Chapter Four : Attack

Sage and Emilia stood in an elevator headed downwards, Emilia looking at Sage's picture and gushing on and on about how adorable she looked. Sage grabbed a paper and his face turned confused.

He gave the most confused stare to Emilia who smiled, already knowing what he had found confusing.

"I put you in school so you can make some friends. If you think you can change my mind, you can't. After we quell your bloodlust, you'll head off to school." Sage sighed sadly, wanting to cry because he had barely finished high-school once, and he now had to do it again.

"This isn't like that book where the vampires do this forever, right?" Sage asked carefully, considering trying to run away if he had to do so. He wouldn't do school forever, he was certain of that.

"I won't send you to school forever, I just want you to make some friends and come out of that fortress you've erected around yourself. Learn to take risks, you might like it more than you think." Emilia spoke with a motherly tone, making it hard for Sage to deny that she might be telling the truth.

"Fine, but I'm only doing a year and we'll see after that." Sage almost asked how much it would be, but he then remembered he was a member of Clan Nightrose, a filthy rich family. In the bundle of documents, he even had a credit card embroidered in gold.

"Good. Because you're of Noble blood, you can master your bloodlust faster than the average vampire. It took me a few hours to stop being hypersensitive around humans, and centuries to withhold the urge to drink their blood."

"Of course, being my daughter, you're naturally a prodigy. I doubt that it'd even pose a problem for you. Don't forget, you are a vampire. You are physically stronger and faster than a human ever could be, and even those with special abilities are no match for Noble Vampires."

"Special Ability users aren't all that special. Any Noble Vampire can easily defeat them, but when they start to gather, it gets annoying." Sage frowned because while he was human, he had never even heard of special abilities, and now being told of them, he didn't doubt it because he himself was a vampire, a creature of myth, one that parents used to scare children at night!

"I get the feeling that Noble Vampires are all lazy people." Emilia smiled at his comment and was about to deny it when she thought better of it.

"Yeah, pretty much. If we can do nothing, I doubt any one of them would bother to do something. That's why except for the Aeon Clan, we aren't much superior to humans technology wise. I haven't visited the Aeon Clan in decades..."

"Aeon Clan? Another Noble Vampire clan?" Emilia nodded and decided to explain after they got into the car. Walking across the lobby, it was no different as they were stared at once again by people who were shocked by their beauty.

After getting out of the elevator, they walked to the parked car but Emilia froze a few meters away from it, her nose picking up scents that weren't there when they arrived. As Sage had just been Turned, he didn't utilize his heightened senses constantly as it didn't come naturally but took practice.

"What is that smel-?" Sage's eyes widened as a gunshot echoed in the parking garage, and using his speed, he stepped back and reappeared a few meters away, a bullet wound with smoke rising from the hole visible in his blue shirt.

"Hunters! You dare?!" Emilia vanished and a strangled cry sounded from a distance away. Sage tried to ignore the pain that was getting worse and looked in time to see Emilia's hand tear through a man's chest and gripped his beating heart with a predatory look on her face.

"I let you live despite your actions, but you dare harm my daughter? Be grateful I don't have the time to make you regret being born." A chilling coldness froze the man's heart, spreading through his veins and arteries until every centimeter of his body was frozen.

Sage raised a hand to his wound and a chilling expression surfaced, making his angelic face look distorted. With the gust of the wind, Sage had already locked on to, and arrived behind a man who was hiding behind a pillar.

"I didn't do anything to deserve being killed like this." Sage grabbed the man by the throat and with an almost instinctive action, he felt his fangs extend and sink into the man's throat. Hot blood gushed into his mouth like a raging tide, and he gulped it down, not noticing when Emilia had arrived besides him, her fingers turning into sharp claws which she used to dig into his wound to retrieve the silver bullet.

"Sorry, mommy is sorry. I didn't expect these fools to make a move! Bear with it a little longer." Sage's skin had already turned black around the wound and the color seemed to be slowly spreading from the wound like poison.

"It's a silver bullet. If you were alone, you might not have been able to escape, but because I'm here, don't worry, just drink." Emilia dug the silver bullet out of Sage's wound and watched as the silver burned the skin on her palm, feeling a of myriad emotions churning like a raging sea.

The gunshot was bound to draw attention, but even so Emilia didn't rush Sage who had stopped drinking ravenously and started to savor the warmth and taste of the blood in his mouth, a heavenly delicacy.

"Dear, we should leave before the police come. The governments may know of our existence, but the rank and file police do not. If we encounter them, it might become a little tiresome. How I miss the days where I could walk across the battlefield because all I had to do was kill every witness, now there is technology that make that nigh on impossible."

"Mother, his blood... it tastes different..." Sage's fangs slowly retracted and a bout of dizziness overtook him, making him stagger backwards into Emilia who hurriedly supported him with concern on her face.

"Poison?" Now that Sage wasn't drinking the source of it, Emilia could smell weird undertones in the blood. It wasn't hard for her to pick up on different scents at once, and she could smell something in the blood, something she disliked.

"Shit! This isn't poison! It's werewolf venom!" Because Sage was a Noble Vampire, the venom wouldn't kill him, but it would cause nausea and fatigue and intense pain, something vampires hated because they never felt tired under normal circumstances.

"Mom, I don't feel good." Sage mumbled as a surge of burning pain made him gasp. It felt as if his skin was burning up while his core was deathly cold. Soon, Sage couldn't maintain his consciousness and slumped, but was quickly supported by Emilia.

"I swear, I will make you pay for this!" A wrathful voice left Emilia's lips as she looked at her unconscious daughter who's face started to sweat, something that was normally impossible for a vampire.

With a flicker, Emilia vanished, leaving the sports car because she'd draw too much attention in it, but she also hated the fact she'd attract the police to her residence. With her speed, she could cover several tens of meters in a second.

Instead of going home, she looked at the skies and then decided to find a passerby so Sage could drink cleaner blood, so he could recover faster. She now regretted letting Sage come out as he now suffered needlessly.

They both reappeared in an alleyway where a group of guys had gathered, surrounding a girl who wore skimpy clothing. Emilia wasn't in the mood to talk and instead acted immediately. The guys reeking of booze didn't have time to react because Emilia had already moved.

One man felt an unstoppable force hit his chest, sending him tumbling through the air as if he were hit by a truck. Another simply had his neck twisted and it snapped with a crisp breaking sound, while another was flash frozen, a sign that Emilia was anxious as she didn't even do her usual routine of playing around with her food.

The other two tried to run, but as if it were inescapable, a blade made from ice cleaved them in half, causing guts and entrails to fall on to the ground. Only the girl was left alive because in but a short moment, all the men had inexplicably died gruesome deaths.

...

She couldn't withhold the fear she felt, it showing itself on her face despite her best efforts to maintain a calm appearance. The drunken men laughed vulgarly as they approached, and just as she had prepared to defend herself by kicking one of them and trying to flee, two people appeared.
