Chapter 195: The Beginning

Fully understanding the details of the incident helps trigger random tasks and fulfill the conditions for activation. Unfortunately, despite hearing the entire story, there was not much valuable information gathered.

The only details known were the address of the victim's house and some disturbances caused by the monster. The victim, named Reston, had most of his information from his three daughters. The only valuable information he provided himself was the confirmation of the monster's existence and its appearance.

Regrettably, after listening to the story, there was no familiar notification sound of a task being triggered. However, despite not triggering a random task, the information gathered wasn't negligible, providing a rough concept of the situation.

"John, let's switch places. You drive," York said, looking at the thoughtful god of killing in the passenger seat.

"Alright, Father." John Wick got out of the car without hesitation, already having found his role and place within the church.

After switching positions, York sat in the passenger seat and re-questioned based on the information received.

"You saw it in a dim environment, and it disappeared instantly when the light was turned on?"

Reston, now calmer, carefully recalled, "Yes, Father. That was the only time I saw the monster."

He fell silent for a moment before continuing, "I'm mostly out of it every day. If you want to know more, you should ask my wife. She's more coherent than me and knows more."

Seeing Reston fall back into his memories with a pained expression, York shook his head slightly and said, "John, let's go to the address he mentioned."

"Okay," John Wick nodded, starting the car with a hint of anticipation in his heart, curious about what this 'other world' would be like.

"Monster? A demon I've heard of, or something else..."

With these thoughts, the car smoothly accelerated towards the destination. Meanwhile, York revisited the drawing, analyzing the information known.

According to Reston, the monster targeted only their family, was invisible, sneaky, and appeared only at night. Their neighbors and residents didn't believe their story, thinking instead that the death of the three daughters was caused by Reston and his wife, Andi Na. Even the police found no trace of the monster, only suspicious black webs.

"Indeed, a spider-type monster that can shoot webs. All three daughters had accidents at night, and the monster, including Reston, was also spotted at night."

York narrowed his eyes, combining his extensive exorcism experience. He concluded the monster was likely a dark-type, meaning it feared light.

"That's about as much as I can deduce. Should be close enough."

York folded the drawing and glanced at the time on the dashboard. It was already 19:31 – evening. The only thing left to do now was to head to Reston's house to deal with the monster.

"Irene, who's in charge of the event after you left?" York asked, not forgetting to inquire about the charity event that Irene was responsible for organizing.

Irene responded, "Father, I handed it over to Ms. Camille."

"Good."

York nodded, relieved. He trusted Ms. Camille's abilities.

As the car smoothly entered a neighborhood, John suddenly spoke, "Father, it looks like we've arrived."

York instinctively looked out the car window and spotted a distinct standalone apartment, confirming they had reached their final destination. It was notably darker than the surrounding houses, which were brightly lit. It looked isolated, just as Reston had described: everyone shunned them as if they were toxic.

Confirming the speculation, Reston looked up at the isolated house and said, "Father, that's my house."

"John, drive there," York instructed calmly.

"Okay," John Wick steered the car towards the dimly lit house and parked in front of it. York then noticed that the darkness of the house wasn't due to the absence of lights but because it was dimmer compared to the neighboring houses brightly lit with incandescent bulbs. The house emitted the light of candles.

"My wife says the monster seems to fear only sunlight and candlelight, so we usually light candles at night," Reston said bitterly, now fully sober and realizing his failures, leaving everything to his wife while he remained in a stupor.

"Exactly as I predicted, but the mistress has some skills," York remarked, looking at John Wick.

Understanding immediately, John took out two backpacks from the trunk, unzipping them to gear up.

"Irene, please inform the officials responsible for this area," York instructed.

As a deacon nun, Irene had the duty of acting as a messenger, a task typically for a monk. York could have delegated the task to Geoffrey, but now with a deacon nun available, he couldn't take over her responsibilities, which might be misinterpreted and hurtful as it would deny her value.

"Okay, Father."

After responding, Irene started looking up the contact for the supernatural cases officer for the area.

"Father, do you need this?" John Wick, ignoring Reston's expression, held out a military night vision device and asked.

York smiled and bent down, "No, keep it for yourself."

Regardless, technological tools must lead the way before supernatural powers come into play. His personal panel's value points were not sufficient for wasteful use.

He took out a Laine-Bal revolver from another backpack, liking its stability and power.

"I only need this," York stated simply.

John Wick's pupils flickered but continued equipping his preferred weapons.

After checking the Laine-Bal, York continued looking into the backpack for other weapons. For him, using just the Laine-Bal was enough. As for the rest...

York picked up a belt of grenade ammunition and turned to Irene, who had just finished her call.

"Irene."

Surprised again at the sight of the grenade belt, Irene approached.

"Father?"

"This is for you. Put it on."

York smiled, randomly not triggered, trying to ensure everyone had their role.

"Can I follow you, Father?" Irene asked softly as she skillfully attached the belt.

"Of course," York stood up with only the Laine-Bal in hand, casually looking at the house ahead. "You need the training, Irene. Things are different now."
