Chapter 30

"That's cheating, Dio!"

Vanessa said while smiling at him.

"There's no such thing as a fight."

Dio replied and was also smiling.

Vanessa and Dio were in the backyard of the house, and they were training.

They usually did this at A.R.G.U.S. with Diana, but today was the day she would take him for his test, so he got the afternoon off with Vanessa.

But they had been training almost every day for three years, so having the afternoon off felt weird.

This made them bored, so they went back to training.

The backyard isn't very wide, so they were fighting in a Greco-Roman wrestling match, a fighting style that aims to take down their opponent and immobilize them.

Vanessa was teasing him as he used his powers to teleport behind her and take her down. It was just a playful move, and she knew it.

Vanessa has changed a lot since they started hanging out. She returned to her natural blonde hair and let it grow to shoulder length.

She also dropped the gothic makeup style.

She often smiles when she's with me or talking to Diana and her little crush, but they won't talk about that.

That's the most noticeable change in her.

After their little play, they got a bit more serious. They were circling each other with their bodies low and their arms raised.

Then she came to Dio and put her arms around his neck, forcing his head down toward her body.

Dio certainly has more physical strength than her, but he's holding back, making it a battle of pure skill.

Dio tried to break free from her grip by moving backward, but she pulled him back toward her, and her leg went behind him, trying to take him down.

When he felt her leg, he twisted his body to the side, which caused them to fall on the grass. He managed to escape from her.

She jumps on top of him, wrapping her legs around his torso and her arms around his neck like a koala.

Dio twisted his body on the ground, pushed his arms, and made her hit her back on the grass, which made her release him.

Now, it was her turn to try to escape from him, but he held her by the waist and lifted her off the ground.

In the air, he spun her body and then let her go, which caused her to fall backward on the ground. Dio quickly climbed on top of her and held her down.

"What are you two doing?"

Julia asked from the door of the house and looked at us on the ground as they paused their fight.

Dio laughed and got off Vanessa, then extended his hand, which she accepted and helped her stand up.

"We were practicing Greco-Roman wrestling, Mom. You should know that as an expert."

Vanessa replied, her face showing her displeasure toward her mother.

Vanessa not only changed her behavior with him and Diana but also with her mother, but not in a positive way.

Vanessa was keeping some distance from her mother. She wasn't being rude, but she also wasn't treating her like a close relative either.

Julia wasn't expecting her daughter to not give her another chance when she came back from vacation. She was used to that happening every time she left her alone.

Julia tried to make things right with Vanessa, but Vanessa wouldn't give her any more chances.

It made her a little angry with Dio over time as she saw the new bond they had made.

"I've noticed that Vanessa, but do you really need to dress like that?"

Julia continued.

They were both dressed perfectly for sports. She was wearing a sports bra that showed her stomach and black shorts.

She worked out almost every day, which is why she had a beautiful body with good measurements and a bust that wasn't too big.

On the other hand, Dio didn't have a shirt on. He worked out for three years and got to the size of a teenager. He had no fat, and his muscles were well-defined.

Julia's words were clearly aimed at causing trouble.

Dio won't lie and say that Vanessa isn't attractive, but after spending three years training with two of the most attractive women in the DC universe, he is almost immune to attractive women.

"Disgusting, Mom. Dio is my brother."

Vanessa replied, but her face showed that she wasn't happy about what she said.

Just as he had become immune to female beauty, she had become almost immune to his attractiveness.

"Shall we call it a day?"

Dio asked Vanessa.

"Sure, it's almost time for her to arrive."

'She wasn't wrong.'

Dio looked up and saw Diana flying in their direction.

"In fact, she just arrived,"

Dio said it out loud as Diana landed in front of them.

"Dio, Vanessa, and Julia,"

Diana greeted them.

"You arrived quite early, Diana,"

Dio remarked, as there were still two hours left before the agreed time.

"I knew you wouldn't rest like I told you to because I know you. It looks like I was right."

Diana responded.

"Training at this hour has become a habit. I feel uncomfortable if I don't."

Dio explained.

"I feel the same way,"

Diana responded with a smile.

"Diana, where are you taking Dio?"

Vanessa asked, as she was just as curious about the test as Dio.

"I'm taking him to the labyrinth."

Diana answered him and finally revealed the location of his test.

"Labyrinth?"

Both Vanessa and Dio asked in surprise.

Of course, they didn't know what the labyrinth was, but it seems that Julia did.

When Diana mentioned it, her eyes began to sparkle.

"Diana, is the labyrinth really real?"

Julia asked excitedly, with her glasses continuously moving like a nervous tic.

"Yes, my friend, the labyrinth is real."

Diana confirmed and looked at her.

"I would love to see it and study it."

Julia continued.

"I wouldn't advise that. The reason the location of the labyrinth is unknown is that anyone who found it and entered it did not come out alive."

'Now I'm a bit hesitant about this test.'

"And you're taking Dio to that place?"

Vanessa asked and seemed to be worried about him since she was the only one who was worried.

Julia is just disappointed that she can't see the labyrinth.

"I'll be with him the whole time; don't worry."

Diana reassured her.

"Then I'll get ready. I can't let whatever is waiting for me catch me unprepared."

Dio said this and went to the entrance of the house.

"I couldn't describe your test better,"

Diana comments from behind me.

Dio went right to his room to get his equipment. He doesn't have a superhero suit or anything.

The things that Dio uses are a shield, a Xiphos sword, and a Greek breastplate.

He put on the breastplate, which covers his torso, and made it a perfect fit for his body.

Dio strapped the circular shield, the same bronze color as his armor, to his back and secured his sword.

Before leaving, he almost forgot his latest creation, a belt, a more magical version of Batman's utility belt, it was created with expansion magic in the pockets.

The space isn't very big—just a few inches—but that's far enough for now.

The black police-style belt had a few small holes around it.

It didn't match with the sword and armor, but Dio will think more about how it looks when he creates his hero outfit.

Dio jumped out of the window and walked to the back of the house, where the three women were still waiting.

"Ready?"

Diana asked him.

"Let's go."

There were no farewells.
