First Evolution

Usually, for the first few levels in an evolving monster's life is spent trying to save up their energy for their first. However, that's the case for the usual evolving monster who had the capability to evolve since young.

Lavanuk is already a grown chicken. She can't evolve like the monsters since she's just an animal. Therefore, the system is there to provide her with the right evolution according to her personality and trait.

[Monster Evolution underway]

"Holy!"

Bob was surprised by the sudden light show. Just like during magical girl transformations, the bright light surrounded Lavanuk and enveloped her completely.

Underneath the light, Lavanuk's feathers were torn and removed from their roots, causing immense pain for her. Unlike Bob, she didn't have the luxury of the pain factor setting.

"BUCOCK!"

She screamed but her howls were drowned by the sound of her ripping flesh. Blood splattered everywhere and the torn feathers littered the ground, but the light still covered the now naked body of Lavanuk, the ex-chicken.

Her chicken body was reconstructed by the system to be more efficient. Her muscles that used to be heavy and bulked now contained less mass. Her bones were even more hollow than before. Her wings grew, transforming her into a chicken that could fly.

With her newfound wings of flight, Lavanuk flew into the air and the light followed her. The old brushy feathers she had were on the ground, and on her skin grew new shiny blood-tinged feathers.

She has been reborn, like a phoenix.

Lavanuk, who looked like your usual chicken, now looked like a majestic red bird. The only weird thing was that her wattles were still under her beak, uncharacteristic of birds.

"Lavanuk?" Bob couldn't recognize his chicken.

"Cluck?" Lavanuk, as usual, bobbed her head as she stared at him.

Before Bob got near her, she escaped and flew in circles. She was excited about suddenly getting the ability to fly. Too excited in fact, she activated one of her abilities.

"Woah!"

Bob got seared. The ground he stood on was suddenly set ablaze and the flames seemed to follow Lavanuk's tracks. She was a literal trailblazer.

"CLUCK?"

She panicked. First off, she experienced her life force being drained from her body, leaking out of her wings and spreading fire everywhere. Secondly, her owner was harmed.

Lavanuk flew right on top of Bob's head and perched on it just like the usual. However, Flame Wing was still active, causing Bob to burn more brightly.

"This. This is fine."

Bob couldn't care. There wasn't much pain to it anyway. He grabbed Lavanuk and held her in his arms. Causing him to burn even more passionately.

The man and the not-so-chicken chicken just had a wonderful time.

-

"What the fuck?"

An adventurer couldn't help but comment. He just saw something bizarre as he and his party passed through the area.

"Just move it. This isn't the first time we saw a man burn alive." Another person said. He was wearing quite the gallant armor and armed with a sword sheathed in a luxurious scabbard.

"I know, but I don't think there are any hostiles around here. Maybe that's a quest NPC?" The adventurer couldn't help but give his attention.

A man and a bird burning in broad daylight and on the road. This was something bizarre for him as these weird events are not common in low-level areas.

"Hey. Let's get moving, we're here on your request, let's make this quick."

They were a high-leveled party. They weren't supposed to be within the Kingdom of Doof as it was one of the beginner-available kingdoms.

"I don't remember there being a story quest in this village, or did I miss something?" The adventurer just couldn't let it go.

"Well, if you're that interested, just go and talk to him." The party leader gave up and just permitted him to take a look, ultimately slowing down their travels.

"Hmm. Nah. Let's just go. Let's not waste any time." The adventurer, given the permission, suddenly lost his interest.

"Alright then, just remember Chikinsupu, we already finished most quests from this village. I doubt the rewards will be enough for us all."

The party silently moved, ignoring the burning man.

-

After not burning to death, Bob and Lavanuk once again felt their companionship. Chicken and man, a relationship that transcends race. Let's just be glad that Bob isn't degenerate.

"Hey. Did it hurt?" Bob asked.

"Cluck." Lavanuk nodded her head.

He didn't talk about any of the new features and upgrades that Lavanuk was granted by the evolution. He was more worried about whether Lavanuk had a hard time or not.

"Ok. That's great."

"Cluck. Cluck."

Lavanuk was having a good time. The pleasure of gaining the ability to fly outweighed the pain she experienced from the evolution.

After suddenly gaining those new abilities, it would only be natural to try them out.

-

After testing out the new abilities, Lavanuk found that the most draining skill she had was Flame Wing. Unlike Ignite and Flame Shot, the Flame Wing constantly siphoned her energy.

"I think the best part of your evolution is your ability to fly."

"Cluck."

So they spent their time together and Bob was successfully distracted from the morbid thoughts of his party members dying.

When the evening came, there was still no word from anyone, not even Annera reached showed her presence. This worried Bob a bit but he began to accept that this is the life of adventurers.

No job security, no home, no family. All they have are gold coins, a few journeys they can brag about, and nasty breaths wasting away in drinks.

"I am a typical adventurer now."

To fit the bill completely, Bob went back to Sunnyside village and entered the local pub. What greeted him was something that he expected, people.

Typical NPC adventurers were drinking away their remaining life funding on booze. Dirty floors, pretty waitresses, and a few refreshing faces totally out of place.

"Welcome to Humpty's Dumpty, can I get you something?" A woman who was sweeping the floor near the entrance greeted Bob.

"Uhm. I haven't had lunch yet. Can you recommend me some food?" Bob knew how to talk to women.

"At this hour? My, why don't you just grab a few sandwiches, eating a full meal now would mean you're gonna have a hard time this coming dinner."

"Okay."

"Cluck."

Due to Lavanuk's clucking, the waitress realized her presence and was alarmed.

"Hmm? Sir, animals aren't allowed in the premises. I'm sorry but you're going to have to leave it outside."

Finally, a logical restaurant.

"Can I just order the sandwiches and eat them outside?" Bob could only compromise. Even he knew that animals shouldn't be in a dining area.

The waitress accepted his request and led him outside first. Bob waited outside the pub, sitting on the porch of the establishment.

Creeeeeeak~

The door swung open, and Bob expected that his sandwich was now ready. But that wasn't the case.

"Excuse me, mister." A refreshing face he saw earlier in the pub came up to him.

"You can have this." The person reached out and offered a plate.

The person's voice wasn't too deep and wasn't too high. It was hard to determine the gender. The face was also neutral, androgynous.

"Umm. Thanks?" Bob took the plate and stood up.

The plate wasn't his. Its contents weren't sandwiches, but a mix and match of parts from different meals.

"What is this?" Bob couldn't help but ask.

"Sir, my party and I saw that you weren't allowed in the building. We figured that you're cold and hungry, probably on your last leg."

"No, not really. But thank you. I appreciate it."

Bob sat back down on the porch and dove right into eating. He forgot about the waitress's advice about not eating a full meal a few hours before dinner.

The person went back inside, feeling fulfilled. Talked to their party members-

"Hey guys. I gave it to him already."

"Nice. It's always good to give to the needy. I wonder how he became a homeless man."

Hey guys, the release for the 2nd chapter will be delayed. But here's the first one.
