Will he find a way to balance his ambition with his humanity, or will the darkness of the system consume him completely? *it’s my very first system novel since I’m not a fan of systems. you should know before you start reading that the system is very realistic and the MC would struggle with it a lot. oh and, it contains a little sci-fi. just a tiny bit, it doesn’t affect the main story. There will be romance too, like, the MC would get a life besides football.
Elian's boots pounded the wet turf, his lungs burning as he sprinted down the wing. He had always been the fastest player on the team, but today his legs felt heavy, his movements sluggish. The opposing team's defender caught up to him easily, tackling the ball away with a sly smile.
Elian's coach yelled out from the sidelines, his words lost in the rain-soaked air. Elian knew he was disappointed, though. He had been struggling all season, his performances a shadow of his former self.
As the game ended in a dismal 2-0 loss, Elian trudged off the pitch, his head down. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was missing, that he'd lost his edge.
In the locker room, his teammates' chatter and annoyance only made him feel more isolated. He went through the motions of showering and changing, his mind elsewhere.
That's when he saw it - a strange, pulsing symbol on his phone. It seemed to be alive, It was an app he had never seen before, with no name or icon. Just a glowing, blue-green sigil that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy.
Curious, Elian opened the app, and a low hum filled his ears. The symbol expanded, filling the screen with a swirling vortex of light. Elian felt a sudden jolt, as if his mind was being pulled into the phone.
And then, everything went black.
When Elian's eyes opened, he was lying on the locker room floor, his phone still clutched in his hand. The app was gone, but a strange, tingling sensation lingered in his mind.
Elian sat up, rubbing his head, trying to remember what had happened. His teammates were staring at him, concerned.
"Dude, you okay?" one of them asked. "You just collapsed out of nowhere."
Elian nodded, still trying to clear the fog. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little dizzy, I guess."
But he wasn't fine. His mind was racing, filled with strange, fragmented images. He saw himself on the pitch, but it was different. He was faster, stronger, more confident. He saw the ball flying into the net, the crowd erupting in cheers.
And then, there was a voice. A low, whispery voice that seemed to come from inside his head.
"You have potential, Elian. But you're wasting it. Let me show you what you're truly capable of."
Elian shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. What was going on? He stood up, his legs still shaky, and made his way to the showers.
As he walked, the voice grew louder, more insistent. "Don't ignore me, Elian. I can help you. I can make you a star."
Elian spun around, but there was no one there. The voice was inside his head, echoing off his skull, ricocheting off the wires and patterns of his brain.
"Who are you?" he demanded, his voice shaking slightly.
"I am the Awakening System," the voice replied. "And I'm here to change your life forever."
Elian's mind raced as he tried to process what was happening. A voice in his head? It sounded crazy, but he couldn't deny what he was experiencing. Or was he…?
No, he couldn't be that depressed yet, he was certainly not going crazy.
"What do you mean?" Elian asked aloud, his voice barely above a whisper. He was a bit scared to speak loudly so he won't be mistaken for mad.
"I mean that I can help you unlock your true potential," the voice replied. "You have a gift, Elian. But you're not using it to its fullest extent. Let me show you what you're capable of."
Elian felt a surge of excitement mixed with fear. What if this voice was real? What if it could really help him?
"How?" he asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
"Just focus on your breathing," the voice instructed. "And let me in."
Elian hesitated for a moment, then closed his eyes and took a deep breath. As he exhaled, he felt a strange sensation, like a door opening in his mind.
The voice flooded in, filling his consciousness with visions of soccer games, tactics, and strategies, some of which he had never seen before.
Elian saw himself playing with precision and skill, scoring goals with ease. But he knew this wasn't him, but he could also become this amazing player right here.
It was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.
"Whoa, slow down!" Elian exclaimed, his mind reeling.
"Relax, Elian," the voice said. "I'm just showing you what's possible. You're in control."
Elian took another deep breath, trying to process what was happening. Was he really in control? Or was this voice manipulating him?
He opened his eyes to find himself back in the locker room, the voice still echoing in his mind.
Elian stumbled out of the locker room, his mind reeling with questions. What had just happened? Was he losing his mind?
As he walked out into the cool evening air, he felt a strange sense of calm wash over him. The voice was still there, whispering in his ear, but it was no longer overwhelming. It now felt like a desperate conman trying to rip him off, he wondered why.
"Trust me, Elian," it said. "I'm here to help. Just remember, focus on your breathing, and let me in."
Elian shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. He needed to talk to someone about this. But who? Who would believe him? Right now, he didn't even believe himself.
As he walked across the parking lot, he saw a figure waiting for him by his car. It was a woman with long, dark hair and piercing green eyes. Elian's gaze hit her own, and somehow he felt a sense of familiarity from the woman that he knew didn't belong to him.
"Elian," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "We need to talk."
"Who are you?" Elian demanded, his heart racing. Did this just get worse? Is she a psychiatrist? Was she somehow able to sense that he was going crazy?
"My name is Maya," she replied. "And I'm here to explain what's happening to you."
Elian's eyes narrowed. "What do you know is happening to me? Can you hear it too?"
Maya smiled. "Let's just say I'm familiar with the Awakening System. And I'm here to help you navigate it. You are not crazy."
Elian hesitated, unsure if he should trust her. But something about Maya's calm, confident demeanor put him at ease. Moreover he liked her now, she just reassured him that he wasn't crazy, what could be better than that?
"Okay," he said finally. "Let's talk."
As they drove away from the stadium, Elian felt a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation, mostly trepidation though, the excitement was almost nonexistent . What was he getting himself into?
Maya led Elian to a small, sleek car and motioned for him to get in. As they drove away from the stadium, Elian asked, "What's going on? What's this Awakening System?"
Maya glanced at him, her eyes gleaming with intensity. "The Awakening System is an advanced technology that enhances human performance. It's been used in various fields, but soccer is its latest application."
Elian's mind raced. "So, it's like a performance-enhancing drug? When last did I take a drug?"
Maya shook her head. "No, it's much more sophisticated than that. The System uses AI to optimize your skills, anticipate your opponents' moves, and predict the game's dynamics. It's like having a personal coach in your mind."
Elian's eyes widened. "That sounds incredible! But what's the catch?"
Maya's expression turned serious. "The System requires a high level of mental discipline and focus. If you're not careful, it will turn out to be a curse on you. Even at that, there are those who will stop at nothing to exploit its power."
Elian felt a shiver run down his spine. "What do you mean?"
Maya leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "There are organizations that seek to control the System for their own gain. They'll do whatever it takes to use its power to manipulate the game, the players, and even the outcome. They want to own sports."
Elian's eyes locked onto Maya's. "Are you saying I'm in danger?"
Maya nodded. "Not really, Elian. But you can't think of it that way, I wouldn't want you getting all cozy and comfortable. I'm here to help you navigate this world and protect you from those who would misuse the System's power."
As they drove into the night, Elian felt like he was entering a whole new world, one where the stakes were higher than he ever imagined. But he was alright. No one except Maya knew he had the system. Not yet.
