Chapter 57: Catch Prey (Part 2)

Seeing Clara's fear and reluctance, Mateo's masculine pride swelled. "I'm not afraid. This animal is fierce, but its meat is the best. The rainy season is coming soon, Cla! We need to stock up on food." 

Right! Besides meat, there wasn't much else to eat here. Clara stood back, and Mateo, with a knotted hemp rope, stood at the edge of the pit, lowering it down. The fur animal in the trap emitted a mournful howl, somewhat resembling the sound of a pig.

But it looked different from the wild animal she had seen before.

The fur animal was quickly pulled up, with its long fangs and large body, displaying strong aggression. Its attack power had been significantly weakened due to a broken hind leg.

Mateo picked up a stone, preparing to kill the animal. "Mateo, don't kill it!" Clara noticed the beast's swollen belly and retreated in fear, wondering if it might be pregnant.
