Dark and Light (Realm Escape)
Our family has always been bound by a very simple tradition. Well, calling it a tradition sort of implies that we actually had a choice. None of us did.
Each generation is the same. Exactly 2 children born to the oldest child of the previous generation, to inherit the family bloodline. Those born from the second born child are basically just normal children and kept separate from their cousins. It’s really quite a cold treatment. But, there is a reason for it, of course. The children of the first born child are always born with the same powers that the previous generation had, and quickly lost.
My family has always had the responsibility of stopping dark creatures from entering and polluting the human world. The first born child is born with the power known as “God’s Sight”. They can see the gateways, and they can see the details of every single thing in the world with just a simple glance. The second born has the powers of creation and destruction, called “God’s Hand”. They create the weapons needed to defeat the creatures, and they can create and destroy just about anything. It may not be honorable, but that power has more or less kept my family in some level of money, since the God’s Hand can make things for selling.
However, all good things are limited. In order to make sure that none in my family abuse their powers, they have an expiration date. Those with powers reach their true strength by around the age 15, then quickly lose their powers. No one in my family has ever held onto their powers past the age of 17. It’s why my family has always been known for reproducing young. But if we reproduce too young, then we automatically lose our powers. There can’t be more than one God’s Sight or God’s Hand. The very existence of a second one of either would be an omen of bad things to come.
So, when I was born, things began to change quickly.
Never, in all the generations of my family, had someone like me been born. A third born child. A child with both God’s Sight and God’s Hand powers. And, while my parents loved me, even though I wasn’t supposed to exist, my sisters loathed me. And soon I would truly know why.
