The Wandering Devil

Chapter: 10

Pa/ t reon details at the bottom of the chapter if you're interested I'll keep posting regardless.

(Devil Heritage)

"Rose, listen. This isn't going anywhere." I said and she growled. "A guild advisor showing aggression would get you fired, this isn't normally like you. Tell me what's going on."

Her posture, once stiff and combative, seemed to deflate all at once. The fire in her eyes dimmed as her shoulders sagged, her stance crumbling under the weight of something she wasn't saying.

"You're right," she murmured, her voice softer, more vulnerable than I'd ever heard it. The words came out shakily, "Forgive me... I don't know why I'm acting like this. I should... I will turn in my resignation."

She moved to leave, her usual composure gone, but I caught her by the arm before she could go far. Without thinking, I pulled her into a hug. She tensed, like a spring ready to snap, but she didn't push me away. Nor did she lean into the embrace.

I sighed.

"Don't do that Rose, I don't want some other guild advisor who will end up pissing me off," I admitted, receiving an honest to god smile from her.

For the first time since i had met her, I saw a flicker of something in her, a small, genuine smile. "Don't I piss you off?"

"Nah, not really. You're pretty cool when you're not being overbearing." I paused, smirking a little. "And you're hot, too."

She didn't retort, simply nodding.

"Fine," she finally said, her voice quieter now. "I'll stop. I just… I just want you to be safe. I don't want you to end up like so many other adventurers who get themselves killed because they think they're invincible."

I let her continue.

She brushed a stray strand of red hair out of her face, her hand trembling slightly. "Maybe I've been going about this the wrong way with you. I thought someone like you would be too stubborn to listen to me. So I foolishly jumped to hostility."

I nodded.

"Why don't you come into the dungeon with me sometime," I asked, and she flinched.

Ah, so that's it.

"I see."

I decided to wrap her into a hug, she reminded me of someone and that made me feel a bit softer.

"An ex-adventurer?" I questioned quietly, she nodded into my chest. "You know I'm strong, if you ever change your mind I could show you why I am different from the rest of the adventurers." I offered, and she looked up at me.

Sharp yellow eyes looked at me softly.

Hello, Rose Fennett.

This was what was underneath the trauma.

"I'll think about it." She replied, pushing herself away from me. I briefly frowned at the loss of her curvaceous body pressing against mine, seriously what was with the girls of this world?

"I'll take my leave then, I won't ignore you again. Just try to trust me. I am a dick but unfortunately, it seems people like me normally end up winning." I replied casually, receiving a snort.

"You aren't a 'dick'. You are just reckless." She retorted, looking away. "Goodbye."

I left the room.

That was rather anticlimactic.

-Scene Break-

I hovered above a Killer Ant, two large bat-like wings coming out of my back as I hovered steadily in place. The Killer Ants' two glowing red eyes glared up at me.

The monster attempted to jump and bite at my feet as it had been for the past few minutes as I simply observed it.

My eyes twitched just a bit.

I was going to come out and blame this on my human mindset. I had completely neglected my devil heritage. If I had simply used my wings during the dungeon flood I would have been fine.

Well, the first-floor ceiling height isn't that large actually. They may have just piled up on top of each other to pull me down, which could have been worse actually.

I had decided to dungeon dive without Bell. I had obviously taken Lili who was hiding in a corner gawking at me. Since it didn't make sense not to take my carrier with me, she was surprisingly good at her job.

With her around I had realised just how many monster crystals we had been leaving, and I being the greedy devil I was didn't like the thought of leaving money around.

I planned to move our familia to a larger house soon so we could have some privacy, and because I wanted my familia to have the best. The second reason may just be a devil pride thing.

I had told Lili about my wings, making them out to be a magical skill. Which was technically true, but not outright lying. She had been nonchalant about it at first until she had seen them which led to her gawking now.

The relationship between me and Lili had been a little rough, that contract had shook her I suppose but in my defence, she tried to steal from me. I think the fact I had been paying her well and being chilled with her had calmed her down.

She even seemed to enjoy meeting up with us a little bit. From what I knew she seemed to have zero friends so it made sense she would enjoy some companionship.

Swinging my arm down, a burst of wind decapitated the Killer Ant. Lili comes out of hiding and picks up the monster crystals. I had just cleaned out a massive hoarse relatively easily as I hovered up in the air.

