Chapter 1Chapter 1: Transmigration

Liu Xin began contemplating his life as he looked at his reflection in the water of the pond. He had long black hair and an average, gentle face. He looked ordinary, nothing worth mentioning. His clothes were tattered and soiled by blood, and his messy hair swayed with the wind. The cold breeze reminded him that this was reality, not a dream.

"What happened?" He was in shock. "I don't remember dying, so why did I transmigrate?" Liu Xin thought as he pondered over it. He had bought a new computer with his hard-earned money, and he was excited to use it. When he was carrying the CPU to his room, he slipped and fell, and the CPU hit his face. The next thing he knew, he was staring at the blue sky while lying on the green grass.

"Can one really die like that?" Liu Xin was speechless as he remembered his past. He had not fallen on anything hard; it was on a soft carpet, and even the CPU wasn't strong enough to cause fatal damage.

Shaking his head, he looked at the pond and drank the water, trying to soothe his bitter heart. "I bought the computer with all my savings over the years, but I didn't even get to play games, let alone use it."

He sighed and closed his eyes, trying to regain his enthusiasm. "Anyway, since I have transmigrated, my worries about my previous life have ended. No more work and waking up early. Being positive is fundamental to living a happy life."

Suddenly, unfamiliar memories flooded in. Taking a deep breath, Liu Xin again contemplated his life. The previous owner of the body shared the same name as him. He was an outer sect disciple of a small sect, Quanzhen Sect. When he was searching for herbs, he accidentally stumbled upon a waterfall where he unintentionally saw a fairy bathing. The moment she saw him, he was knocked out. Later, without him even knowing, he was expelled from the sect. When he was planning to move to Azure Cloud City, a city for inherent cultivators, he didn't reach his destination. In the middle of the way, he was killed by his "fellow cultivators" and robbed. His corpse was left on the bank of the pond.

"This guy really is unlucky. He unintentionally offended someone big and was killed ruthlessly. He can't even get justice as he isn't a member of any sect. Justice is the toy of the strong, after all," Liu Xin sighed.

His lips curled up. "Fortunately, I have my cheat. Even after death, at least I can enjoy the computer." He smiled and looked at the holographic window that appeared before him.

[Cultivation PC]

[Motherboard: Liu Xin (Lower Qi Refining Level)]

[Processor: Divine Sense (1 GHz)]

[Operating System: Dantian {CultivateOS} (Version 1.0)]

[RAM: Perception (128 MB)]

[Storage: Sea of Consciousness (256 MB)]

[Graphic Card: Spiritual Perspective (Integrated 1.0)]

[Sound Card: Divine Hearing (Integrated 1.0)]

[Network card: Data Processing (Integrated 1.0)]

[Software: 3]

"So, I brought my computer with me. At least I get my money's worth," Liu Xin was happier knowing that his money didn't go to waste.

He first read the information on the screen, "So, I am only at a lower Qi Refining Level. A trash-level talent," he sighed. It was normal for a transmigrator to possess this spec. "Well, anyway, I paid more than a thousand dollars, and the spec of this PC isn't even worth a hundred."

Shaking his head, he looked at his storage.

[Storage: 200/256]

"I only have 56 MB left… Well, better than nothing," he grumbled. "Let's check what software is available."

[Softwares]

-Cultivation (1 MB)

-Alchemy (200 KB)

-General Knowledge (5 MB)

"What the heck? The information on alchemy is only 200 KB? There isn't even any knowledge on alchemy that's worth mentioning. Cultivation data is 1 MB… Hmm, I guess he doesn't even have much information on cultivation." He pondered for a while and remembered. "Oh, he only has two cultivation techniques, both with inferior understanding. One is Qi Breathing Technique, which he hasn't even understood the first stage properly. The second is Shadow Escape, which he has at least an understanding of the second stage." His disappointment reached its peak.

He rushed toward the city with his Shadow Escape technique. His speed increased, and he felt excitement. He really wanted to cultivate and become stronger.

After running for a whole day, and resting bit by bit, Liu Xin finally reached the Azure Cloud City.

He found two guards guarding the city gate. They scrutinized his body and chuckled at his pitiful condition. But they let Liu Xin enter the city without asking for any gate fee.

'Even if I am pitied and being laughed at, I managed to enter the city without paying any money,' he thought as he looked at his surroundings.

The hustling and bustling of people didn't surprise him much as he looked at the row of shops and vendors. Normal people along with cultivators walked around, while normal people only entered ordinary shops. Cultivators entered the shops selling cultivation techniques, pills, and so on.

