In fact, as Zane said, except for not being able to leave the Ark, all their requests were met.
No one was stopping them at all.
Even when Rocket demanded his original equipment from the surveillance, a magnetic robot immediately returned the equipment to him.
With a gun in hand, Rocket seemed to have more confidence.
Dragging Groot, who still wanted to go back to the flowerpot, Rocket began to wander around the Ark, looking for a way out.
But after wandering for half a day, Rocket sadly discovered that every exit was heavily guarded by magnetic robots.
Even ventilation ducts were covered with surveillance, making it impossible to leave.
Until a magnetic robot appeared in front of them.
"Please follow me, it's mealtime."
After wandering around aimlessly for half a day, Rocket was also a bit hungry, so he didn't resist.
Resignedly following behind the magnetic robot with Groot, he wanted to see what Zane was up to.
When they arrived at the dining room under the guidance of the magnetic robot, Zane and others were already waiting for them at the table.
"You..."
Impatient as ever, Rocket wanted to ask some questions immediately but was interrupted by Zane.
"Save your questions for after dinner, let's eat first!"
Zane pointed to the chairs specially arranged for Rocket and Groot.
At the dining table, Rocket, full of doubts, nibbled on the luxurious food that was once out of reach for him.
Instead of finding it delicious, he felt a taste akin to wax.
Sometimes, one shouldn't think too much, just like Groot, being a bit clueless is not a bad thing.
Didn't you notice that Groot was happily drinking the high-grade nutrient solution provided by the Skynet?
"I am Groot," Groot said to Zane.
Not understanding what Groot was saying, Zane looked bewilderedly at Rocket.
Rocket, feeling annoyed at Zane's gaze, reluctantly translated:
"This idiot says, 'Thank you, you're a good guy.'"
Zane automatically filtered out the sarcasm in Rocket's words and happily said to Groot:
"You're quite good at judging character!"
With Zane's shameless remark, the awkward atmosphere at the dining table due to the arrival of new guests eased.
People seemed to open up to conversation, and they started asking Rocket and Groot various questions.
After all, Zane and the others were newcomers to the universe, unlike Rocket, who had seen much more.
Zane watched this increasingly harmonious scene with a smile, even the rice in his bowl seemed to taste better.
It must be said that bringing Rocket and Groot here was the right choice, as the atmosphere at the dining table was much livelier than before.
And although Rocket was a stubborn little guy with an impatient face, he proudly answered questions for Skynet and the others.
Even though he used foul language, those who had already understood his character through video didn't mind.
Unconsciously, even Rocket himself didn't realize that a smile had slowly formed on his lips.
Perhaps it was because there were warm meals here unlike the compressed food.
Or perhaps it was because here he didn't have to worry about someone pulling out a gun and blowing his head off at any moment.
Or perhaps it was because here, no one treated him as a mere monster, but as an equal life...
Time is a mysterious force, it can turn people who were once as close as brothers into strangers.
It can also make those who were once wary of each other let down their defenses.
After dinner, Rocket sat dumbfoundedly as he watched Groot play with Lorna and the others.
He didn't even notice when Zane sat down next to him.
They sat like this for who knows how long until Rocket, without turning his head, suddenly spoke.
"Why?"
"Does there have to be a reason?"
Zane looked affectionately at Lorna swinging back and forth on the swing made by Groot's ability, occasionally laughing like silver bells.
Since Rocket and Groot appeared, even Zane hadn't noticed how much more they laughed.
"Uh-huh!" Rocket turned his head, staring seriously into Zane's eyes and nodded.
Zane once again placed his hand on Rocket's head, and this time Rocket didn't push it away.
"Because I find you all likable!"
"Or maybe it's because you remind me of myself before."
Rocket looked at Zane in astonishment, finding it hard to imagine what similarities there could be between himself, a small monster, and Zane, an existence so powerful he seemed unreachable.
Seeing Rocket's confusion, Zane smiled and shook his head without explanation, instead massaging Rocket's head with his hand.
You have to admit, Zane's touch was damn good.
"Rocket, join us!"
Faced with Zane's sudden invitation, Rocket was so shocked he couldn't even close his mouth.
After all, just by looking at Zane and his group, you could tell they were way too powerful.
And he and Groot were just two monsters rejected by society.
This just didn't add up.
But what was even more terrifying than disappointment was having hope given to you only to have it ruthlessly torn away before your eyes.
Rocket was in this dilemma.
After a while, in a deep voice, Rocket said to Zane:
"If I join you, and one day I come across something I really like, but it belongs to someone very troublesome, what would you do?"
After hearing this, Zane's smile remained bright, without even a pause, he replied:
"I'll give you the best gun, the best ship, and let you go take it! And if you can't, come back to me, and I'll help you take it!"
After hearing Zane's answer, Rocket's heart trembled, but he still gritted his teeth and said:
"Then what role do Groot and I play in joining you, cannon fodder? Pets? Or strange collectibles?"
"No, if you're willing, you and Groot can be our family!"
"Family? We're just monsters!" Rocket muttered with his head down, no one could see his expression at the moment.
"Monsters? Look at that panther-like cat over there, and the skeleton frame that's on fire, do you still think you're monsters?"
Zane pointed to Bastis who was scratching leaves off Groot's back, and Little Bone who was pushing the swing behind Lorna.
Bastis pricked up her ears alertly, it seemed someone just said something about her and looked at her beautiful form!
Rocket looked at Bastis and Little Bone, momentarily speechless.
"Alright, now it's my turn to ask you," Zane suddenly became serious.
"What?"
"If a civilization offended me, let's say the Xandarians we're staying with now, could you open fire on innocent Xandarian people? Including the elderly, women, and children!"
"I..."
Rocket was about to say something, but Zane interrupted him.
