Chase blood

"I have a business meeting, and I need a partner. As I have said earlier, you are the perfect fit," Alexander said, making Evangeline look at him before she rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, after all, you have to behave in front of others, and in front of me you can show your true face, this face that knows to tease and bully me," Evangeline scoffed.

"Well, what can I say, I can only show my true face to people I am comfortable with. And I just don't know why but I feel comfortable with you, the kind of comfort where I won't hesitate to kill a person in front of you and fear you judging me," Alexander smirked.

"You won't judge me, right?" He looked at the girl from the corner of his eyes, loving how she was gritting her teeth in anger and frustration.

"Why are you not saying anything? Do you not like it -"

"Mr. Alexander, how many cars do you travel with when you travel? Do you prefer jeeps?" Evangeline asked, her gaze fixated on the side mirror of the car, and Alexander narrowed his eyes.

He relaxed his knitted brows and looked behind the car through the rearview mirror and sighed.

"Someone's got a tail on us," He said as if that was the most normal thing to him.

"Do you love action movies, Evangeline?" Alexander asked, and Evangeline looked at him before sighing. His words were a clear indication of what was happening here.

"If anything happened to my face in whatever useless railing fighting, goons following or kidnapping scenario is this, I will kill you with my bare hands," Evangeline huffed before leaning back and closing her eyes.

To say Alexander was amazed by the calmness this girl was showing would be an understatement.

Any normal girl would be freaking out and screaming at him to do something, but what was she doing? She was sitting there as if they were going to some kind of park rather than being chased by the goons.

Then again, it's because she is not like the other girls that she is sitting in the car with him right now, right?

Alexander grabbed her hand, making her eyes open wide as she looked at him in surprise.

"As you said, let me keep you safe and protect your face," He said, pulling her in his lap, hiding her face in his chest, and Evangeline, who was still shocked, felt her heart skipping a beat when she smelt that same intoxicating scent and gulped.

"Mr. Alexander, are you out of your mind? Don't you think you are putting my life in bigger danger just by hugging me, I mean, by sitting in this obnoxious position," Evangeline commented, and Alexander hummed.

"I don't think so. As long as you are in my arms, I won't let anything happen to you," Alexander said without thinking twice, and Evangeline's heart skipped a beat again. She looked up into his eyes, who was already looking down at her.

No. She can't slip away like this. Being protected by him wasn't the thing she wanted. She wants to execute her revenge.

"No matter what you say, I will never trust you, Mr. Alexander. I committed a sin trusting someone with my life before, and I ended up in an ocean," Evangeline said before she pushed herself away from Alexander.

Her words shocked Alexander. He didn't know if what she said was entirely true, or if she was joking just for the sake of it.

As soon as Evangeline moved out of the way, a gunshot echoed, and the sound of glass breaking echoed in the car, making it screech as the driver tried his best to dodge the bullets and save his master.

Because of the impact of the turn, their bodies hit the car door, and Evangeline groaned in pain before she scrunched her nose, rubbing her head to ease the pain.

It was a familiar smell, the smell of - Evangeline turned to her side and noticed blood dripping from Alexander's left biceps.

"Save my face, my ass. Are you okay?" Evangeline asked, horrified.

"Do I look okay to you, Evangeline?" Alexander groaned before he patted the back seat of the driver.

"Take out the gun. Let me distract them. It's quite unexpected for them to attack us in the middle of a busy road. The cops will catch onto them soon," Alexander said, and Evangeline bit her lips.

"Can you trust me to drive the car?" Evangeline asked, and Alexander narrowed his eyes.

"I am not trusting you with -"

"Look, I care about my life a lot. I have many big ambitions, and I want to make my parents proud. I got into this thing because is you, the least you can do is let me decide how I want to die. Of course, I will drive to live and not save someone. When it's about your life, you know you do your best. That's why, trust me," Evangeline said, and Alexander hummed at the driver through the rearview mirror.

The driver increased the speed before stopping it with a screech, and he got out of the car. Evangeline didn't waste a second jumping in the front seat.

"Get inside quickly!" Evangeline shouted, and before the driver could close the door, she sped.

"Miss Evangeline, are you trying to get us killed?" The secretary shouted while Alexander looked behind the car and tried to shoot the car.

"Keep the car stable. Let me shoot," Alexander said, and Evangeline hummed before slowing the car a little.

Alexander shot the driver of the car, making it screech before it halted, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

However, their relief was cut short when they saw two more cars coming from behind the car that Alexander stopped.

"Damn it!" Alexander groaned, his hand already killing him and Evangeline looked at him from the rearview mirror, their gaze meeting for a minuscule second.

"Will you be able to hold it in for ten minutes? I'll take you to the nearest hospital,"

"No! Take me to my home. That's the most secure area for me," Alexander said.

"But you are bleeding. How will you -"

"Stop using your brain and just do as I am telling you to do, Evangeline," Alexander said through gritted teeth, and she slammed her foot on the gas peddle again.

"I swear I have never met a man as annoying as you," Evangeline roared.

"Well, guess what? It's good. You are not going to meet a man like me ever. I am the only piece,"

"A defective piece,"

"Far better than an annoying piece," Alexander seethed through his teeth, and Evangeline glared at him before turning the car.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Alexander groaned when his body was slammed into the side of the car.

"I am neither fucking, nor kidding you," Evangeline said, and the secretary looked at the two grown mature adults fighting like kids when their lives are at risk.

After driving like crazy for ten minutes since the goons left when the cops' sirens blared, they finally reached their destination and stood in front of the society gates of the richest area in the province.

"Open the door. Call the doctor. Sir is shot," The secretary shouted, and Evangeline's eyes widened when she noticed so many men dressed in black immediately rushing out with heavy guns in their hands.

"The fuck is this!" Evangeline said out aloud, and Alexander groaned in pain and frustration. The bullets weren't normal.

Damn it!
