On the hospital bed in the hospital corridor, Ryan had a bandage on his head and was receiving an IV drip, and the blood on his face and body had not yet been wiped off.
Olivia, his mother-in-law, sat nearby, her face twisted in fury. Her sharp voice echoed in the hall. "Are you blind? How dare you provoke someone like that?"
She leaned forward, her finger pointed accusingly.
"You're just a measly security guard! Stopping the boss's car? Have you lost your mind? Do you have a death wish?"
Ryan lowered his head and let her scold him, thinking about how he got into the hospital.
It had been an ordinary day at the Tiger Real Estate office. Ryan, stationed at the main gate, noticed a red Ferrari idling at the entrance. The driver leaned on the horn impatiently, the sound blaring like an alarm.
He hurried over and tried to maintain his composure. "Miss, this is the employee parking lot. Visitors need to use the underground garage."
The tinted window rolled down, revealing a young woman with wavy hair, wearing oversized sunglasses. Her expression was a cocktail of annoyance and arrogance. She pushed her sunglasses up to her forehead, revealing cold, sharp eyes.
"Who are you calling 'Miss,' you lowly security guard?" she snapped, tossing the sunglasses at him. "And who said I'm a visitor?"
"I meant no offense,"
he explained, gesturing at the gate. "The barrier only opens for registered license plates. It's a company policy."
"You old bastard, you didn't even register my license plate, did you?"
Before Ryan could reply, she slammed her foot on the accelerator.
The Ferrari surged forward, crashing through the barrier. The metal rail snapped like a twig, a chunk of it striking Ryan squarely on the head. The world went dark.
When he opened his eyes again, he was here—battered, bruised, and humiliated.
When his wife Lily came back after paying the fees, she saw her mother was angry and said cautiously, "Mom, this wasn't Ryan's fault. He was just doing his job."
"Not his fault?" Olivia shot her daughter a withering glare, her voice rising.
"If it's not his fault, whose is it? Two days at this job, and he's already offended the boss's wife! Do you have any idea what kind of trouble he's brought to this family?"
Her voice cracked as she slapped the edge of the bed. "I warned you not to marry this useless man! Look where we are now!"
--
Olivia, at forty, was in her prime—confident and radiating charm. Her curly hair was styled elegantly, framing a face with faint crow's feet that did little to diminish her beauty.
With delicate features and light makeup, she still carried the allure of her youth, a fact she was clearly aware of.
When she was young, she was a famous beauty in her family. She was tall and now she is slightly plump. She is not fat but mature, sexy and charming, which makes people feel amazing.
She has breasts and buttocks, and a perfect body with curves. She is wearing a low-cut top, and her cleavage and snow-white breast flesh sway when she moves. Even a bra cannot hide the shock.
Ryan couldn't help but take a peek and swallowed his saliva subconsciously. His mother-in-law's figure could be described as a bombshell. Even if she was dressed conservatively, you could still see her breasts were about to burst out.
His wife Lily did not notice her husband's restless look, and was so frightened by her mother's yelling that she lowered her head and remained silent.
Olivia's marriage is not going well. She has a very bad temper, like a complete tigress. She is also sarcastic and mean, and her feelings become even worse during menopause. She is really scary when she gets angry.
"What did the doctor say!"
Olivia cursed for a long time before angrily saying, "If there's no cure, just let him wait to die."
Lily replied cautiously, "Mom, the doctor said Ryan has a concussion and needs to be monitored overnight."
"This idiot barely has a brain to begin with. What's the point of monitoring it?"
Olivia stood up, picked up her bag and said, "I can't stand to look at this useless man anymore. Wait here, Lily. I'm leaving."
Lily gave a bitter smile and sat down beside Ryan's bed. She reached out to touch his arm gently. "Are you feeling okay, husband?"
"I feel a little dizzy!"
Ryan felt a little dazed, and couldn't help sighing, "I just don't understand your mom. This job only pays 3-4,000 a month, and she acts like it's some big deal because it's Tiger Real Estate."
