Abandonment

— Alexander POV —

She was my wife now.

She didn't need to protect herself anymore, she had me.

I've always known Lilith was a strong woman, that's what attracted me to her, but that didn't mean she had to be strong all the time.

The church had gone silent the moment I dropped all the bullshit and confronted her parents.

"Like you've been all her life?" A question I ached to ask for years.

I knew their story, I didn't have to be around her to hear my own Grandfather and hers talking about Leonard Durfort.

Where my Grandfather had sent my father away, her parents simply left.

"Now, son—" Leonard Durfort said as he reached out in an attempt to calm me, to talk to me, but I wouldn't have it.

"Do not call me son," I said, glaring at him.

"Alexander…" my wife said as she placed her hand on mine. She looked at me tenderly, some would say lovingly, but I knew Lilith did not love me.
