As the dangerous ripple spread across the dojo floor, Kyoji sprang into action. He retreated with surprising speed, putting as much distance between himself and the approaching wave as possible.
Fortunately, the ripple, while menacing, was not particularly fast, and it soon dissipated. Had it been any quicker, Kyoji shuddered to think what might have become of him. He suspected, however, that Instructor Cipher had never intended to cause him actual harm. The ripple was a warning, a clear signal to keep his distance.
Heart still pounding, Kyoji returned to his spot, a deep frown etched on his face. He studied the training room floor. It looked perfectly normal, solid metal, just as it had before.
No one seeing it now would ever believe that this unyielding steel surface had, just moments ago, rippled and flowed like water disturbed by a stone.
'What kind of power was that?' Kyoji wondered, his curiosity battling with his apprehension.
