Chapter 7: Truth or dare

Leonor called her brother to come and pick us up, and after a while, he came.

"Get in." Leonor says to me, holding the door of the car for me.

"Hey psycho." Mason greets me.

i understand that everyone has their own way to greet people, and I think this is his way...rude.

"Hey Mason." He turns his head backwards - to my direction - and smirks.

"You still remember my name psycho?!" I nod; Leonor talks about him all the time.

"To home, Bro." Leonor taps his shoulder.

He rolls his eyes and nods, I can see his eyes through the mirror of the car.

His eyes are gorgeo- no, no, I don't like him. This isn't allowed for me, I can't fall in love.

I keep sitting in silent, hoping that we reach Leonor's home fast, I feel anxious every time I look in Mason's eyes. So I keep trying to look away.

I realize I have been playing with my fingers for a while, and my leg keeps vibrating. It's normal.

After thirty minutes in the car with lots of creepy songs and sad ones, we are finally in front of Leonor's home. It is huge and has a beautiful garden surrounding it.

"Welcome, Adelina. You will looove the place here." It takes her so long to say 'love'. I nod and smile.

"I am going to my room." Mason says, but Leonor holds his hand.

"Come and play with us. We are playing truth or dare." He glares at her, and she moves her sight to me.

"Are you okay with it, Adell?" I nod. I don't mind if he plays with us, but he must play without his attitude.

Leonor takes my hand and gets me to her room-running-while her brother is still walking behind us.

"Hurry Jerk." I giggles. I'm not gonna lie, I like this name it really suits him.

"Okay, we are all here. Let's start." Leonor declares while grabbing a plastic bottle.

"Can we make it all truths?" I tilts my head. I don't know any kind of dares.

"Yes, of course, unless if we find a good one."

Mason is so silent..... he is not speechless, I have heard his voice before. I think he just doesn't like talking to people.

Leonor flips the bottle, and it's his turn to ask me.

"What is your name, psycho?" His face is emotionless. Really, he doesn't know my name?

Now I know why he calls me psycho.

"What? Really!! You don't know my name?!"

"How am I supposed to know it?" His voice raises an octave.

I notice Leonor trying hard not to laugh. Actually, he has got a point, but I am pretty sure that my brothers told him my name..... ah, he just doesn't listen.

"Adelina. My name is Adelina."

"I prefer psycho." He says while shrugging.

"No, stop calling me this, now you know my name. Stop it." He shooks his head.

I want to slap him. He is really annoying.

"You are annoying."

"Do i seem to care?!!"

Oh God, he keeps getting on my nerves. I stand up and on my way to hit him. Not too hard, but just to teach him how to treat me.

And he stands up, too. I raise my finger at him.

"Stop treating me like this, I am warning you."

"Never raise your finger at me." He holds my finger and placed my hand to my side.

"You-----" I raise my hand in an attempt to slap him, but he dodges it with his hand. He grips my wrist firmly.

"What the hell do you-----"

"Hey, hey." Leonor interrupts him. His fist is still gripping my wrist. It hurts.

"Leave my wrist." My voice cracks in pain. I was trying so hard to hold it.

His brown eyes looked at mine; which was wild cause of the pain. And his facial expressions soften.

He let go of my wrist, which has a red grip mark on it now. When I raised my head and looked at him, his face turns as cold and rough as it was.

"I think the game didn't go according to the plan." Leonor's tone becomes sad.

"No, no, let's continue playing." I don't want to ruin her happiness. She really wanted to play this game with her brother, and I think I am the bond that connects them together. To be specific, the excuse that bonds them together.... I don't know why but she told me this before.

We sit down and begin to play. Leonor has an unhappy expression, and Mason.... I don't know. He is always like this; mad, cold, annoyed.

********

A few hours had passed. Me and Leo had fun, but her brother kept complaining like a baby; he wanted to leave the game, but Leonor made sure that he couldn't.

"What time is it now, Leo?" I ask Leonor. I don't want to get punished by my father for being late.

She shows me her phone as mine was charging.

"Oh my God." I shout. "I am late."

I grab my stuff and on my way to leave.

"Hey, hey, it's okay, the principal won't bother you. Mason can fix it."

"You don't understand it's not the principal. It's my father."

"Wait, let me drive you."

I get into her car, and she starts to drive.

She already knows my address but she never saw my house. Not yet.

"What's wrong with your father?" She questions.

"He is strict and won't like it if I get late." I answer, not giving much information. She nods.

"Can I tell you something?"

"Yes, of course." I reply

"You know that me and my brother aren't....you know too close." I nod. "He doesn't love me because I am a little version of my father; the same attitude, the same eyes, he doesn't like dad. To be fair, dad never liked Mason. He always treated him like Mother used to treat me." She sighs. "Mother always treated Mason like he is all her world and left everything to him, but me... She treated me like I was nothing. Dad noticed it, so he tried to give me the love that mother didn't give me, which made Mason be a rebel." She finishes.

I don't know if she is sad that her mother didn't love her or her brother isn't close to her.

I grab her to my embrace and give her slight pats on her hand while she is still driving with the other hand.

"All I want is for him to lo-love me." Her voice begins to break. "I don't know if this is his nature; being cold. Or he does this just with me." I look in her eyes, and they are red.

"I don't know him well but, I think that it is him..... he treats everyone like this, not only you." I give her a smile.

I have never thought that Leonor would be keeping all these things inside her or that she would even....cry. She always seems strong and brave, I think I am not the only one with issues.

"You think so." Her voice becomes softer. I give her a little nod with a soft smile.

"Mmmm.....can I tell you something?" I speak, after awhile from silence. She nods.

"But promise me you won't tell anyone."

"I promise." I breathe a sigh of relief.

"Well, father has guns in his office, and when I was young, he used to threaten me with it; he still does. Sometimes I think that he may be the reason for my mother's illness.....but-but" I begin to sob. "but I know he is not the reason for her death." I finish my words, and my eyes are filled with tears now. I guess at the beginning I said that to reassure her but now I need reassurance.

She pats my back and hugs me. We both need hugs.

We reach home, and Leonor insists on coming with me in. I can't tell her no, I wish I could; I don't want her to see Father if he is in there.

I didn't want to knock on the door, and I think Leonor noticed it, so she did it.

Unfortunately, Father is there, and he is the one who opens the door.

I can tell from his face that he is furious. This ain't good.

"Adelina!!" He shouts and then calms down after noticing Leo. At least he tries to respect me in front of others.

"Oh shit." I murmur and made sure no one could hear me.

I totally forgot that I am not allowed to have friends; we have been friends for about five months, and now I am showing her to my father. I am surely gonna get hit.

"Okay, I am leaving." Leo says and begins to walk away. I want to begg her not to leave me alone.

"Who is this, trash." Father asks me after making sure that Leonor has left. He locks the door behind us.
