Chapter 188

"No way, if I eat for free this time, what if next time I am not allowed in?" Elisa immediately canceled the idea of dining and dashing.

"Um, are you here for a job interview?" Nicole asked gently when she saw the girl mumbling to herself for some time.

"Huh?" Elisa abruptly turned her head and saw five people in front of her, all curiously looking at her.

Elisa blinked her green eyes in confusion. What's going on? There were so many people around her and she didn't even notice. When did my vigilance get so bad? Is life here too comfortable? Or do I think there's no danger in this city?

"What's wrong?" Nicole looked at the dazed girl and asked softly, "Is there a problem?"

"Huh?" Elisa snapped out of it, quickly shaking her head and saying softly, "I'm here for a job interview."

"Then come in." Nicole said, pulling out a key from her pocket and opening the store door. She let Lucas enter first before allowing the others in.

"Wow, this layout is pretty good."

Lucas was surprised by the decoration of the pizza place. It was a bit unexpected—though it had a feminine touch, it was simple and elegant.

"It's based on the design drawings given by the young master, with some additions that everyone likes." Nicole said with a beaming smile.

"I can tell." Lucas nodded. The large lollipop pattern on the wall was clearly created by Annie.

And those big cow horns on the counter—though used for hanging things—were oversized. This must be Ayesha's touch.

As for the tables, the tops were decorated with pairs of cat eyes, with a "dazed" expression that looked quite clueless, which must be Mina's design, given the additional small fish patterns.

Finally, there were the ceramic mugs, which had a pair of bunny ears on the rim. Lucas couldn't help but twitch at the sight. Bunny-eared designs are always so unique.

"Master, look at the lollipop pattern. Isn't it beautiful? I painted it myself." Annie said, pulling Lucas in front of the large lollipop mural with a look that seemed to demand praise.

"It's fantastic. Everyone will love it," Lucas patted Annie on the head and added, "Next time, you could paint something for your room."

"Really?" Annie's eyes lit up.

"Really. Next year, the castle will be renovated, and you can design your own room." Lucas said with a gentle smile.

He planned to introduce some modern facilities into the castle, at least running water—he was tired of fetching water with a bucket.

"Yay." Annie jumped with joy and immediately found a table to note down some design ideas, like the lollipop pattern.

Lucas sat across from Annie, motioned for Mina to join him, and the cat-eared girl obediently took a seat next to him. Everything seemed so natural.

Ayesha sat beside Annie, and the three watched Annie sketch and write, leaving Elisa looking confused.

What's going on? Elisa felt ignored. She recognized Lucas as the lord of the city. Up close, he seemed unusually harmonious with the beastkin, which was quite unexpected.

Elisa now realized that this oddly named store was run by these beastkin girls, including two she had followed to a bank before.

She remembered she still had a banknote with over 900 copper coins. Should she cash it out and enjoy a meal?

"Hmm…" Elisa sighed, deciding to keep her banknote for now. She didn't want to spend it just yet.

"What's your name?" Nicole asked, turning to her.

"I'm Elisa."

"I'm Nicole, one of the managers. Please follow me to the kitchen; I need to test your skills." Nicole said, leading Elisa to the back where the kitchen was.

"Okay." Elisa followed Nicole obediently.

A short while later, Elisa emerged wearing an apron, carrying a tray with four cups of water.

"Guests, here is your water," Elisa said gracefully, placing the cups down and giving a polite nod before returning to the kitchen.

"This girl is something else." Mina's eyes narrowed. She noticed that it was unusual for someone to be so composed in front of the young master.

"There are many extraordinary people. Maybe she's just looking for a job. Let her be, but keep an eye on her." Lucas said calmly.

The recruitment notice itself was designed with traps, including literacy and etiquette requirements, making it clear that candidates would be more than ordinary, possibly nobles or special talents.

In reality, Nicole wasn't strictly following the notice's requirements. The goal was to try and find someone suitable; if not, they'd pull staff from the castle. It was surprising that someone actually came.

"Understood." Mina responded, noting to observe discreetly.

"Observe her for a few months. If she proves reliable, let her work in the castle." Lucas said.

He added to Annie, "There are still too few literate people in the castle, and the workload will only increase. You should interact with her and evaluate her character."

"Understood." Annie knew this was to help her manage the growing workload.

Of course, except for yesterday—after learning card games, she had spent the whole day playing with Nicole and Ayesha in Nicole's room, completely forgetting her official duties. Today, she had a lot of catching up to do.

Elisa had no idea that her background had already been partially revealed. Enthusiastically, she followed Nicole, making pizzas and kneading dough.

"Don't add too much water… Huh? You've put in too much flour…" Nicole instructed while kneading the dough.

"Got it." Elisa wiped her nose, leaving a white flour mark, and continued to roll out the dough carefully.

"Very good, this looks nice," Nicole praised, "But next time, don't add too much meat."

"I'll try my best." Elisa was completely absorbed in the joy of pizza making.

After half an hour of effort, the pizzas came out of the oven, their rich aroma of dough and meat almost making Elisa drool.

The irresistible smell convinced Elisa to work at this place.