Lily's voice was soft as she tried to reassure him.
"Tiger Real Estate is a leading company. Mom just wants you to succeed. She's trying to help in her own way."
Ryan shook his head slightly, choosing not to argue.
He knew Olivia's true motivation. To her, appearances were everything.
A job at a prestigious company made her look good in front of others, even if the pay was barely enough to make ends meet.
She was too proud to let anyone think her son-in-law was a nobody, even if she despised him for being just that.
"She'll come around," Lily said quietly. "She'll ask about your situation and probably pay for the medical bills, too."
As the nurse arrived to adjust the IV, Lily stayed by his side, sighing in resignation.
Ryan lay down and looked at his wife in a daze. From beginning to end, he could only use one word to describe her: ordinary.
----
Lily was of average height and build—neither tall nor short, neither fat nor thin. Her figure was modest, with small breasts and a small butt. Her facial features were unremarkable, not beautiful but not ugly either.
She also has a birthmark on her face so she is very inferior.
In the Castillo family, Lily's plain appearance often made her stand out for the wrong reasons.
Her eldest sister, Sophia, was stunningly beautiful—a tall, graceful woman who turned heads wherever she went.
The youngest sister, Vera, was equally striking with her baby face and a figure that drew attention effortlessly.
Their mother, Olivia, was a mature, voluptuous woman whose charm only seemed to grow with age.
Under their halo, his wife Lily looked ugly in comparison. It was said that his father-in-law Arthur even went for a paternity test, suspecting that this ugly girl was not his child.
After marrying into the Castillo family, Ryan often felt suffocated by the constant comparisons. His in-laws' disapproval and their tendency to belittle him only added to his frustration.
The greatest support he had was probably his wife's gentleness.
"Rest, and don't overthink things,"
Lily whispered, her voice soft with concern. She lowered her head, her insecurities evident as she held Ryan's hand.
Ryan closed his eyes, feeling exhaustion sweep over him. But as he drifted off, a strange sensation began to overtake him.
Suddenly, he felt like he was in a dream—though it didn't feel like any dream he'd ever had before.
In the darkness, a massive screen appeared before him, its surface flickering with static. A robotic, cold voice spoke out:
"Signal connection successful… Brain frequency is stable… Network connection established…"
"The gene bank data backup is complete, the data calculation is qualified, and the host binding begins..."
Ryan's eyes widened and his whole body twitched, he opened his mouth but couldn't utter a word.
After the strange sound was heard, Ryan felt severe pain all over his body. He could clearly feel that every cell in his body was suffering from the pain like an electric shock.
The body fainted again due to the severe pain, but consciousness was awakened in an instant.
Ryan was in a four-dimensional space, with lines of code flying by quickly, accompanied by that hallucinatory, cold voice:
"Binding successful. Host: Ryan Dressrosa. Species: Human. Gender: Male. Age: 25…"
"We are analyzing various data, and genetic data is being collected continuously..."
Ryan shouted anxiously, "Wait! Who… what are you?"
The codes flying around him made Ryan feel a little dizzy. Then a huge display appeared in front of him. It lit up:
"Host, it is an honor to pair with you successfully."
"What do you mean? What are you?"
Ryan felt dizzy. This dream was particularly strange.
"I am a system," the voice replied calmly. "A system summoned by you."
Before Ryan could react, a USB-like interface extended from the monitor and connected to his forehead. He froze, horrified, as he watched it merge seamlessly into his skin.
The connection sent another wave of electric pain shooting through him, leaving him gasping.
Unbeknownst to Ryan, this "system" was a highly advanced creation from a distant civilization, where technology had evolved far beyond physical forms.
It had drifted aimlessly through space and time, searching for a host to activate its dormant functions.
When Ryan's brain was injured in the accident, the chaos in his neural frequencies created a rare match with the system. The genetic calculations confirmed it—he was the perfect host.
Ryan's near-death state should have been the end for him, but instead, it became the beginning of something extraordinary.
