Milani, the White Myna of Respera, will do whatever it takes to protect her people, even if it means plunging her knife into the heart of King Seshil, who she once loved.

“A deal?”
She nodded her head, looking at him carefully.
“I will birth you an heir. I only ask for the right to defend myself and my people, if any time comes that harm should befall them.”
Seshil stared at her, and then slowly smirked.
“That isn’t a deal of equal exchange. After all,” his eyes glittered, “as your King and husband, I already have a right to your body and womb.”
He walked to her slowly, like a tiger stalking his prey, making her shiver as flashes of her dream overlapped with his figure. He whispered, softly but clearly, “You are already mine. You’re not giving yourself to me, I have already taken you as mine. Not a part of you doesn’t belong to me. From your hair to your toes, I own you. There shall be no deal between us.”
Her hope was dashed. But before her disappointment and fear of the future could fully take over her, he wrapped his hand around her waist and kissed her.