They had eventually tried to body pile their way up to me but I had just erased their efforts with a singular blade of wind. My demonic power training had bore fruits.

I was almost glad I hadn't come into this world relying on the crutch of a magical circle. While it would have probably made the dungeon flood a piece of cake I feel like I had grown a lot without it.

Demonic power was naturally wasteful. It was chaotic and it wanted to be released.

"Right, I think we should go to the lower floors," I announced.

"Lower? But we've never even gone this low before with Bell." Lili asked.

I smiled.

"You're with me now, and I haven't had a chance to improve due to my little apprentice. So we will be going to the lower floors." I replied easily.

I felt confident. My magic was stronger, I had gained some stats in my time training Bell. There was also Devil transportation. I felt stupid for not considering it before.

Though its usage would have been limited before to mainly teleportation up to the surface. It couldn't be used in battle since it took quite a bit of time to actually use. Well, as of right now. I was sure I could get there with more practice.

Linking two points together through space and time wasn't exactly easy, luckily my magical tutor had taught me how or it would have taken a lot longer to even be able to.

Quoting the profound words of my magical tutor, "It's a hard fucking spell". Novice users are unable to even travel using another caster's circle. While I was somewhat familiar with the spell, I haven't quite reached the level required to use it to travel over large distances.

Especially if I don't have a magical focus point at the location I wanna travel to

I had neglected the benefits of being a devil past the basic demonic energy part, but being a devil had a lot of perks. Perks I was here to accept with open arms.

Retracting my devil wings and only stumbling a tad as I descended to the ground. My thoughts went back as we started descending to lower floors, Lili using me as a shield. Which was fair. She wasn't a fighter.

Things after the date night had been strange, Hestia was acting strange. She was still the same happy and kind person. That hadn't changed, but she was extremely possessive and overly curious. I believe that's the best way to describe it.

Bell hadn't picked up on it, mainly since he was just happy to be included.

Which was why he didn't complain about the little job I was having him do at the moment.

-{Bell Cranel}-

Standing in an adorable rabbit costume, Bell handed a flyer to a passing couple with a bright if not a tad embarrassed grin. His shy but joyful demeanour added to the eye-catching costume.

He wasn't sure why Zephyrion had told him to wear the rabbit costume he had seemingly made for him or why he was handing out these flyers with weird inscriptions on the back of them. The words "Anything you desire with just a deal." Was added on the flyers in bold.

Though the costume seemed to work in drawing attention to him, something he normally shied away from. He didn't this time, since he was happy he could finally start paying back the person who had saved him from a dreary life.

Knowing how to fight only went so far when thugs travelled in groups, and they were all enhanced by falna's. He only had twenty more flyers he was able to give out before he ran out.

Zephyrion had instructed him to hand out flyers to people who stood out, but Bell wasn't entirely sure what that meant.

"Excuse me." A soft feminine voice called.

Bell turned around and was met with a hooded figure. The only thing visible was a few strands of silky whiteish-silver hair. The only other thing that stood out was her buxom figure that not even her cloak couldn't hide.

'I would say that's pretty eye-catching.' He thought with a nod.

"Hello." He greeted the lady.

"Sorry to bother you, but may I have one of those." She asked, pointing to the flyers.

"Of course," Bell replied with a bright smile.

Bell handed one and ignored the movement he saw through the shadow cast by her cloak that suspiciously looked like the licking of her lips.

"Thank you." She mumbled softly, turning around and disappearing into the crowd.

Bell blinked in slight confusion. Only to get distracted as someone walked past him on the busy street he was handing the flyers out on, greeting them with a friendly smile and handing them a flyer.

-{Zephyrion}-

I peeked around the corner with a shit-eating grin and observed the pack of hellhounds, specifically the large pack of ferocious hellhounds sniffing around the clearing that we had stumbled across on the fifteenth floor.

They looked like overly large wolves with pitch-black fur and razor-sharp teeth. Their glaring baleful red eyes scanned the surroundings as they sniffed the floor. Probably looking for prey.

This floor has an interesting layout, everything seemed to be made out of bedrock, the floors, walls and ceiling. Everyone was a lot darker and the air seemed moist.

I slowly turned back to Lili who shook her head at me pleadingly.

