Duty Science

Kein had no choice but to stand in front of the class until the lesson ended. The hallway in front of his class was very quiet and desolate, except for the science teacher's voice that drowned out the atmosphere of the class. Given that the lesson was in progress, hardly any students had left their classrooms. Noticing a window on the other side of the wall, Kein approached and could see the dormitory courtyard from there.

His brain was completely clear and he was no longer sleepy. Kein intended to thank the teacher despite the punishment he received after repeated warnings. However, it was precisely the current condition that was quiet and never thought about it, Kein immediately took this moment as the right time to complete the daily mission. Before entering or rather while running around in the hallway, he received a notification from the 'system' but ignored it.

Now he was trying to call the 'system' and pointed to a notification that was still stored.

[There is no exercise to train your muscle mass today. You can rest and see you tomorrow on the next day."]

"What? Why is the 'system' suddenly being kind to me? Can this fate repeat itself?" Kein asked with his emotions running high. He still couldn't believe the announcement but he was also happy to hear this news.

This was the first time Kein had been able to rest while he was possessed by the 'system', or rather the temporary news. Because, just as he was celebrating how happy he was to get that notification, the 'system' sent him another message.

Immediately, his face shifted.

[Dribble for 30 minutes.]

[Make 100 layup shots to the hoop.]

"This is much worse! Any professional player wouldn't dribble for that long!"

Kein complained when he learnt that his daily mission, which used to focus on building muscle mass, had now turned into a ruthless coach like Coach Marlon.

The 'system' didn't say anything, still displaying a number of daily missions that were actually quite simple but couldn't be done in such a short period of time.

'What should I do? Do I have to follow these orders and bounce the ball for an hour? Really boring?'

Kein let out a long sigh. Although he had somewhat mastered the basic dribble technique, doing it for an hour was not a trivial matter.

'I'll have to dribble and lay up more often during practice. Whether it's during 5-on-5 games, breaks, or when waiting for other players to arrive. I have to arrive at least fifteen minutes early.' Kein nodded, already deciding how to complete his daily mission.

Both were not difficult for a novice athlete like him and he believed he could complete his daily mission without any problems. Shortly after wrestling with his own thoughts, Kein was startled by the sound of the bell signalling break and lunch. In no more than two seconds, the science teacher in his class opened the door even though he was closer to slamming it.

Her gaze fell on Kein who was standing in front of the window with a frowning face, confused.

"Kein, come here!" the teacher ordered.

Kein spontaneously obeyed without any resistance or running away from her order. "Yes, mum. What is it?"

The science teacher picked up a piece of paper that she had stapled between other papers in her left hand. Handing her a sheet of HVS that had some explanations and problems neatly arranged on it.

"You must complete this assignment in one day. Tomorrow I will wait for you in my room," said the teacher.

Hearing the word 'assignment', already made Kein's body a little weak considering that he had a very hard time understanding science along with his teacher who was not cool. But he still took the sheet and looked from the top to the sheet on the reverse. He immediately opened his eyes as wide as the horizon.

"Before I ask, there's something I want to make sure of. Are all these questions just for me?"

"Sure. That's a silly question after what you did in my class. I don't want to know and I don't accept any excuses. Do them all and turn them in tomorrow! If you're even one minute late, you'll get ten more questions as your next punishment!"

After threatening her students, the science teacher left the classroom with the students. Kein almost pulled the grey hair that was stuck on his head.

"You insolent old fart! There's no way I can solve 30 science problems in one day! She's not crazy, is she?" To add insult to the punishment, Kein didn't even understand anything about the problems because he hadn't heard any explanation from the teacher.

His friends, who saw Kein looking desperate as if his death was imminent, tried to calm him down even though none of them really empathised. But that didn't make Kein stop there. He immediately lifted his head back up after being down for a while.

Looking for the only friend who might be able to help him solve a problem that had very limited time to be solved. Running along the hallway towards the exit of the learning building. In front of the stairs leading to the ground floor, he saw his friend walking casually by herself.

"Sherla, wait!"

Kein ran along the hallway. Locking eyes with the students who were enjoying their break time. The figure of the girl whose name was called, turned to Kein with an angry look.

"Can you not call my name like that? It's embarrassing!" Sherla glared and almost stabbed Kein with her index finger.

"Alright, alright, I know I'm wrong, but I'm really asking for your help. It's a real emergency!" Kein tapped his fingers while slightly looking down, pleading with Sherla.

"Asking for help to complete your punishment and for what you did? No, thank you. Now leave me alone." Sherla resumed walking, and now her left foot was on the step.

Kein managed to train his speed after what he experienced earlier to stop Sherla who was running away from him.

"Say what you want! I'll do what you say as long as you help me solve these damn problems!" Kein pleaded again while showing the sheet filled with problems.

Even the famously intelligent like Sherla had despaired at the sight of that many assignments.
