Chapter 4 : Master Makarov

The sudden earthquake caused the entire guild building to shake violently.

The wizards, previously engrossed in the Internet, were taken aback by the abrupt trembling. Tables and chairs wobbled, sending everyone into a state of shock.

"What's going on? Is this an earthquake!?"

"Ow! I just hit my head on the table!"

"What happened?! Wait, Master, when did you arrive?"

The mages, still dazed, finally spotted Makarov standing nearby.

The earthquake, while intense, was brief. It quickly subsided as Knight had carefully controlled the power to avoid serious damage.

"This is my second magic, shock magic," Knight explained.

"Silence!" Makarov ordered, rising slowly and patting his sore back.

The guild members immediately quieted down.

But the peace didn't last long.

Makao, finally processing what had happened, exclaimed, "Wait, Knight! Was that earthquake... you're doing?"

Knight nodded. "I was demonstrating another form of magic to the president. Sorry if I scared anyone."

Everyone was left speechless.

"Earthquake magic?" someone muttered.

"Man, these new guys are all monsters!" another chimed in.

"Reminds me of Gildarts," someone added. "He's got that insane crush magic… Is Knight just as crazy?"

"Gildarts, huh? His magic can obliterate almost anything," someone else remarked. "Knight, is your shock magic on that level?"

Dozens of wide eyes were now fixed on Knight. The realization that they had yet another powerful mage in their midst was sinking in.

"Alright, alright, enough chatter. Get those tables and chairs back in place!" Makarov grumbled, trying to bring order back to the guild.

Once everyone got to work, Makarov couldn't help but smile at Knight. "You've got quite the power there, kid. I can tell you were holding back, right? Not bad at all. It's much better than that fool Gildarts! Every time he comes back, he wrecks something, and I get yelled at by the Council."

Knight chuckled inwardly. He knew all too well how Makarov had to deal with the chaos caused by people like Natsu and Gildarts.

"So, kid," Makarov's tone shifted to a more serious one, "if you were to unleash your shock magic at full strength, what could it do?"

Knight thought for a moment before answering, wanting to make his case for an S-Class promotion. "If I went all out… I could trigger a tsunami large enough to flood Magnolia City. Or I could cause an earthquake that would tear the whole city apart, leaving it in ruins."

Makarov's face went blank, and the guild hall fell into a hushed silence as the other wizards, who had been eavesdropping, froze.

Another Gildarts… no, worse than Gildarts!

"President?" Knight asked, breaking Makarov's stunned silence. "About that S-Class promotion?"

Makarov sighed, rubbing his temples. "Come with me to the second floor."

Knight followed the guild master upstairs to where the S-Class commissions were posted. Unlike the lively atmosphere below, the second floor was quiet, reserved for only a few.

Makarov gestured to the board, showing Knight the three available commissions.

"The tasks up here are reserved for our S-Class wizards. Only three commissions are currently available," Makarov explained.

Knight scanned the board. The first task involved dismantling a dark guild called Plow Ox Horn and capturing its leader. The reward: 9 million J.

The second mission required finding the lost ruins of Gonason and recovering a magic book containing forbidden spells. The reward: 8 million J.

But it was the third mission that immediately caught Knight's attention: go to Garna Island and lift a local curse. The reward: 7 million J and a Zodiac Key.

That's the one!

"I'll take this one," Knight said confidently, tearing the commission from the board.

Makarov's jaw dropped. He hadn't brought Knight up here to pick a mission but to show him the difficulty and danger involved. Yet the boy had chosen an S-Class mission without hesitation!

"Wait a minute, Knight!" Makarov rushed to stop him. "You can't just…"

"President," Knight interrupted with a mischievous grin, "you don't want me taking regular jobs and accidentally leveling a town or two, right? I'm still mastering my shock magic. Sometimes… I don't control it very well."

Makarov's eyes narrowed. He knew full well that Knight had incredible control over his magic. But the thought of a young mage tearing down a city over something trivial sent a chill down his spine.

The guild had seen its fair share of such disasters, especially with Natsu and his friends around. And while Natsu wasn't here at the moment, Makarov dreaded the thought of what could happen if Knight's unchecked power was unleashed.

"Fine! But I'm not promoting you to S-Class just yet. If you want to try this mission, I'll allow it. But only this once. Fail, and there won't be a next time."

Knight smiled, satisfied. "Thank you, President. I'll complete the task, no problem."

As they spoke, Mirajane descended from the library with a magic book in hand.

"Knight? President? What are you two doing up here?" she asked, confused.

Knight walked over to her and accepted the book. "Thanks, Mirajane. I appreciate it."

"No problem! But be sure to return it when you're done, okay?"

"Got it," Knight said, tucking the book away.

Turning back to Makarov, Knight grinned. "Well then, President, I'm off to complete the mission."

With that, he hurried downstairs, leaving Makarov and Mirajane standing there.

"President," Mirajane began, "Knight's magic isn't suitable for—"

"His magic is far more powerful than you think, Mirajane," Makarov interrupted. "It's undoubtedly super magic. But I can't let him do this alone."

"Are you going to the council meeting?" Mirajane asked, puzzled.

"No…" Makarov sighed, already dreading the possible consequences. "I'm going to follow him, just to make sure he doesn't get himself killed."

Mirajane blinked, surprised. "You're worried?"

"If anything happens to him, it'll be my fault for agreeing to this."

Inwardly, Makarov justified his decision. He would quietly watch over Knight. If things went south, he'd step in to save the boy and remind him of the importance of caution.

Yes, this plan was perfect! Makarov thought with a grin. By the end, Knight would understand his good intentions and grow into a responsible guild member.

Ah, the wisdom of the elderly...