We had lucked out in finding a pack so large, or maybe it wasn't quite luck. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few adventurer parties died to this horde before it was taken out by some higher-level party.

Continuing my insane growth meant I needed to go beyond what was needed.

I knew that physically I was able to hurt them. Rose had finally given me a monster index which was nice of her. We were somewhat back on better terms. Though she was going to be annoyed that I was going deeper again.

She couldn't exactly do anything about it, since guild advisors didn't get involved in guild affairs but she was a bit different from the others. She tried to persuade people off the path of adventuring so they wouldn't die.

It was cute honestly. She cared in her own way.

Back on the task at hand, Hellhounds were resistant to magic. Which was my trump card and extremely resistant to fire magic in particular. They could summon balls of magical fire that could easily disintegrate a lower-level two adventurer.

So it wasn't a surprise that Lili, who didn't know of my strength, would be extremely averse to fighting. All she knew was that I was strong and a tad unhinged at times.

Which was mostly my devil and future modern human mindset combined.

"Stay here," I whispered, receiving a quiet protest.

She growled in annoyance as I stood up.

One of the Hellhounds turned their head in time to spot me. Snarling and producing a clicking in its throat that alerts the others. One beyond all of them raised its head and I paused.

It was a bit larger than the others and seemed to have influence in this little pack as it came to the front. Sniffing at me. I prepared myself to dodge and use my magic.

They may have a resistance but that didn't mean they were immune. Plus the magic of danmachi was weaker than my demonic energy so it was hard to say how resistant they really were but I was about to find out.

The main Hellhound took a step forward, sniffing again as its head tilted. It stopped snarling as it looked more confused. The others glanced at it in confusion as they snarled at me.

Were they communicating in some instinctive way?

That's interesting. I knew there was something more to the dungeon than just monsters. There was the existence of xenomorphs I believe. However, that could be different since I couldn't trust any knowledge from my past life.

All monsters seemed to have this weird reaction to me though, so I was prepared for it to snap back to reality and try to rip my throat out. It took a bit longer than normal but sure enough, it roared.

The pack Hellhounds didn't waste time, opening their mouths and unleashing a combined wave of scorching hot fire. Unleashing my wings I shot up.

Reaching the dungeon ceiling I kicked down, using it to propel me down into the closest Hellhound. I was sent down at an ungodly amount of speed. Swinging my fist, I punched down. The head of the poor Hellhound caving in under the sheer power.

A small shockwave spread out from the impact. The Hellhound was crushed to death instantly.

"Okay, that worked better than expected," I mumbled, looking down at the corpse.

I backpedalled as another Hellhound jumped at me, teeth in position to rip out my throat. My hands came up and the air above it became cold. A cold materialised and from that a spike of ice formed, the ice mist solidifying.

The next moment it shot up and lodged itself into the Hellhounds' throat a moment later. It coughed and stepped back, I couldn't focus on it more as four more Hellhounds were suddenly jumping on me.

Whipping my arms out a massive force of air pushed them away from me, the wave of air visible as it kicked up dust from the cold stone floor of the dungeon floor.

I jumped up wings still out. The space below me was instantly covered in magical fire as the Hellhounds didn't waste time. I responded in kind and decided to shoot down from the roof again, bringing out my sword which was strapped on my back.

The unsuspecting Hellhound below me found itself decapitated as I coated my sword with a small amount of demonic energy, which was done with some difficulty. I did it for a clean slice mainly, my sword needed an upgrade.

That's how the next two Hellhounds found themselves dying, as I slipped unnoticed through the kicked-up dust. I was soon noticed though as multiple magical fireballs were sent at me.

I grinned as I dodged out of the way, the large amount of Hellhounds charging towards me from all sides in an attempt to overwhelm me. Resheathing my sword, a thick cold mist gathered in my arms. Making me wince a bit.

Maybe I should hold off on using this type of magic so closely to my skin.

Gathering the mist up, I compressed it and just as the Hellhounds were about to dogpile me I released it.

A massive shockwave of ice exploding out and froze everything around me, I felt winded from the sheer amount of demonic energy used. All the Hellhounds around me were frozen solid.

I didn't lower my guard though as I spotted the shadow of the alpha Hellhound who had seemingly been letting the smaller Hellhounds go at me before making a move.

