Fred was growing increasingly trusting of Edward because of his willingness to share details about the drugs but he also couldn't help but feel he was hiding something from him.
He couldn't wrap his fingers around it but there was something off about Edward.
Both boys went their way as they had concluded for the day so Edward was free to go where he needed to go. Damon had set him up in a nearby motel that wasn't anything too fancy but enough for him to get by.
Edward had no work or source of income so he was struggling to make ends meet and his lack of skills made everything even more difficult.
The moment he went to the motel, he fell on his bed with a loud thumping sound.
"Fuck, I hate this…" Edward muttered to himself as his brave face broke.
Tears were dripping from his eyes and he didn't know why he felt sad or why he was crying.
He just felt empty, he couldn't help but think about the void that Michael left in his heart.
He tried to distract himself and keep a happy face but at the end of the day, he couldn't help but feel that hopelessness.
Edward now had to revisit his past to see Papa, a man he absolutely despised but he knew it was something he must do or Mikky might be caught in the crossfire.
This was a lot bigger than he had originally anticipated because it involved killing of normal people.
He also knew how important this case was to Gen Z so he had no time to slack and be stuck in his feelings.
Edward slapped himself across the face before springing to his feet.
He looked determined, he knew that he could bring an end to Papa but he also wondered what would happen to the kids under his care.
Would theg simply return to the streets?
Edward left his phone to charge in the motel before leaving for the place he once called home.
It took a little over an hour but Edward arrived in the familiar slums of Ohio.
Edward felt something was different here, there were a lot more people on the road that he remembered.
Either passed out or going through withdrawals because they wanted more.
Edward knew there was nothing he could do for them and he focused on his primary objective, which was Papa.
He reached where Papa resided shortly but the place was guarded, Papa's status had risen but so did his enemies hence why the place was heavily guarded.
"Who the fuck are you?" A random man asked, he had a strap on so Edward was aware that he had a gun.
Edward might have powers but it didn't protect him from bullets, he would be very dead if a bullet tore through him so the best thing he could do now was not to agitate them.
"I'm Edward, I'm looking for Papa," Edward said and the man looked disgusted that he even had the audacity to say his name but before he could utter another word, an authoritative voice echoed from behind the day.
"Let him in," The man's body immediately tightened as the door was opened to welcome Edward.
Edward saw his former employer and he was convinced that whatever God he was serving was definitely giving him his blessings in abundance.
Edward was surprised that Papa wore way more expensive clothes and jewellery in such a short timeframe.
"Edward…" Papa called out. Edward hated that he knew him but he also knew that if they found Papa then his past risked coming into light.
"Papa, I can see you are doing well for yourself," Edward complimented him, only people that Papa deemed worthy could call him by that title. "His children…" To say.
"I knew you would come back but I never knew it would be under such circumstances…" Papa said, dragging the smoke from the Cuban cigar in his mouth before puffing it out.
He was speaking like he knew why Edward was here but that should be impossible considering there was no way in hell he could have picked up on this.
"What are you talking about?" Edward questioned, he wasn't going to spill the beans if he didn't have to.
"Hahaha! I have eyes and ears everywhere Edward… But rest assured, I do not care about that." Papa said.
Edward could feel himself heaving a sigh of relief because the fact that Papa's wealth had grown massively over the past few weeks told him that he had a hand in all of this.
"Where is Mikky?" Edward asked but Papa chuckled the moment he heard the name.
"Mikky? I have to say, he filled the hole your absence left pretty well…" Papa said and Edward was confused as to what he was talking about.
"What do you mean?" Edward asked.
"Edward, you left him behind. Who do you think took over your dirty work?" Papa asked and Edward felt his heart drop.
Mikky took on his responsibility and now Edward was beginning to understand why Mikky was on that list.
He wasn't just a distributor anymore, he was a hitman for Papa.
"You bastard!" Edward lost his cool but this was what Papa wanted to see.
"You're focused on the wrong thing Edward…." Papa muttered.
"Is this him?" A voice said behind Edward, Edward turned his head backwards to see a bald man with a rather obscene tattoo on his forehead.
He looked dangerous and Edward knew he had been set up, Papa knew the young man would come to him seeking answers and he also knew who these people worked for.
He was a very powerful man that everyone wanted to be under his grace and mercy. He was the man you would want to be on his good side by all means possible.
Edward got himself standing right in front of Astro but he had the advantage because none of them knew he had powers and such a rare power as well.
The power to nullify other abilities and luckily for Edward, it was only Astro that was here.
Papa confirmed that Edward was the person but before Edward could even utter a word.
A powerful punch sent him crashing through the wooden building but Papa didn't like this not because Edward was being beaten but because his house was being destroyed in the process.
"You have done well, I will make sure he hears of what you have done…" Astro said and Papa's face lit up as he walked towards Edward.
Edward was important because now they could learn what the FBI might have on them but before leaving the house through the hole he just created, he said.
"The Razor Riddler will be very pleased."
They, however, weren't alone as someone seemed to be watching them in the distance.
