The Reader And His Prey

"Let me pour you a drink, Chief-Hunter! You did save all of our lives after all," Hans said as he pulled up a few glasses and a bottle of whiskey.

"Thank you, I just did what I had to," I responded with a smile.

He poured a glass for each of us and placed the bottle back in his cabinet.

"To your great deeds!" He brought the glass up.

*Clang.* Our cups touched a toast was made.

"Now, what brings your esteemed self to my small guild?" he asked with a smile.

"I need the services of your guild, I hear it's the best in the capital," | replied, my tone measured.

Hans leaned forward, his eyes narrowing with interest. "And what sort of services might those be?" he inquired, his voice tinged with curiosity. I could tell that his show of 'humility' was false from his expression.

"I need a team for a trip," | stated plainly, my gaze steady.

Hans's lips curved into a thin smile.