Liu Xin, who is poor, can't even think of filling his stomach, let alone think of buying any stuff related to cultivation.

As he walked around, many people's gazes ran toward him, but Liu Xin didn't mind. He was used to getting these types of stares.

He looked at the cultivation stall and was shocked as a window popped up in front of him.

[Shadow Flame Ignition (2 MB)]

[Celestial Wind Dance (2.5 MB)]

[Dragonfire Breath Attack (1 MB)]

[Feather Foot Technique (3 MB)]

[Cloud Steps Technique (3 MB)]

[Water Flow Defense (2 MB)]

[Shadow Shroud Technique (3 MB)]

The list of windows covered his field of vision. He looked at the size and fell into deep thought.

'I can download… cultivation data? If so… then let's choose some technique carefully.' He examined the list and downloaded a technique.

[Downloading Dragonfire Breath Attack....]

[Downloaded!]

[Installing....]

[Installed Completely!]

...

Dragonfire Breath Attack, Cloud Steps Technique, Water Flow Defense, Feather Foot Technique, Shadow Shroud Technique, Shadow Flame Ignition, Spiritual Circle Barrier, Phoenix Slash, Thunderbolt Thrust, Spirit Blade Dance… Like that, he downloaded a horde of techniques.

With these techniques, 23 MB were used.

With each data downloaded, taking almost an hour, Liu Xin walked around the shop so as not to be too suspicious while the data was downloaded slowly.

As the data was downloaded, information filled his mind. The technique that he had only learned recently, he understood it completely.

Some techniques even had three stages, but he comprehended everything. He could use all the techniques effectively without even having to practice them. Not to mention, his computer scanned all the stores and provided him with a list of downloadable data. It was like a gaming store on a special occasion giving away all of the games for free. Maybe due to learning various techniques or getting too much enlightenment, energy filled his body, and his cultivation reached the peak of the first layer of Qi refining realm.

His stomach growled, but he had no money to afford food. There were cultivators around, or he would have simply stolen or robbed food. He wandered around the market and benefited greatly.

[Information on 1000 common to rare herbs (5 MB)]

[Beginner Alchemy: Everything You Need to Know about Alchemy (3 MB)]

[Elemental Alchemy Technique (4 MB)]

[Basic Array Information (2 MB)]

[Array Formation Technique (5 MB)]

[Beginner Array Technique (1 MB)]

He also obtained some books related to alchemy and array and used another 15 MB of space. As the data was finally downloaded, a new prompt appeared in his vision.

[New software detected.]

[Do you want to install Array?]

[Yes/No]

He clicked on "install" without hesitation.

[Installing…]

Not long after the installation was completed.

[Software]

-Cultivation (26 MB)

-Alchemy (7.2 MB)

-Array (6 MB)

-General Knowledge (12 MB)

The new software was installed in the system.

"Now, let's figure something out about my poverty." He exited the city and walked deep inside the forest in search of a beast.

Writing quality: atrocious. The mistakes are minor, but there are a *lot* of them, to the point that it’s hard to parse and get involved in the story. The author should at least run spellcheck and a pass through grammarly; it’s better than the nothing that he does before pasting his rough draft in. Update stability: 1/5. The story went on ”hiatus” before even hitting 40 chapters and his other story went on that same hiatus at only chapter 4. So I won’t harbor any hope of this one coming back anytime soon, either. I would rate this lower if I could, but the scale only goes down to 1. Story development: feels rushed, and the MC’s cheat is the cheatiest cheat that ever cheated. That makes it hard for anything but a bog standard wish fulfillment story to be written. But with the short chapters, that also makes the wish fulfillment … difficult, to say the least, as it doesn’t allow for proper buildup of practically anything. Character design: stale and cliche. There is nothing outstanding about any of the characters introduced other than their artwork, and even that is AI generated. That said, however, that the author even did that for his characters shows that he actually cares (or cared? I have a feeling this is a dropped project) enough to go that extra mile. So at least he tried. World background: practically nonexistent. Readers are given almost nothing to go on but overused tropes, and the short chapter length again bites the story in the butt here as there’s just no way to cram world building, plot, character development, and wish fulfillment into chapters this short. Overall: give this a pass. It really isn’t worth your, or my, time. I don’t regret having read it and I hope this review helps the author do better on his next story, but this one should just be taken out back behind the wood shed and … let’s say, “retired”.
