Chapter 32: Scratching an Itch

In the center of the maze there is a small pedestal with a series of levers on it. It’s basically a tic-tac-toe board, and you have to pull six levers without ever winning the game. If you complete one line of three in a row, it opens up the large sarcophagus and unleashes the monster within it. If you pull six levers without that happening, the door to the second half of the maze opens.

“Are you sure you want the fight?” I ask, looking at the puzzle. “It won’t be easy, and I’m not sure what level it’s meant for. It could be something way beyond any of us.”

“So we can either fight something that might kill us, or we can run away?” Daniel asks. “I know what my vote is for.”

“The monster will come from the tomb right here, yes?” Petra asks. She already has her sword ready. “If we know that it’s coming, and when it’s coming, we have a rather large advantage, yes? Regardless of level difference.”
