Chapter 27

I stood frozen, my heart pounding in my chest. The faint noise inside my apartment seemed to grow louder, echoing through the silence. I tried to call out, but my voice caught in my throat. My mind racing, I slowly turned the handle and pushed the door open.

The room was dimly lit, the shadows cast by the flickering lamp dancing across the walls. I scanned the space, my eyes searching for any sign of movement. That's when I saw him. A figure, tall and imposing, standing by the window.

My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met. I tried to step back, but my feet seemed rooted to the spot. The figure didn't move, didn't speak. It just kept watching me, its gaze piercing through the darkness.

I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized I was trapped. The door was still open, but I couldn't bring myself to move. The figure seemed to be waiting for me, its presence suffocating.
