Chapter 139 (edited)

Kara's sudden arrival, especially her speed, caught everyone off guard.

Fortunately, there was no one else in the room, only Bruce, Jennifer, Alfred, and a young boy.

When Kara arrived, she had clearly scanned the situation and confirmed that there were no outsiders present. That's why she didn't hesitate to fly straight in.

At the moment, Kara's focus landed on the boy.

She knew this was her godson, Damian Wayne—Bruce's eldest son, whom she jokingly nicknamed "Rice."

"I held him when he was just a baby, and now he's grown so much," Kara said, her tone filled with emotion.

Jennifer waved to Damian. "Sweetheart, come here. This is the other mother I've been telling you about."

Damian, only five years old, looked a little shy. After a brief hesitation, he walked over in small steps, carefully observing the towering figure of Kara, who stood at 6'3".

Standing before her, Damian had to crane his neck to look up. "Are you Kara?" he asked in a timid voice.

Kara knelt down excitedly, reaching out to hug him. "That's right, my dear Rice. I was the first person to hold you when you were born," she said warmly.

At that time, Kara had been with Jennifer throughout her labor, and naturally, she was the first to hold Damian. She even gave him the nickname herself.

Damian still seemed a little uncertain, glancing at his biological mother for reassurance.

Jennifer smiled and ruffled Damian's hair affectionately. "You can think of her as your other mother. She's family, too."

Jennifer had long accepted Kara's role in their lives. Kara was a lifelong bachelor, someone who wouldn't settle down, let alone find a partner. Jennifer wasn't surprised by this—Kara's standards were astronomically high.

Bruce Wayne himself didn't pique her interest. Who else could measure up? Superman? He was her cousin. Green Lantern? Kara barely tolerated Hal's arrogance, and besides, Kara was one of the most respected Lanterns in the galaxy. Her worldview had expanded beyond Earth and its limitations, and most alien species weren't exactly her type either.

In short, Kara had no plans to fall in love or start a family. Jennifer figured that if Kara wasn't going to have children of her own, then giving her a share in Damian's upbringing was the next best thing.

"You can think of him as half yours," Jennifer teased, fully aware of Kara's devotion to their family.

Before Bruce or Alfred could interject, Jennifer and Kara each grabbed one of Damian's small hands and led him to sit with them, leaving the men to their own devices.

Alfred leaned closer to Bruce and commented in a low voice, "Master Wayne, while Miss Kara is indeed the boy's second mother, I would advise against considering her your second wife. I fear the consequences might be… severe."

Bruce chuckled, replying with mock seriousness, "Don't worry, Alfred. I enjoy living too much to even try."

The two shared a knowing smile, their humor lightening the atmosphere.

Kara noticed them and cast a disapproving glance but let it slide since their banter wasn't too disruptive.

"By the way, Kara," Jennifer began, "Dani told me you turned green and flew off to outer space. What happened?"

Jennifer had been in the dark about the events in Coast City, and whenever she tried asking Dani, her daughter had simply told her to wait for Kara to return.

Kara didn't see any reason to hide it now. "I did go to outer space," she admitted. "I even met aliens."

Bruce, who had been quietly listening, couldn't remain silent any longer. "There are aliens?" he asked, his expression serious.

Bruce's concern wasn't misplaced. If extraterrestrial civilizations existed and posed a threat to Earth, humanity wasn't prepared to defend itself.

Kara scratched her head, feeling a bit awkward. "Ahem," she coughed lightly. "Well, there's one standing right in front of you."

Jennifer and Bruce exchanged surprised glances as Kara continued. "But you don't need to worry too much. There's an Asgardian presence in this region of space—a powerful interplanetary force that protects several civilizations, including Earth. And, of course, there's me."

Flexing her muscles in an exaggerated gesture, Kara added confidently, "Anyone foolish enough to mess with Earth will regret it."

Her words provided some reassurance, but Bruce and Jennifer still seemed slightly uneasy.

At that moment, Alfred returned, pushing a cart filled with refreshments. "I thought you might enjoy some drinks while you chat. And young master," he said, turning to Damian, "it's time for bed. You have school tomorrow."

Despite Kara's protests, Alfred guided Damian out of the room, leaving her momentarily forlorn.

"If you miss him that much, you should stay a few more days," Jennifer suggested.

Kara shook her head. "I'd love to, but I need to get back to my parents. They've been nagging me about my absence. Plus, I have no idea if Perry fired me from my job at the Daily Planet after disappearing for so long."

Disappearing for five years without a word wasn't exactly the best career move. Losing her job was almost a given.

The trio sat down to toast Kara's return.

As they talked, Kara learned that Bruce and Jennifer had married a few years earlier—before Harvey Dent and Rachel Dawes had tied the knot. She also found out that Harvey and Rachel had moved to another city to pursue their ambitions.

Finally, Bruce shared a piece of troubling news.

"The Joker escaped."

Kara shrugged, unsurprised. "Doesn't he do that every other Tuesday? You don't seriously think Arkham can hold anyone for long, do you?"

Her casual remark earned a laugh from Jennifer but left Bruce visibly tense. Kara didn't press the issue, trusting Bruce to handle Gotham's chaos as he always did.
