— Izan Marsans was in his office, reviewing some documents and talking to Amaranta on the phone, as he did every night he was available. While he was talking to that little girl with blonde hair and gray eyes, someone was behind the door of his office listening to the conversation he was having with Amaranta.
—"Little Amaranta, don't worry about anything other than school, leave everything else to me." Izan said.
— Liliana Cota, was outside the door of Izan Marsans' office, she was a psychologist assigned to the camp, they had known Izan since childhood, their parents were friends, they stopped seeing each other when she was 18 years old, because they assigned her father to another military zone, and she later studied abroad, when she returned she did everything possible to enter the army as a psychologist for high-ranking military personnel, to be able to be close to Izan Marsans, with whom she had been secretly in love since the 12 years. Hearing someone small call with such a sweet voice, she was surprised, because she knew that Izan did not have any dealings with women outside of her family, perhaps she already had a girlfriend and she didn't know it.
— Liliana Cota, she knocked on the door and then announced herself. — "Can I come in, Captain Marsans, I am the psychologist, Dr. Cota."
—"Go ahead, you can come in" Izan responded after saying goodbye to Amaranta and hanging up.
—"Captain, I brought you these reports so that you can review them and sign them." Liliana gave him the documents that she had in her hand, Izan received them, but he noticed that the woman was not leaving.
—"Anything else Doctor? I will contact you once I have them ready"- Izan asked with a serious face and without any emotion.
—"No… No, nothing more, I'm leaving now"- Liliana Cota left Izan Marsans' office.
Liliana Cota turned around and left the office. She met Scott on the stairs.
"Scott!"
— David Scott bowed and greeted her, "Miss Cota."
"You used to just call me Liliana. Why so distant now? What's with the formality?"
David Scott smiled and said, "That was in the past. Now that we are in the military, I have to follow the rules."
"Okay then."
— Liliana Cota and David Scott walked together. After a moment of silence, she asked David Scott, "Does Captain Marsans have a girlfriend?"
— David Scott was Izan Marsans' assistant and right-hand man. "I don't think so," he replied. "I've never heard him say anything about having a girlfriend…"
—"You don't have one? Really? But I heard Captain Marsans on the phone chatting with someone when I went to give him some reports. I thought he had a girlfriend," Liliana Cota shared casually.
— David Cota did not expect women to have such complicated thoughts. He slapped his forehead. "Are you talking about little Amaranta?"
—"Little Amaranta?" Liliana was filled with jealousy when she heard these words. They sounded so adorable. 'Little Amaranta'…
— David then continued, "Do you know how Captain Marsans got injured last time? Captain Marsans has a unique blood type. Little Amaranta was the one who donated blood to save him. She is Captain Marsans' saviour, not his girlfriend. He just finished taking the college entrance exam. Our Captain Marsans is not a… beast…"
— For some people, a 28-year-old man could have a 20-year-old girlfriend. This was reasonable and acceptable.
However, if a 26-year-old man had an 18-year-old girlfriend, people would find it abhorrent.
—"Oh, so that's what happened… Then you should treat little Amaranta well. How is little Amaranta's situation?"
— Liliana was a psychologist, so David Scott was no match for her. She had already told him everything about Amaranta in a walk of about a hundred meters.
— Liliana was very happy when she discovered that little Amaranta was not Izan Marsans' girlfriend, but rather his saviour.
She-she could guess what Izan Marsans' thoughts were on this. Probably, he was going to treat the little girl like a younger sister and protect her from her.
Liliana Cota felt that she had to meet this little girl…
— At least, she had to let him know that there was a woman named Liliana Cota next to Izan Marsans. She, was a good match for Izan Marsans in terms of family background, education, job, pretty much everything.
— Philip called Izan Marsans. He was excited to report what had happened recently involving Amaranta.
— On the other end of the phone, Izan was attending a meeting and was very loud. "Brother, you wouldn't believe the important information I discovered this afternoon!" Izan Marsans covered his other ear and asked, "What is it?"
