Chapter 7: What's the Point of Discussing Legitimacy When You've Lost Your Life?

"If that Madman were to come here, it's still uncertain who would overpower whom!"

With that thought, Bai Ren couldn't wait to mobilize her spiritual power and absorb the energy of the surrounding vegetation.

She didn't know how much time had passed when the aroma of cooked meat wafted through the air, and Bai Ren could no longer sit still, drawn in by the scent.

She glanced down to see two little rascals sneaking around, eyeing her position.

Bai Ren smoothly leapt down from the broken tree.

The two kids had been secretly watching this way since earlier because the meat was almost done, but since their big sister was still resting with her eyes closed on the tree trunk, they didn't dare to disturb her outright, hesitating over what to do. Finally, Bai Ren came down from the tree.

The children immediately passed her the food with joy.

The big Flower Python, thick as an arm, had been skinned and gutted, its white flesh roasted to a golden crisp.

Bai Ren glanced at the thin stone slices and snake skin not far away and realized Bai Sasa actually had some wisdom for wilderness survival.

"Not bad," she praised, feeling quite pleased.

This compliment made Bai Sasa blush; it was the first time her big sister had praised her.

Bai Lingyu looked enviously at Sister Shi Yi, yearning for such praise from his big sister too.

Bai Ren ignored the thoughts of the two children and eyed the juicy piece of snake meat in her hand.

The Flower Snake was quite fat, its meat as thick as a finger, and the grilled flesh, slightly curled and golden brown, was fragrantly crispy and delicious with each chew.

Even without salt or other seasonings, it tasted very good to Bai Ren, who had not seen much of the world.

At least, it was much better than the Nutrient Solution and the flavorless energy she knew.

After she had crunched through several pieces, she noticed the two little ones beside her hadn't been eating at all, but were stupidly staring at her.

"?" Bai Ren gave them a puzzled look.

"What are you staring at me for? Eat," she said.

The two kids called out, their cheeks flushing, "Big sister, you go first."

Bai Ren frowned, "Aren't you hungry?"

Just after asking, she heard their stomachs grumbling loudly.

Yo, their stomachs were making such a fuss; how did they restrain themselves from eating?

"Hurry up and eat," she said, not understanding why the silly kids were still foolishly gazing at her.

"There's a distinction between legitimate and illegitimate children; we can't eat together," Bai Sasa obediently replied.

"?????"

The concept of legitimate and illegitimate rushed into Bai Ren's mind, and she impatiently waved off the thought, "When your life is at stake, who cares about distinction? Eat your fill, and drink your fill."

Bai Sasa was so shocked she was left speechless.

Despite being in turmoil and fleeing for three years with great difficulty, their big sister had always insisted on the proprieties of a noble family.

Never once did she neglect the rules that had to be followed.

But today, she suddenly changed, as if she had become a different person. Not only did she save a half-brother, but she also gathered wood, caught a snake, and allowed them to eat together.

Bai Ren, seeing the expressions of Bai Sasa and Bai Lingyu, who looked as dumbfounded as chickens, frowned, "Your sister has had a great realization. From today on, let's just live like ordinary people and head south to live a peaceful life; don't ever speak of legitimate and illegitimate distinction again."

Bai Sasa's eyes reddened while Bai Lingyu outright cried with a loud wail.

Just then, the heavy rain finally started pouring down.

Bai Ren quickly rescued the fragrant snake meat into a tree hollow.

Bai Sasa and Bai Lingyu also awkwardly dragged the firewood into the tree hollow.

And so, the three siblings huddled in the tree hollow, eating snake meat while watching the rainstorm lash out outside.

Bai Ren didn't forget to take out the wild fruit she had picked while gathering firewood earlier from her clothes.
