Chapter 148.1 : Shachmono vs Kurapika!!

Kurapika retracted his chain, letting it wrap around his arm, and began to breathe heavily.

After several months of training and improving his "Ten, Zetsu, Ren and Hatsu" technique, dealing with armed guards wasn't a problem for him anymore.

To Kurapika now, the bullets they fired looked like they were moving in slow motion, so naturally, they couldn't hit him.

However, the man standing before him, Shachmono, was different.

After instructing the Nostrade family members to stop shooting to avoid friendly fire, Shachmono crouched down slowly, pressing his palms against the damp grass.

In no time, the "Eleven Black Children" appeared, sprouting like mushrooms after a rainstorm.

They were all dressed in black robes with hoods, almost resembling members of the KKK. Though clearly made from mental energy, they moved and fought just like real humans.

Out of the "Eleven Black Children," three held guns while the other eight carried swords. After Shachmono whispered his command to "attack the nearest enemies," they moved in unison.

Their movements were somewhat stiff, but relentless. Eight of them charged forward for close combat, while the three with guns fired from a distance, forcing Kurapika to constantly dodge.

At his current level, Kurapika couldn't handle them using his "chain," which didn't have any special abilities yet. Before long, his body was covered in bruises, and he even suffered a cut on his chest.

Looking down at his bleeding wound, Kurapika raised his head to glare at Shachmono and the "Eleven Black Children."

Germain once said that because the Emission Nen type is closely related to Manipulation, Nen beasts from this type often require human control. They aren't as intelligent as Nen beasts from the Transformation or Conjuration types.

In other words, if Kurapika could interfere with Shachmono or even threaten his life, he could win.

But standing between him and Shachmono were the "Eleven Black Children," and at his current skill level, Kurapika couldn't easily break through.

"If only I had two more months to train…," he thought. But when things get to this point, there's no room for "ifs."

Shachmono seemed to sense Kurapika's frustration and gave him a mocking smile.

"A rookie in Nen? Your employer must be out of his mind, sending a newbie to assassinate me."

Kurapika clenched his teeth at Shachmono's words. If not for his colored contact lenses, his eyes would've glowed crimson from his frustration and unwillingness.

But the truth was undeniable—he wasn't strong enough yet. He admitted it. Still, he desperately wanted to use "Emperor Time" to silence Shachmono.

"Emperor Time" would boost all of his abilities, and maybe then, he'd stand a chance at winning.

But he remembered Germain's warning.

"Only use 'Emperor Time' when absolutely necessary."

Now clearly wasn't the time. Shachmono was only one of the three Nen users they would face.

Germain had specifically warned Kurapika because the "Scarlet Eyes" were part of his Kurta clan's bloodline, something that could never be separated from him. However, there was an inevitable cost when using the "Emperor Time" ability.

When "Emperor Time" was activated, each second that passed reduced Kurapika's lifespan by one hour.

This kind of "Vows and Limitations," which burned through his life, was a curse tied to his bloodline—something Kurapika couldn't change. Perhaps this was why their Kurta clan was often referred to as "demons." Someone from the past had likely used it, lost control, and died suddenly.

Others had thought of transplanting the Scarlet Eyes into their own bodies to gain its power, but they all failed, dying from extreme rejection.

As a result, people both admired and feared the Kurta clan's Scarlet Eyes. Since no one could harness their power, many considered them valuable as collector's items to simply observe.

In time, the Scarlet Eyes became one of the "seven greatest beauties in the world."

While Kurapika was reflecting on this, he heard Shachmono shout impatiently.

"Hey!" Shachmono yelled angrily, "Why aren't you answering me? Who sent you? Tell me, and I'll give you a quicker death."

Apparently, Shachmono had been asking questions, but Kurapika ignored him, which only made Shachmono angrier.

Kurapika still didn't answer, instead relaxing his body and taking a slight step back.

"It's not time yet," Kurapika said calmly, grabbing his chain. "Right now, my only enemies are the regular guards. As for you, there are two more Nen users..."

"You're my teacher's prey."

Kurapika gave Shachmono a faint smile, tilting his head sharply.

With a sudden *whoosh*, a piercing whistle echoed through the air, and something shot out from the darkness behind Kurapika, emerging into the light where he had turned his head.

Before Shachmono could figure out what it was, he saw that nearly half of the "Eleven Black Children" standing near him were pierced through, each of them left with terrifying, uniform holes in their bodies.

"What the hell?!"

Shachmono was horrified. He saw a small black dot racing toward him at lightning speed.

Instinctively, he raised his hand to block it, but it tore through his palm, and with a sickening *puff*, it pierced straight into his forehead!

The riverside, shrouded in the night's darkness, suddenly fell into eerie silence.

The "Eleven Black Children" all vanished into green smoke, and Shachmono suddenly lost his balance, falling face-first into the grass. Bright red blood gushed from his body.

Silence filled the air again, only to be interrupted by a sudden commotion.