—"There is a boy who likes Amaranta…" —
— Philip Thompson said sentimentally. "Youth divine treasure, you know I also liked the prettiest girl in school when I was young. It was a shame that the girl didn't like me…"
— Philip, he knew very well that even though he and the prettiest girl in the world
They didn't finish school together, the feeling of admiring someone would make one's heart feel warm when one remembered them many years later. That feeling was something he had never felt again after graduating.
—"What happened after that?"
—"That boy didn't dare to confess to him!" Philip thought about how Alberto looked. He was handsome and good-natured. He also heard that Alberto's grades were quite good and that his father was also the mayor of the city. Alberto was definitely a popular boy. "I have the feeling that more people will like Amaranta… I don't know which man will be able to defend himself against so many rivals."
—"Don't forget that Amaranta is still young." "Keep a close eye on her and don't let those foolish boys fool her," Izan Marsans instructed with concern.
— Philip only confirmed what Izan said. When they were in this conversation, he heard a woman scream suddenly from the other end of the line.
"Captain Marsans, I LIKE YOU!"
Philip was very curious. He couldn't wait to ask Izan Marsans about it.
He dared to shout "Captain Marsans, I like you!" In front of so many people. Wasn't he afraid that Izan Marsans would reject his advances? Was he out of his mind? He was embarrassing.
— One had to know that Izan Marsans was a gentleman. However, he was not so tender when it came to the opposite sex that he made his feelings known in front of so many people.
Philip felt sorry for the woman who had confessed to Izan, that all the gods that poor woman knew helped her.
The rowdy crowd immediately fell silent as Liliana Cota shouted, "Captain Marsans, I like it!"
Izan Marsans hung up the phone. A touch of coldness could be seen in his stern-looking eyes. The silence was deafening. Only the sound of crackling fire could be heard.
The fire illuminated Liliana Cota's face, highlighting her shy expression.
If Liliana Cota had confessed to another man, the crowd would have cheered them both, perhaps encouraged them and congratulated them.
However, she made the grave mistake of making her confession to the "devil of the army, lord almighty." Therefore, no one dared to mock them or make any comments, not a single sound was made.
"Instructor, Cota, I think she had too many drinks," commented one of the officers. "You two, kindly escort her."
Liliana's heart twisted with pain.
This was Izan Marsans
Her rejection was so obvious. That hurt to the bones
—"Captain Marsans, I'm not drunk," Liliana Cota insisted. "I like you… I like you a lot. You don't have to accept my confession or do anything."
Izan Marsans' expression remained the same: Stoic, with a countenance as if sculpted in stone.
— He didn't like girls like Liliana Cota. It wasn't that Liliana wasn't good, but they had grown up together. Even though they had been separated for several years because their parents had been deployed to different places, Izan had watched Liliana grow up. He…he wasn't interested in her romantically. He only saw her as a friend of her family; someone familiar
— No matter how much Liliana had changed, Izan had simply never recovered from the traumatic experience of her crying when she was a child; she was unbearably capricious.
—"Liliana Cota, I'm sorry. Don't waste your time with me. There are more men who really want to be by your side, however, that man is not me."
With that, Izan Marsans turned and left.
Liliana ran after him. She caught up with Izan at an empty spot.
"Did you reject me for Amaranta?"
— Izan Marsans turned around fiercely. His expression was terrifying. Liliana saw a different side of Izan, a side she had not seen, which at that moment terrified her.
"Liliana Cota, rejecting you has nothing to do with anyone else!" — How he dared to mention her little girl, when he doesn't even know her.
"That's impossible. You must have rejected me because…"
"Liliana Cota, you're a psychologist, right? You should know if I like you or not. Why do you have to make things so uncomfortable for everyone?"
Liliana covered her face. She was very sad. She liked him a lot. But why did she refuse to give him any answers?
Izan shook his head and then walked away. "Women… They're really unpredictable. You don't know what they would do or say." She left muttering. She returned to his bedroom and took a shower. After that, she changed into a camouflage t-shirt and matching shorts. Then, she went to sit on the balcony and look at the stars in the night sky.
Not many people lived there. There was also no industrial pollution.
At night, the sky looked as if someone had scattered stars in it. They were all over the sky.
She found her phone and turned it on. He looked at Amaranta's photo and couldn't help but feel that little Amaranta was more adorable than any woman he knew.
