The moon and the abyss, what is the true darkness?

After training and playing with the water for a while longer, I stretched my body and left the room. I returned to the central area of the doors, leaving the water door behind so I could study the characteristics of this field of magic and spells further in the future.

After choosing the field of the first door, I thought about which other door I would choose. I chose water magic first because it is directly related to my race and its combat capabilities. Additionally, this type of element is relatively neutral but has good defensive and supportive capabilities, making it a central base to start combat. Of course, it also has offensive capabilities, but they are considerably reduced compared to some other elements.

After having chosen the element, I looked at the other doors, keeping in mind that the door I chose has a certain neutral and supportive bias. The other element chosen would preferably have a greater potential for offensive magic. I looked at the other doors: darkness, fire, wind, earth, air, and light. Seeing all of them, I frowned in doubt. First, I discarded the light and earth elements since, similar to water, they have greater potential for support and defense rather than offensive capability.

So the three remaining elements are wind, fire, and darkness. Wind is a good element as it combines with the aerial aspect of my other half-race and could give me interesting bonuses. However, wind is not as offensive as fire and darkness, unless I can use the upper part of the wind element, which is lightning/thunder.

I paused for a moment and thought about which path would be interesting to follow... there was also the issue of elemental affinity. Water is the elemental weakness of fire, and possibly in the mission of the fire door, the use of the water element could help in some way... which makes the fire element not necessarily the best option to choose initially.

I closed my eyes and rationalized for a few minutes. In the end, I opened my eyes with the choice made and stood in front of the specific door. Looking at it, the darkness door had beautiful and handsome snakes and emitted an aura of darkness and discretion, seeming to emit a power that absorbed everything and anything. The reason I chose it is that I feel darkness would be a complicated element; it also has interesting tendencies in addition to good offensive capabilities. Although more specific offensives and not so focused on area damage, at least as it is in games in general, it usually has good trap and stealth aspects as well as individual offensives.

Touching the door, a notification appeared similar to the other one.

<You have selected the elemental magic door of darkness. Given your privilege, you can unlock it at this moment. Do want to it?>

"Yes."

As soon as I spoke, just like with the water door, numerous notifications appeared in front of me, accompanied by a high amount of dark energy like the night and the abyss covering my body, transforming my mana and my magic circle again. And again, my mana was transformed. As the darkness stopped being absorbed by my body, I decided to read the notifications.

<The door of darkness magic has been opened>

<Dark Mage Skill Tree (modified) has been infused into your current>

<Your title Heir of the Primordial Mage has been updated. 50% resistance to darkness attacks and magic added as a new option>

<An extra effect has been added: slight increase in the individual's stealth>

And when I opened my eyes, deep in my iris, a golden color of mana, a bluish color with water bubbles on one side, and shadows of darkness could also be seen. When I blinked again, my eyes returned to their usual color.

In front of me, a completely dark environment could be seen, darker than the abyss and shadows. The floor was made of a material like basalt, and ruins of black and gray stones could be seen on one side. In these ruins, there were some strange books because they were carved in stones instead of paper as usual. I walked through the ruins and picked up a stone book that introduced dark magic. After reading a few pages, I picked up another one that was also quite interesting because it talked about a dual aspect of dark magic.

The book was called: "The Sides of Darkness: Between the Darkness of the Moon and Night and the Darkness of the Depths of the Abyss of the End of Existence."

The book seemed to be just the first volume, but it introduced a peculiarity that darkness had between the darkness that was vital, involving the gods of night and moon, and the darkness that symbolized the end of the world and destruction—the darkness of the Abyss. I read it a bit but then got tired and headed towards a part of the inner region of the door. Like the water door, there were also specific test guardians here.

Before summoning the test for my dark magic, I opened the respective Skill Tree and saw the magic I had available to unlock. As with the others, there were not many Skills available for me to unlock at the moment, so I decided to unlock the Skills I could, which were two, just like the other one.

<You have unlocked the Dark Ball Skill>

<You have unlocked the Dark Trap Skill>

—-

Skill: Dark Ball

Effect:

-A dark ball with offensive and stealth capabilities is created.

Description: A dense sphere of darkness is created and can be used as an offensive means. It has a descriptive and silent capacity and is not easily detected by the enemy. One reason dark mages are feared is the difficulty in finding them and their stealth attacks, which sometimes appear as assassin attacks.

Skill: Dark Trap

Rank: Class

Type: Active

Cost: MP

Effect: A trap made of dark magic is created in a selected area, capable of trapping the enemy and causing damage with dark spikes and curses.

Cast time: 5 s per trap. (variable)

Description: Using dark magic, an intricate magic circle is set up with the ability to trap enemies, cause damage, and even small curse effects. The potential number of traps and other aspects depend on the mage's potential and mastery of the darkness element.

Reading the effects of the Skills, I found them relatively interesting. The first one seems to be the same as the water magic, only changing the element, while the second one has interesting potential. However, as always, there is no clear description of the specifics regarding the spell, and I will only be able to learn by testing in the future and deepening my knowledge in magic and elements.

"Activate training room"

As soon as I finished speaking, shadows moved from the ground, and in front of me, some sort of monster made of pure darkness was formed, seemingly unable to move.

Some appeared like snakes, others like a type of lizard.

I decided to test the different Skill compared to the water one first.

For the test, I planned to do it in two parts.

My wand cast dark MP, and silently, more quickly, formed a magic circle beneath the monster.

And when it was fully formed, shadows like ropes tied the snake and sank into its "flesh."

I could also see the fake eyes of the test dummy turning black as if there was a blinding effect or something similar.

Seeing this, I was satisfied. I observed for a while and saw that a few seconds later, the shadows that enveloped the snake disappeared.

Probably the amount of time it remains trapped depends on the amount of magic I invest, the power level, and the enemy's resistance...

While thinking, I cast the magic again, and another magic circle was formed, but this time on the ground where there were no enemies.

When the circle finished, I received notifications.

<You 10 planted the dark trap magic; it will last up to minutes if not activated. After that, maintaining for longer require adding MP>

I was quite satisfied. I could also feel a link with the spell, although I had no idea how far I could influence and feel the same link... the idea of the trap also made me think about other types of magic and possibilities regarding this type of spell.

Regardless of my ideas, I manipulated my wand again and created water and darkness magic above me.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. After the darkness ball appeared, when the water ball was about to appear, it exploded, and the spell malfunctioned.

Seeing this, I furrowed my brow completely... I managed to create two water spheres, but it seems that maintaining two different elements at the same time is a bit complicated... despite...

I thought and looked at the trap that was clearly still active.

"Maybe it's the presence of the magic circle... could it help?" I murmured and decided to test a bit more for a few minutes, and when I finished, I would leave this space and return to the starting village.

During this time, Levi continued flying around me, observing and sometimes making comments. His knowledge seemed partially sealed, but he still had good insights about magic and spells.
