Chapter 40. Recruiting an Alpha

“We need to talk,” I told Loki, rising from my chair.

“I thought you didn’t want to talk,” he said, pointing out I’d denied him the chance to explain himself.

“Things change,” I muttered.

“Fine, my office,” he said nodding down the hall, his lips a tight, thin line.

“Thanks for the drink, Persephone,” I said. She gave a soft wave as I followed Loki to his office. When we were inside, he shut the door. I shifted my weight from one foot to the other as I heard the lock click.

“Gen, I want to…”

I whipped around and held up and hand. Loki closed his mouth. “I know you have something to say but I’m not ready to hear it,” I said.

Loki sighed, his shoulders sagging slightly. His eyes hardened and he composed himself quickly. Loki strode around his desk and sat down. He leaned back casually, bringing his feet to rest on his desk, crossing his ankles.

“Fine, then talk,” he demanded, resting his hands on his stomach, interlacing his fingers.
