Chapter 36

Wes smiles. He always thought that the clockwork-bulb light was cold and prefers flames, which soften everything around them. Now, Wes doesn’t remember telling Ollie about it but Wes fully expected Ollie to just…know? Wes frowns. He expected Ollie to notice his preference. Was that fair?

But first, “Why were you alright with Randy and me being there without Mica knowing?”

Ollie chuckles again. “She knew.”

Wes makes an outraged noise.

“Mica smelled the blood; all her senses are similarly enhanced. She could hear you.” Ollie makes a pensive face. “I think that’s partly why she’s not sleeping.”

Wes nods, relieved. “Could be.” He lets out a silent sigh. “The rest are nightmares.”

Scratching at his neck lightly, Ollie agrees, “We have some time. Maybe it’ll be enough to convince her to come clean about them. She had something else in mind today and I felt like I couldn’t derail the subject.”
