"Mom," she continued calling as she stroked the surface of the phone as though she was stroking her mom's face.
Tears were dropping down her face as she did so. There was only one person she was doing it for and that was her mom.
"Mom, I hope you stay safe, I hope you recover," Kaia continued to sob and suddenly she view was changed to Angelica.
"Kaia, please tell me why you are dressed in a wedding dress, why did you not return yesterday?" Angelica questioned. She was highly concerned and worried about Kaia. She would not forgive herself if anything untoward happened towards the young girl.
"I'm fine, I'm just worried about a lot of things and about this wedding dress which I'm putting on, the thing is that I would be getting married today," she sniffed as she explained to Angelica.
Angelica was stunned and it was noticeable with the way she stated blankly at Kaia. Never would she have expected the young lad to get married and that too when her mom was lying in the hospital. She didn't even know her to have a boyfriend, then what happened.
Various thoughts begin to run through her mind and she began to see Kaia in a different light, a bad one at that.
"I thought you were different from the other girls, it turns out you are just the same," Angelica suddenly voiced out shocking the hell out of Kaia.
"What do you mean by that nurse?" Kaia asked, completely confused as to why she would make such a statement. It was totally unlike the nurse.
"I said what I mean, your mom is there fighting for her life and you are about to get married, and also if I recall clearly, you have no boyfriend, isn't that right?" Angelica continued to accuse Kaia who was getting annoyed with each passing second.
Who was she to accuse her? Was she even aware of her reasons? She did not bother to ask yet she opened her mouth to insult her.
"That's enough nurse, I appreciate all you do, I really do, but I would not sit back and watch you disrespect and insult me, do you have any idea as to why I'm getting married, no you don't, you can't just open your mouth and lay false accusations against me because I would not accept it," Kaia flared up immediately as she removed her veil.
Angelica wasn't expecting her to retort therefore she was extremely stunned but she noticed one thing, Kaia's eyes didn't depict that of an happy bride.
"Tell me what's wrong Kaia, you can talk to me," she suddenly lowered the intensity of her voice as she looked at Kaia.
"You don't need to know, sometimes, it's best for you to find out what's wrong before you throw false accusations towards someone, just take care of my mom," she gave her a befitting reply and hung up immediately.
Kaia crouched down and rested her back against the bed. She was disappointed, she never would have expected that the nurse whom she considered friendly would actually say such words to her.
"I think I have learnt my lesson, I dare not trust anyone, they only care about themselves, I can't trust anyone anymore," she muttered to herself as she buried her head between her legs.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't hurt by the words of Angelica but who cared, she was done living for people, it was time to live life on her own freewill, of her own accord.
"Miss Kaia, the groom's family is here already," someone knocked from the door bringing her out from her reverie.
"I'm on my way," she replied with a small voice as she put the veil on once more.
Kaia walked out of the room with slow steps and the stylists just looked at her with admiration. The pace at which she walked was just lovely and they could not help but nod in appreciation and admiration.
"I feel you are the most beautiful bride to emerge in the whole of the city," one of the younger stylists complimented which brought a smile to her face though it could not be seen as she was wearing a veil.
"Thank you, but I think it's best for you to stop exaggerating a lot," Kaia replied, ending her statement with a chuckle. She didn't quite believe what the youngster said.
What if she was just flattering me? She had had enough of people being chummy with her and yet they try to stab her in the back. It was enough, it was time for her to start thinking about herself and of course her mom, without caring about people's opinions as to how she lived her life.
They finally got to the living room and there, Kaia met a very handsome man seated on the couch with his legs crosslegged. Surely, he wasn't her would-be husband as he looked truly different from what the rumors had envisioned him to be.
"Hi, I will be your escort today, note, you are not going to have a wedding ceremony, boss has fallen sick and there's no way I will let him come out in such a condition, so my job today is to bring you to his residence and sign the papers," the man suddenly stood as he stared straight at her, his height towering hers which made her feel extremely scared.
"Alright, I understand, can we leave?" She requested in a small tone. She didn't see Madison anywhere but she was sure that she was somewhere watching and she was very sure she would be gloating at the moment.
"Alright, this way please," the hefty looking man directed as he made way for her to pass.
They were finally out of Madison's condominium and Kaia felt like the air outside was one of the best she had ever inhaled. Inside felt extremely suffocating and she was only happy she could be outside, far away from Madison and her quirky ways.
"This way miss," he directed as he led her to a car. It was a vintage car painted in cream color. It was one of a kind, Kaia noticed that one feature immediately. Well, what do you expect from the richest man in the whole country, you can't expect least from him.
"Please, do not refer me to as miss, my name is Ka...,I mean Madison," Kaia mentally slapped her forehead as she closed her eyes behind the veil. She almost made a slip-up. She had to act like Madison and she almost failed on the first day.
She only hoped he didn't pay attention to the silly mistake she just did. How could she be so dumb?
"That's fine miss Madison, you will be my boss's wife so it's only right for me to accord you the respect which you deserve," the man replied and Kaia could not help but notice how he stressed the name, "Madison" but as always, she didn't pay attention to it. She was only happy that the secret was still safe or so she thought.
