Jason McCall and his family move to Phoenix, Arizona from New York after his father's death. He joins Hidden Valley College and meets Casey Harry, the Mayor's only daughter. They start hanging out. The school goes on a field trip to an ancient historical library. Jason finds a book which miraculously makes him see ones future/past by the touch of hands. He enforms Casey, and they use this gift to help know the cause of his father's death, later fell in love with Casey.
I carried the last luggage box from my father's white pick up truck packed in front of our new duplex house driveway. This was our first day at Phoenix, Arizona, well second time after we came for camping in my senior year in High school. We had moved from New York that morning. I cursed the heavy weight of the luggage box as I walked slowly towards the front door.
"Did we have to leave New York this early?" I asked with a relief after I dropped the box on the floor the second after I closed the door behind me. We left New York three minutes to three in the morning. My sister, Paula McCall, and I literally slept the whole drive to Phoenix.
"It's my first day of work, I don't want to make a bad impression. Besides, you have the whole day to pack for tomorrow. You going to college, " my mom, Mrs Alaska McCall explained as she walked to the kitchen giving me a glance and a fake smile.
"College?" I asked startled, "I thought I wasn't going to apply till next week."
"I already did that for you, "she said faking a smile again as she moved towards the coffee table caring bacon and eggs in one plate on one side and the other a glass of orange juice." Breakfast?" asked giving a glance. I shook my head to answer her question. I hated it when my mom made decision for me, especially concerning school.
I was infuriated with my mom's decision of applying a college for me. What if the college isn't my type, what if what I want to pursue is not on the application, what if the school is filled with weirdos. "What course did you pick?" I asked to clear my curiosity in a defeat like voice.
" English and literature," she said concentrating on her breakfast, "that's what you always wanted since the beginning of your last year in High school, "she continued after noticing my frown face.
I had been dreaming of doing computer science since middle school but the love of English and literature changed my mind right after I joined high school.
"I still want to study computer science," I defended keeping my gaze down when her eyes met mine. Keeping eye contact with her would make me lose the fight. Assertive was my mom's middle name, she never lost a battle with either of our family members, making my sister and I feel like she was the head of the family. She made almost all decisions in the house, came almost all of our parents meetings in school and did shopping all times.
"I'm sorry that you have to do English and literature. School is tomorrow remember, "she said walking towards the kitchen holding dishes.
My mom was one of the best doctors in New York being the Director in charge of the New York Surgical Hospital. She immediately resigned after my dad's funeral. Pascal McCall, died in a car accident a night from work according to what George Miller, the Director of Fly In Seconds, said. Dad worked as the Transportation Manager at Fly In Seconds company in New York, that owned the cable cars all over states.
I knew the Director's words were false immediately they left his mouth. I knew my dad well enough and I knew he never used his car to or from work. He used the New York subway all his working days just to escape traffic.
"My bedroom upstairs is amazing," my younger sister yelled happily walking downstairs panting. " I love Phoenix already, cool clear air, quite place, no weirdos. It's perfect, "she explained with a relief and exhaled noisily the moment she reached the leaving room. My sister was the moody type of girl, she being in high school. She literally wanted everything she asked for and could do everything to get it. She has the same personalities as mum's. Mum wouldn't give everything she asked now that she's the head, making them argue all the time which I liked to watch.
"I'm glad you enjoying," I said sarcastically, resting my body on the couch." Where is mom going to work anyway, I thought she resigned," I asked.
"She didn't tell you?"acted surprised like always," I thought you were the " know all" type of girl," she said giggling, making a quote sing in the air using her fingers. I made a frown and gave her a sharp gaze. I did this all the time she tried teasing me, and it did work.
"Ok I will tell you," rolled her eyes and sat next to me, "she applied for a job as a nurse at one of the high schools in town. Which I'm gonna join tomorrow, "she broke the news as she stared at her finger nails.
" A nurse? "
" You heard me.."
"I ordered lunch for you guys. Arrange the house and pack for school tomorrow before I come home from work, "she interrupted and left the house.
" We going to starve, " I said with a laugh after I heard the car pull of the parking lot.
