1986

The most damning evidence against the film was promotional materials and even the opening credits of certain copies of Nosferatu that clearly stated that the film was an adaptation of Stoker’s novel. Unable to ignore such evidence, a German court found Nosferatu to be an unlicensed derivative work of Dracula and ordered that every copy of the film be destroyed. While this should have marked the end of the film’s legacy, one copy avoided destruction and resurfaced in the United States, where it was released in 1929. Under the U.S. copyright law of the time, in order for works by a foreign author to enjoy copyright protection in the United States, the author’s country of citizenship must have had a copyright proclamation or agreement with the United States. Stoker was a British citizen, and under the Chace Act, President Harrison had extended copyright to works by British citizens in 1891, thus making Stoker’s work eligible for United States copyright protection. However, United States copyright law also required two copies of the work be deposited with the U.S. Copyright Office. Stoker had never satisfied this deposit requirement, and therefore Dracula was part of the public domain in the United States. Stoker’s estate was thus unable to take any legal action against Nosferatu in the United States, and the film gained a second lease on life, developing into a definitive piece of vampire pop culture. These three tales highlight just a few of the interactions between copyright law and the horror genre. Such tales should serve as reminder to always double check copyright laws to avoid the scare of an unexpected law lurking in the shadows.

Reckless Youth

- Before starting I want to say this. That this story is a mix of ideas I had that came to life with inspiration from a few stories I loved. While some of it comes from my actual experiences when I was a teen. It won’t be messy because I actually have a good idea where I want to go with the story, I’m not the best writer but I wanted to try my hand at my own novel. Please enjoy. A boy finds himself brought back from the dead in a way he never expected, trying to adjust to his new life is not as simple as he thought it would be, he comes to find this out sooner then he hoped. With violence at every turn and a strange love triangle going on. This story follows him while he try’s to manage his chaotic life packed full of violence, gangs, crazy girls, small family and the past that threatens to consume him. The story does have a system but it’s more like a driving point to give the story direction, it won’t be annoying or all in your face. Some key points being. It has drama, it has mushy love, mature topics that many might not want to talk about so I’m warning you. There is also a lot of slice of life and action I think comes together well. The Mc is dropped into the middle of a new life, so if the relationships he has look fast that will be explained. The Mc does have more then one girl, yet it’s nothing over board and if you read you’ll see why it’s not just as simple as him having girlfriends. There is a little revenge, betrayal and i don’t know if it’s NTR? If it was before he knows anything but i guess. I’m just letting you know now. I’m not good at this so give it a try if you want, if not that’s fine to I just wanted to try my hand at writing something that was my own.

He was a selfish tyrant walking freely in the world he saw as hell.