It almost seemed to be analysing me but I wasn't sure. Finally, it decided to make its move. A massive fireball sent my way, which I avoided and met with a claw as the Alpha Hellhound followed up on its attack instantly.

I successfully dodged the claw swipe, punching the Alpha with enough strength to send it flying back into the dungeon wall. Snarling, it got back up and its throat glowed.

A massive stream of fire erupts out of its mouth a moment later. Which I countered by sending a massive powerful wall of air at it, the air changing the direction of the magical fire and amplifying it several fold.

The Alpha Hellhound found itself standing against a massive tsunami of magical fire.

I felt my inside alight with excitement, this had been the first time since mastering my demonic power input that I had allowed myself to fully just let go and spend my energy like a rich recently divorced lady.

The fire consumed the Alpha and everything behind it, exploding and leaving a path of blazing fire. A lot of fire that started filling the air with black smoke.

Oops. I did need to be careful with fire magic.

I couldn't just ignore this either, this was a lot of fire.

The air in front of me became moist as water started forming, growing into a large ball of water that I used to create a small wave of water that helped diminish the fire into something much more manageable.

Giving myself a pat on the back for my efforts, I decided that someone else could deal with the rest of it.

A weak growl caught my attention, the Alpha stumbling out. Burns all over its body and its fur singed.

"Huh, so you are quite resistant to fire in particular. That's pretty impressive." I complimented the Alpha.

Its head tilted slightly and its ears perked up as if it could hear me which made me pause. The silent stand-off didn't last much longer as it slowly charged at me.

A weak pitiful ball of fire sent at me and I stepped aside.

The Alpha Hellhound jumped at me with the last of its strength as I stood waiting for its attack, deciding to give it a good death for its efforts.

I slipped past its bite at my throat, putting my index and middle finger together, I built up a concentrated amount of kinetic energy as my hands swung through the air. Using my magic to amplify the kinetic energy created by that action.

I thrust my fingers forward. The kinetic energy focused into a point and delivered a powerful strike that practically tore apart its stomach. I was left nearly breathless from the large amount of demonic energy it required.

Elemental manipulation was much easier.

The Alpha Hellhound flopped down on the floor. Its eyes stuck on me, a hint of respect before they glassed over. Dead.

I nodded, with a big smile. That was fun.

Turning back to Lili my smile turned into a thoughtful frown as I realised she had passed out. Whether it was from the heat, smoke or just pure shock was unknown.

Approaching her unconscious body, which sounded a bit bad in my head. I gave her cheek a pat.

"Hey," I called out.

She groaned, waking up as I kept patting her cheek. She looked up at me in an oddly vulnerable way and I decided to play around with her at this moment.

"You passed out," I said, somewhat softly.

Giving her head a pat as I stood up. She quickly scrambled up, looking at the frozen bodies of the Hellhounds in shock.

"Pick up these monster crystals and we will head back using a special method of transportation," I ordered, preparing myself to use demonic teleportation.

She quickly got it, only looking a bit confused as I started concentrating my demonic energy. First I need to create a quasi-demonic circle to use as a barrier. Which would help me keep any demonic power inside from escaping.

It wasn't a permanent demonic circle that allowed for much better energy loss and it would die out as soon as I stopped channelling power into it. The circle formed with a red glow, the circle distorting a bit before I got it under control.

Linking the magic formation to the abandoned church which I had a clear image of was only a bit difficult. I prepared to make the jump which I had done a few times before.

Once Lili had finished picking up the stones I called her over. She stepped inside the demonic circle hesitantly and sent me a questioning look. I shrugged, which seemed to confuse her more.

An intended response.

The magic circle started to rise and envelope our bodies. As it completely covered us, our surroundings started to distort.

Everything around us started to glow and she ended up clutching onto me in her best imitation of a cat. The scene around us changed as the glow started to die down and nodded to myself.

Good, it worked.

The circle's glow died down and dispersed as I stopped channelling energy into it. We were standing in the middle of the living room in the abandoned church.

Lili had finally stopped clutching onto me as she looked around in bewilderment.

"Ok, no," Lili shouted, pointing at me accusingly. "You can't keep just pulling these weird abilities out of your ass, and then telling Lili it's just magic or shrugging as if you don't know either!"

"The wings are magic though and the teleportation circle is almost magic if you wanted to know." I pointed out and she growled at me.

