Peters softly chuckled before he answered, "Miss, the $200 is not for the rent but for the items in the fridge and all the supplies in the pantry."
"I see," Abigail smiled, imagining her three-month food stock in the pantry.
"I hope you don't mind paying that much, Miss Abigail..." Peters' apologetic tone once more made her feel sad for him. This man was so unlucky. His boss sent him to another city, and now the homeowner punished him, too.
However, Abigail also understood the homeowner's ultimate decision. Peters should have followed the rules. If their contract stated Peters could not rent the house to others, he should not have rented it to her.
A thankful feeling surged in Abigail's heart as she realized the homeowner had allowed her to stay. She hoped for an opportunity to express her gratitude to him.
