Jennifer had suddenly activated what seemed to be Sage Mode, leaving Kara completely surprised. Wasn't Sage Mode supposed to be exclusive to men?
Regardless, Jennifer appeared to have reached some kind of enlightenment. Or perhaps, as Jennifer often complained, Kara had genuinely underestimated her all along.
"Who's not a mature, intellectual big sister now?" Kara mused with some amusement.
Eventually, Kara said her goodbyes to Jennifer. She really needed to head back. If she stayed any longer, Perry would probably lose his mind.
After all, she'd only submitted one issue of articles, and her readers were already demanding more updates. Yet, here she was, delaying everything. A stunt like this was no joke.
Before heading back, Kara needed to return the Lamborghini she'd driven earlier that morning. It belonged to Bruce, after all. When Bruce had picked them up the day before, he'd brought several cars. As a result, Kara had borrowed one when she left in the morning, and now it was time to return it.
For a moment, Kara wished she could transform into Supergirl and just fly back, saving herself the hassle. But unfortunately, now wasn't the time to reveal that part of herself.
When Kara returned to Wayne Manor, Bruce had finally woken up.
"You're just waking up?" Kara asked as she found Bruce casually wandering around the living room in his pajamas. It was almost identical to how he had looked the first time she'd interviewed him.
Bruce simply shrugged. After all, this was his home.
"How's Jennifer?" Bruce asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
Kara gave him a quick glance, hiding her amusement. Jennifer had been secretly in love with him for a decade. And now, just when Bruce seemed to start noticing her, Jennifer was no longer standing in the same place.
"Forget about her," Kara replied abruptly, surprising even herself. "She's moved on."
Bruce looked stunned.
"She just wiped her hands clean and left? Without caring about my feelings?" he asked incredulously. "Hasn't she always liked me?"
How had things flipped like this? Wasn't it supposed to be the man who walked away irresponsibly? Yet here he was, feeling like the one who'd been left behind.
Kara snorted quietly. "Don't play dumb, Bruce. You know exactly why. Jennifer saw the way you look at Rachel. It's clear your heart has already been claimed."
"Focus on your Miss Rachel," Kara said, deciding to end the subject before it grew too uncomfortable. Then, her tone lightened. "By the way, go put on your Batsuit. I need photos."
"What for?" Bruce asked warily.
"For my editor, Perry," Kara replied. "I need something to explain my absence, and photos of Batman will do the trick."
In today's world, Batman was arguably the first and only widely-known superhero. Kara had traveled the globe and encountered others with extraordinary abilities—like Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, who was training under a man named Vulko at the time. Kara had even sparred with Arthur and bested him within a day.
She had also crossed paths with Diana Prince, Wonder Woman herself. However, neither Arthur nor Diana had revealed their existence to the world, unlike Bruce. Batman stood alone as the symbol of a new age of heroes.
Under Kara's persistent urging, Bruce finally relented. He led her to the study, where he pressed a sequence of notes on the grand piano, revealing the hidden entrance to the Batcave. Inside, Kara saw Bruce's full collection of gear—including a new suit he'd secretly crafted just for her.
The original Oracle suit Kara had worn was a makeshift adaptation of one of Bruce's own designs. This new suit, however, was custom-made. Alfred was even applying a silver-gray finish to it, a color carefully chosen to blend practicality with aesthetic appeal. It was darker than white but still distinct from Bruce's signature black.
Kara couldn't help but notice the similarity to the necklace Jennifer had once gifted Bruce, with its silver and black bat pendants. It made her wonder—was this Bruce's way of showing he cared, even if indirectly?
After donning the new suit, Kara posed for photos with Bruce in the Batcave. She'd even written a small script to stage some dynamic shots—training sequences, casual moments on the Batmobile, and more.
Bruce, despite his usual stoicism, played along. Kara couldn't help but notice that he had also begun designing her very own Batmobile, complete with adaptive technology. If damaged, it could switch from a four-wheeled vehicle to a two-wheeled one seamlessly.
Finally, after everything was done, Kara prepared to leave, feeling a mix of satisfaction and amusement. Bruce Wayne, the ever-elusive Dark Knight, might be more sentimental than he let on.