"Maybe a more in-depth explanation? I've been around many adventurers and that type of magic just isn't a thing." Lili replied.

"Well, it's more of a bloodline thing." I whimsically responded.

She stared at me for a second before sighing and shaking her head. Lili pulled out her bag and gave it to me. I divided the monster crystals by size and worth. Leaving Lili with a large bag of monster crystals.

"I'll see you tomorrow?" She questioned, eyes flickering to her bag.

"Yeah, I need to give you your bag back after all," I replied lazily, giving her a grin.

She nodded with a small smile and departed from the abandoned church.

I flopped down on the couch. I had spent quite a bit of demonic energy today. I felt flashy.

"You seem to be getting along well." Hestia entered the room, a pleasant smile on her face.

"She's starting to come out of her shell, it's been good to have a porter. Our income has drastically increased. We should get to looking at houses soon, I'll ask Rose." I replied, Hestia, coming closer to me as I spoke.

"The lady from the guild that serves as your advisor?" She questioned and I nodded. I leant back and closed my eyes.

I paused as I suddenly found my hot goddess on my lap, Zephyrion junior was caught wholeheartedly unprepared as he found himself wedged between two soft thick thighs.

She tilted her head down at me and my hands instinctively came up to her waist.

What was she doing? Normally when she wanted to cuddle she would just lay on top of me and wrap her arms around me like a koala. She had a sexy little smile on her face as she stared down at me strangely.

Zephyrion junior was slowly losing the battle, there was only so much restraint a man could have. Especially a devil man.

"You know that I am here right?" She questioned.

"Yeah?" I replied.

A blush was creeping up on her face as she slowly started grinding herself on me.

I didn't even bother trying to hide my hardness. Simply deciding that I didn't care to hide it anymore. She knew what she was doing at this point.

See, it wasn't that I didn't understand. It was more the fact that I was wondering why a virgin goddess was doing it.

"Then why are you speaking about all these other girls?" She whispered, lowering her head in a painfully sexy manner.

Was she jealous…?

I picked her up and flipped us around. The sexy goddess underneath me. I wasn't going to turn down an invitation, this was probably my doing since I had been hitting on her.

How couldn't I? She beat any girl I had seen in my previous life and in this world, in looks with contemptuous ease. Which wasn't fair considering they were normal humans in a mundane world and Hestia was a goddess in a magical world.

Her personality was also amazing, kind, caring and supportive. She was my biggest supporter and I guess that's why I developed a very soft place for her quickly. I would ignore the fact that Serafall probably had something to do with my preference for this type.

I admit though I didn't expect anything for a long while, after all. I knew she could develop feelings from canon or suspected she could, since canon could be wrong but that had taken a much longer time.

Then again while Bell was awesome and my lieutenant. I was better than him. I didn't even mean that in a cocky way.

Still…

Virgin goddess my ass.

I leaned down and kissed the soft lips that I had only claimed once before, fully enjoying the experience of kissing a goddess who reciprocated passionately. Hestia tasted insanely good.

She moaned and ground herself against me harder from underneath me. Her large soft breasts were soft, the dress she wore doing nothing to hide her curvaceous figure.

Pulling back and taking in her deep pants for air that she probably didn't need, I went to proceed which she happily accepted only to feel a tugging on my demonic energy.

A contract…

Really? Why did this have to happen now? I mean yeah, I got Bell to hand them out but…

I pulled further back from Hestia who looked at me in confusion and a bit of hurt which made me wince.

"Zeph? Did I do something wrong?" She asked in an oddly vulnerable tone.

"No, no." I quickly assured her, leaning down to kiss her again which she happily accepted.

"One of my contracts has been set off," I replied and her eyes looked almost pleadingly at me.

"Can't you accept it later?" She asked, leaning up to kiss me again.

Could I?

I sensed the link coming from the contract that was activated based on the summoner's desire. Curious, ambition, wariness, Rage. It was intriguing and my devil instincts told me it made for a good contractor.

Sigh.

"I'm sorry, it seems too interesting to reject and it's my first contract. Can't get a tardy record. I'll be back soon." I replied.

She nodded with sadness evident in her eyes, I gave her a hug. Which she instantly accepted.

"I'll be back soon," I promised, letting the spark of demonic energy be used as a foci that allowed a teleportation spell to effortlessly form below me.

Light encompassed my vision and my surroundings changed.
