When she was done packing, Ethan stored everything in his space ring. Julian raised his brows, feeling a flicker of annoyance at Ethan's actions.
Eva, dressed in jeans and a simple top, tied her hair back, revealing her expressionless face. She took one last look at the house before stepping outside.
Closing the door, she knocked on her neighbor's door.
A dark-faced man opened the door, ''what?'' His tone echoed through the hallway, but upon seeing Eva, his features softened slightly.
''Sorry for …waking you. Give this… to the Den assigners. I'm leaving.'' She went straight to the point, handing him her keys.
''Eva, you're leaving?'' His earlier annoyance vanished, replaced by familiarity and surprise. He glanced over her shoulder, noticing the two men behind her.
His eyes widened when they settled on Ethan. He recognized him from the time he'd worked on the train tracks in Oasis City.
'What's Eva doing with someone like him?' His thoughts raced, but his body reacted instinctively. He stood up straighter.
''Good morning, Lord Ethan,'' He greeted respectfully. He then shifted his gaze to the other man, pausing for a moment before adding, "Good morning, Lord Julian."
Julian acknowledged the greeting with a slight nod. The man, now flustered by the presence of two dungeon conquerors, seemed to forget why Eva had come.
Eva, standing by silently, looked at the two men, feeling the power they exuded. Her heart, however, was focused on one thing- food. Her expectant gaze unnerved them as if something odd was brewing in her head.
''Oh, Eva, did you say you were leaving?'' the man finally asked, snapping out of his daze.
Eva wasn't bothered by his forgetfulness, instead, she handed him her keys, ''Yes. Goodbye,'' she replied curtly, turning to descend the stairs. Julian walked beside her, hands in his pockets, while Ethan followed closely behind.
The man stood at his doorway, dumbfounded, watching them leave.
Eva's eyes wandered around as they walked through the bustling city streets, taking in the bright artificial lights overhead. She nearly collided with a passerby but was pulled aside by Julian. She turned to him, puzzled.
''Can you watch where you're walking?'' Julian said, letting go of her arm. Eva, realizing what had happened, nodded in silent thanks.
They continued on their way, following the way they got in yesterday. As Ethan passed the security, his pace picked up, not wanting to remember what he had to go through yesterday.
''Should we head to the dungeon first or the City?'' Julian asked them but mostly to Ethan. Ethan looked at the warp gate, ''let's go to the city first.'' Ethan's face turned cold as he recalled those people who betrayed them.
Julian's eyes flashed with coldness, hearing Ethan's answer. ''oh~ it seems I forgot some pests.'' Julian's voice drawled dangerously.
Eva beside them, could only blink, confused at what they were speaking of. In her heart she was disappointed when they chose to go back to the city- nada, nothing was on her.
''Can… I follow you...later?'' Eva's words made them remember they had a new teammate. ''Do you want to go the dungeon?'' Ethan asked, lowering his head, to meet her gaze.
Eva nodded. She needed to hunt beasts to drop items or sell the corpses. Julian looked back at them, his hands still in his pockets, bending slightly to her level. His tone was teasing.
''Eva dear, with your puny body, how can you hunt a beast alone?''
Eva frowned at his words, knowing it was true. From the novel, the dungeon beasts were too perverted in strength, even the lower-ranked beast could kill with a small breeze.
Her power level was still too low to imbue weapons with energy for a long period, let alone restore vitality in plants. Her frown became more visible as she thought of all this. 'I have to increase my level or I won't know how I died in this world.'
''I'm going. Give me…your address… to find you later.'' Eva answered in a firm tone, her gaze was determined and serious to go alone.
Julian's playful gaze shifted and turned serious, ''So perchance are you going to do that by yourself?'' Ethan said nothing and wanted to hear her answer, dungeon raiding is not child's play or thinking determination alone is going to keep you alive, even as dungeon conquers have to be cautious when inside.
''Give me a weapon…I'm confident to…come back alive.'' Eva insisted making the both of them frown at her boldness.
''Know this, We brought you into the team to work with us but not us caring for you when you intentionally put yourself in harm's way.'' Julian's tone was cold and hoarse, the coldness hidden in him was evident.
But Eva didn't stand down, her gaze stared firmly at them, not backing down. Ethan finally brought out a sword from his space bag. ''If you don't come back an hour before the warp gates close, and we have to go in and save what's left of you then you'll be disqualified from the team but still given your two years food.'' His gaze was indifferent as he handed her the sword after giving her the time limit.
Julian frowned but said nothing against Ethan's decision. This was the first time they took a teammate, they didn't want her to become dependent on them or overconfident because of their backing.
Eva didn't think his words were harsh, if it was one of her Zombie generals, that ignored her command, his brains would have been smashed open immediately.
She took the sword and walked into the dungeon warp gate without looking back. They watched her leave and Ethan was unsure if he made the right decision.
''Let's follow after her, why are you still standing there,'' Julian called out as he walked in the direction of where she left. He planned to follow her and save her if she was about to die. Ethan nodded and followed along.
