Chapter 14

Connor

I stared down at the plaque of stone that bore my father’s name. Today was his funeral and the whole pack was tense by the sudden death of their former Alpha.

Turning around, I see the retreating backs of the pack members who attended the memorial. My mother was not present. The day after my father was killed, I woke up to find Violet and my mother gone. Alpha Nathaniel informed me they went to South Forest to check on the new Alpha and to investigate the murder there.

I knew it was difficult for my mother to stay in Dark Mountains knowing that her mate is dead. I would never want to experience that kind of pain. I looked at Tara who was standing beside me. She was holding a white lily, twirling it in her hands.

Everyone had already left the cemetery. Only me and Tara were left. She stepped forward and placed the flower on top of the gravestone. I sighed. It was just another symbol of finally saying goodbye.

“Let’s go,” I said and took her hand in mine.
