enjoy lunch."
Audrey, in a good mood, led Susie out of the room.
During lunch, Hastur was invited to stay by Earl Hall, and Hibbert also returned, accompanied by Glaint .
They were indeed out playing this weekend, at Glaint 's manor.
Upon hearing Audrey's news, Hibbert and Glaint rushed over.
After lunch, Hastur wanted to go back and rest. After all, he had been exploring the forest from dusk till dawn and then rushed to Earl Hall's manor this morning. He was really tired.
He always valued his sleep.
Hibbert and Glaint stopped him, asking about Audrey.
They only knew that Earl Hall had sent someone to request help from the Church of the Night, which eventually alarmed Archbishop Anthony.
As for the other details, they were unaware.
With Earl Hall's prior reminder, Hastur avoided talking about his contributions and attributed Audrey's awakening to the protection of the Goddess of the Night.
Hibbert was relieved, while Glaint was slightly skeptical.
He knew Hastur's character and knew he would do something rather than wait for Audrey to wake up on her own.
Hastur didn't explain anything. While the three were chatting, Graylint, who had finished feeding Hogg, also came over.
The four of them went to the back garden of the manor to chat and happened to meet Audrey, Earl Hall, and Susie, who was resting on the ground.
"You guys chat first. I'm a bit tired and will go back to my room to rest."
Audrey checked the time; it was almost 3 PM. Today was Monday, the day of the Tarot meeting.
"I'm also a bit tired and want to rest for a while."
Hastur also proposed to leave temporarily, as he really wanted to take a nap.
But in Hibbert and Glaint 's eyes, it was obvious that Hastur wanted to create an opportunity to chat alone with Audrey, so they generously let him leave.
Hastur, led by a maid, went to a guest room on the second floor.
Passing by Audrey's room, he saw Susie guarding the door vigilantly.
Realizing it was Monday and Audrey was hiding to attend the Tarot meeting, with Susie keeping watch, Hastur stopped to tease Susie.
"Susie, where is Miss Audrey?"
"Woof."
"I want to see Miss Audrey. Can you lead the way?"
"Woof!"
"After all, we explored together last night. You shouldn't be so heartless, right?"
"Woof."
"Emperor Roselle said: Dogs are humans' most loyal friends."
"Woof." Susie wagged her tail.
"Emperor Roselle also said: The pursuit of knowledge is what distinguishes all wise beings from other animals."
"Woof?"
"Do you also like Emperor Roselle's quotes?"
"Woof."
"Then I recommend you buy a copy of 'The Complete Quotes of Emperor Roselle,' which details all of Emperor Roselle's interesting remarks."
"Woof!" Susie's eyes lit up, showing great interest.
Hastur was about to say more when Audrey's personal maid approached, looking wary.
"Susie, let's discuss Emperor Roselle's artistic achievements next time."
"Woof."
After Hastur left, Susie lay on the ground, feeling a bit scared. She almost blurted out a "yes."
Fortunately, she controlled herself in time.
"The Complete Quotes of Emperor Roselle" sounded like a good book. Do humans also like Emperor Roselle?
She thought only she could appreciate Emperor Roselle's lonely and unknown feelings.
Next time, she would ask Audrey to buy it for her.
…
Tarot Meeting.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Fool."
"Good afternoon, Miss Magician."
"Good afternoon, Mr. Sun."
"Huh… where is Mr. Hanged Man?"
After greeting everyone, Audrey noticed that Mr. Hanged Man was missing.
She was curious and a bit relieved. If she had woken up a day later, she would have missed the Tarot meeting like Mr. Hanged Man.
"He encountered some issues and couldn't attend this Tarot meeting," Klein explained Audrey's doubt.
Two days ago, Klein received a prayer from Mr. Hanged Man.
In his prayer, Mr. Hanged Man mentioned that he was in a very bad situation and might not be able to attend the Tarot meeting next Monday.
He also mentioned that he might need Mr. Fool's help at a critical moment.
After finishing his prayer, Mr. Hanged Man ended it quickly, as if he was wary of something.
Klein just took it as he knew about the situation.
As for how to help, he currently had no ability to intervene directly in matters happening at sea.
He could only wish Mr. Hanged Man good luck.
