Chapter 26 Felix’s Past

As Felix sat there the woman said "Starting from the beginning may take too long, so I suppose I'll skip some of the story." The woman thought for a moment and then said "Speaking about before you found me would probably take too long to." The woman smiled as she said, "I guess it starts with me running away from my village." Felix stared at her as he asked "Why did you run away?" The girl thought for a moment and said "It was because I met and made friends with a yokai." Felix thought for a moment as he asked "What kind of yokai?" The girl thought for a moment as she said "It's the same one that brought you here a moment ago… although she was a lot younger then… she was also a lot weaker and the people chased her off and tried to kill me." Felix stared at her as he said "And then you ran away?" The woman nodded as she said, "Yes, I ran for three days without stopping out of fear and eventually collapsed from exhaustion in a field." Felix continued to stare at her as he waited for her to continue and then asked "And then what happened?" The woman stared at him as she said "Well… then I met you… you found me in the field."

The woman smiled as she said "Shortly after I started living with you… and we visited that field often." Felix thought about the flashback he had about her in a field as he said "Well that kinda explains some stuff." Felix stared at her as he thought "Although it doesn't explain your name... I really wouldn't mind knowing your name... although it feels really… awful… to ask your wife for her own name." Felix continued to stare at her as he asked "What happened next?" The woman thought for a moment and then said "We lived peacefully for a few years and then I found you on the path barely alive in a pool of your own blood with two buckets of spilled water near you." The woman stared at his tail as she said "I can remember it like it was yesterday… you didn't look like this though… it looked like you were trying your hardest not to die." Felix sighed as he said, "So I was stubborn until I died." The woman nodded as she said, "Yup… and while you were dying I begged the gods to spare you and hoped that they'd listen." The woman smiled as she said, "And then the yokai I made friends with appeared." Felix stared at her as he nervously asked "D-did she… make you trade your soul to bring me back?"

The girl stared at him with a confused look as she said "Um… no… she didn't do anything like that… but she did contact one of her higher-ups and that person brought you back to life with the condition of killing me." Felix stared at her in confusion as he asked "Why did you take that offer?" The woman sighed as she said, "Unfortunately I didn't know that spirits existed… otherwise I wouldn't have agreed to it and would've just waited until I passed on peacefully to be with you." Felix stared at her as thought for a moment and then asked "Couldn't I just be with you if I died?" The woman flinched as she said, "If you died as a fox spirit you wouldn't be able to become a normal spirit… they're two different kinds of yokai and it's completely impossible to become another without a divine being or something else very powerful." Felix sighed as he said, "So I really can't be with you?" The woman shook her head as she said "No… so you should find another wife as soon as possible." Felix flinched as he nervously said "R-right." The woman stared at him smiling as she said "I expect you to find someone ten times prettier than me okay?"

Felix glanced away as he thought "The odds of me finding someone willing to marry me who isn't gonna blab about me being a fox spirit are incredibly low." Felix thought for another moment as he said "Now that I think about it… you said you found me lying in my own blood right? How did that even happen?" The woman stared at him as she said "That was the doing of another yokai in the area… though that yokai didn't mean to kill you… it was severely punished and was sentenced to a few hundred years of imprisonment." The woman stared at him as she asked "Do you have any more questions?" Felix thought for a while and then said "None that I can think of." The woman stared at him as she smiled and said "Well I have a question for you." Felix stared at her as he asked "What's your question?" The woman smiled as she said, "Do you remember my name?" Felix flinched as he nervously said "Y-yeah… it's… Sarah?" The woman continued to stare at him as she said "If you don't remember just say you don't remember… I'd prefer if you didn't lie to me." The woman smiled as she said, "My name is Pamela… so don't forget it again… okay?" Felix nodded as he said "O-okay."

As the purple-haired girl walked into the house she glanced at Pamela and said "His time limit just ran out, I have things to do so I'll be returning him now." As a blue flame surrounded Felix he stared at Pamela for a moment and then nervously shouted "I-I'll… I'll find another wife… so you don't have to worry about me dying alone!" As he vanished the purple-haired girl glanced at Pamela and said "You know you really are foolish… sending him to get another wife fully knowing that he'll most likely outlive any of the wives he chooses." The purple-haired girl laughed as she said "I mean it really is cruel… besides I can also see your desires… what you actually desire is for him to be with you and only you… and right now… your holding in all those tears regretting what you asked for." As a tear rolled down Pamela's face she said "Yeah… so I don't want him to suffer because of one foolish mistake I made… I don't want him to continue on with someone like me who he can't even touch." The purple-haired girl sighed as she said "Seriously… your crying over this again." The purple-haired girl stared at her for a moment and then sat down in the chair Felix was sitting in and sighed as she said "Go on… keep crying until it's all out."

As Felix appeared in front of a lit oven he stared at it for a moment as he nervously said "T-this feels… very familiar." As Felix continued to stare at the oven he heard Lilac's voice intimidatingly ask "Why did you appear in my apartment?" Felix flinched as he slowly turned to face her as he said "I-I didn't mean to… I didn't… I can only appear near a lit flame… it's that girl's fault." Lilac glared at him even more as she said "That girl?" Felix flinched and began to back away as he nervously said "Y-yeah… the one with the purple hair and eyes." Lilac pulled out a knife as she shouted "Your excuses… are pissing me off!" Felix backed against a wall as he said "P-please put the knife down." Lilac stabbed him in the stomach as she said "I'll let you go… once you realize that you should stop popping up in my apartment!" Lilac began to shove more and more knives into him as she shouted "You pervert! Get out of here already!" Felix ran out the door with about a dozen knives sticking out of himself as he closed the door behind himself and collapsed as he mumbled, "Just how many knives does she have?" Felix pulled one of the knives out of his side as he mumbled "Well knives sticking out of me are the least of my troubles right now."

Felix sat up and began to pull more of the knives out of himself as he said "I need to find a new wife so my dead wife can rest in peace without worrying about me… but… that's a lot easier said than done." Felix thought for a moment as he said "I bet if I asked the others how to easily get a wife they'd know something." Felix thought for a moment as he said "Actually I'm pretty sure Silkie mentioned something about that rectangle that takes pictures… I think she said… it has an app for people who want to get together and become a couple." Felix sighed as he said, "But that probably won't work since I don't have one of those magic rectangles." Felix stood up and walked towards his apartment as he thought "I feel like I was set with an impossible task all of a sudden." As Felix entered his apartment he sighed and said "Well I said I'd find a wife… not that I'd find a wife right away."
