Dugaan tersebut didasarkan pada isi Prasasti Syiwagrha yang ditemukan di sekitar Prambanan dan saat ini tersimpan di Museum Nasional di Jakarta. Prasasti berangka tahun 778 Saka (856 M) ini ditulis pada masa pemerintahan Rakai Pikatan.
