Distress Call

Adam meets his old university crush in a high-end restaurant and discovers her doing something unimaginable; trying to jump off the building. He manages to take her home and tie her down, in case she tries to do it again. However, when she wakes up, he discovers she was much different than the person she was while they were in university. Filled with renewed hope, he pursues her again and this time, he won't take no for an answer. Enter a serial killer into the equation, you know there's going to be drama. Warning; lots of angst and psychological elements but is still a refreshing read. There are also elements of capture so if you're sensitive to that, don't read too much meaning into it. Hope you enjoy it

Chapter 11

"You can take a nap if you want to. Make yourself as comfortable as you want. I'll wake you up when we get home.

"Why are you so... nice to me?" He asks, yawning in the middle of his sentence. Giselle spares him a short glance.

"You don't need to know. Sleep"

"One more question. Will I not see you again after this? He said we need time away from each other"

He hadn't seen her in almost seven years and now, he needed to let her go again. He was most unwilling. Giselle read him like an open book, sighing.

"Fine, I'll compromise. We can see each other once every week in a neutral location. That good enough for you?"

Good enough?! It was better than imagined. He thought he might have had to say goodbye after the one month was finished but he didn't expect such a large compromise.

"It's better than I expected. Thank you"

"You're weird"

"I'm just simply willing to do anything to be with you"

With that, Adam closed his eyes and slept. Giselle glanced at him and began to laugh. It was first out of amusement but she lost control and it turned to one that could bring shivers down one's spine.

Giselle's condition was a bit obvious if anyone was willing to look closer. She had Anti-Social Personality Disorder (ASPD). She had been showing signs from an early age and had been Dr. Monroe's patient ever since she was 15. To understand herself and others better, she chose to study psychology.

Only her family, her doctor, and one friend knew of her condition. Even Matthew didn't know. Everyone else thought her attitude was due to extreme awkwardness.

"You're such a foolish boy, Adam. See, you're already giving me the urge to hurt you"

They stopped at a red light and Giselle's eyes wandered to Adam's pale neck. She stretched her right hand and stroked it a few times.

"Pretty" she commented with an intoxicated smile. The light reflecting on her face at that moment made her look like a haunting beauty. The red light changed to green and she drove away like nothing happened.

After leaving the red light, she noticed they were being tailed. At first, she thought it was Adam's guards so she left them alone. However, as time went on, she noticed something strange.

First, the number of cars had increased. Second, they hadn't tried to make any contact and they were trying to flank her. So she made a decision in a split second and zoomed forward. Her intuition was confrirmed when they chased after her immediately.

Adam was still sleeping comfortably beside her. She snorted and shifted gears, taking the car faster. At the same time, she picked up his phone and tried calling his secretary since he was on speed dial. It rang for a few minutes before he picked up.

"Mr. Denver?"

"I took him to a clinic and he's asleep right now due to fatigue. I have a pressing situation"

"You must be Miss Cheadle. What is the situation?"

"I am being pursued by three black vans on District K's highway. They look suspicious and I don't think I can lose them soon. I was going to call the police but I understand that Adam is involved in something shady so I decided to call you first. Do something or in five minutes, I will call the police"

"Thank you for contacting me first. The head of security was fortunately with me right now and they are deploying as we speak. They should get to your location in thirty minutes. Can you drive towards Mr. Denver's mansion and hang on till then?"

"I'll try my best. You guys better pay for my fines"

"We have connections to the mayor. There would be no need for fines"

"That means I can go at a high speed, right?"

"Knock yourself out, ma'am"

The other man hung up and Giselle picked up the pace. Adam's secretary made a call to the mayor to explain the situation who in turn informed the police. They helped in slowing the pursuers and helping Giselle get away.

When she thought she was in the clear, a loud gunshot sound rang out behind her and hit the rear glass of one of the surrounding police cars was shattered. Fortunately, the police car was quick to respond and no one was hurt.

Giselle cursed and pushed the car speed to the max while trying to avoid stray bullets. At long last, the reinforcements arrived in form of four black Benz cars similar to the one she was driving. Adam's phone rang and she picked it up.

"Hello Ma'am, I'm Jellal, Mr. Denver's head of security. We're going to create a path of escape for you while acting as a diversion. I'm going to send a path to your GPS and I want you to use that path to get both yourself and the boss to safety. We'll be counting on you"

"And we as well"

The call dropped and the GPS glitched. The path she was taking changed and an unfamiliar route appeared to her. She grits her teeth before teetering the car off the track she was supposed to take.
