Countless Doors

The large figure of the building was getting bigger as I kept getting closer to it. I can hardly contain my excitement, to the point it only took 15 minutes for me to reach the building.

The first thing that I noticed is the bodies. All around the building, there were bodies of both men and women. It littered the place, to the point that no matter which side you look, there were dozens of corpses.

I checked on the corpses and noticed that their cause of death varied. Some had their lower or upper half removed as if a monster has eaten them, others looked like they had been sliced in half, while some looked like they fell from a high place.

The second thing I noticed was the lack of windows in this building. There was only a single wooden door in the front, and that was it.

Clearly, something is off here. The corpses here suggest that this place probably isn't as safe as it seems- not that it looked safe, anyways.

But without any care in the world, I went to the door and lightly grabbed the doorknob. It wasn't safe, I know, but this is the only different thing I've encountered in the entirety of my time here.

I do not want to stay in this sea of blood.

It was boring. That really was the only reason. I'm not afraid of death, not in the least. If I encounter a beast and die in a fight against it while giving it my all?

I wouldn't mind.

Besides, my arm is itching.

I calmly calculated all the possibilities and took into account how these people died.

A monster that can eat a person in half, or a strong swordsman, or falling from a high place, and many, many other calculations.

I brought out my sword and strengthened my grip on it.

Slowly, I turned the doorknob and opened the door, only to reveal a vast darkness inside of it.

I couldn't see anything inside, it was just pitch darkness. Even when the sunshine lit the building, the light that reached inside of the room didn't light anything. Was this a bottomless pit, or what?

I carefully poked the room's ground with my sword and found out it was solid. It's not a pit, so there's that. Still, even the rays of the sun couldn't light the room up, not even a bit.

I have a sneaking suspicion of what this is, so my grip on the sword became stronger and carefully entered the room.

...?!

The pitch black darkness suddenly disappeared, and I found myself mid-air, hundreds of meters above ground, and I was accompanied by a sight of an endless, boundless sea.

The sea of blood.

This was one of the possibilities I had predicted. A few of the corpses on the ground looked like they fell off of a high place and were crushed. Although my calculation is a bit off, since I didn't expect the door to actually teleport me or something.

Still, I didn't let my surprise hinder me. I glanced behind me and saw that building was right behind me, a few inches away from me. And, more importantly, there was a door, a wide-open door.

Before I even fell for half a meter, with inhumane speed and strength, I thrust the sword at the building, piercing the concrete material easily hooking myself to the building, effectively stopping my fall.

After making sure the sword didn't move or become loose, I let out a silent sigh. Turning my head to the ground, I was rather confused by the height that I was at.

Was the building always this tall? I'm hundreds of meters above ground, and I can vividly remember the building not being this tall, only a hundred meters at most. When I looked up, I noticed that there wasn't even a roof. The building just stretched endlessly into the sky.

Whatever kind of sorcery was this, I didn't let it bother me-

Sorcery? Ah, it happened again. I don't even know what it means, but It somehow seemed to fit this situation.

I turned my attention towards the wide open door half a meter above me, and with great strength, I managed to grab the edge of the door. After feeling that the ground inside was solid, I tightly strengthen my grip on it.

This place isn't normal if that wasn't obvious already. Could this place really just be made to kill people?

I wouldn't be surprised, to be honest. Regardless, I need to get to the ground, and this door should technically bring me back. I pulled the sword from the wall of the building, and with my great strength, I managed to easily climb to the door with one arm.

After climbing up, I let out another sigh and turned my attention toward the inside of the door.

Pitch darkness, just like before. I was only a few inches inside the room, so it didn't transport me, thankfully.

I cleared my thoughts of any distractions and focused greatly. I don't know what kind of sorcery this place has, and this door could very well lead me to a different place than the front door at the bottom.

After calculating the possibilities once more, which now rose astronomically because of the variable that is the sorcery of this place, I gripped my sword tightly and entered the room.

...?

I was greeted with a different sight this time. I couldn't see the blood-red sea, and neither was I in the air once more. Rather, It seemed I was in a rather long hallway, and the ground was made of wood. There was a lot of furniture. Some desks, some bookshelves, and others were just wooden boards that were somehow floating.

However, what piqued my interest the most were the walls.

Doors.

There were countless doors everything on the wall. Even on the ceiling, there were doors. It wasn't like they were neatly lined, latched onto the ground- no, there were doors even in the middle of the wall, a few feet above the ground.

I didn't let my guard down and immediately anticipated any danger that was to come.

But alas, nothing happened. Still, I didn't sheathe my sword. I turned around, and realized there wasn't a door this time.

I turned my attention back to the countless doors in the hallway, and slowly went towards one of the doors and opened it. Unlike before, it wasn't a pitch-black darkness.

Rather, It showed me where the door leads. It was a city, a dark and depressing-looking city, filled with fog. It was similar to the Victorian era, but immensely more depressing and cramped with buildings.

Victorian era? Hah, again...

Regardless, the buildings' windows showed that there were people inside of them. Although I couldn't exactly see their features or anything, since it was dark, and I could only see their silhouettes due to the light shining from inside the rooms.

Despite its depressing looks, I really wanted to go there, but I quickly decided against it. This could very well just be a trap. This place isn't exactly forgiving, evident by the corpses outside of the building, and the fact it tried to kill me just a few moments prior.

I closed the first door and went to the door next to it, latched onto the middle of the wall.

When I opened it, the sight of a red-tinted sky greeted me. Looking at the ground from the door, I noticed the blood-red sea. This was the same place I was about to fall onto my door, in other words, this should be the door I should've come from. Though, I obviously haven't appeared from it. Regardless, this place is weird, so I closed the door.

And then, I went to another door. And another, and another...

...

It took quite a bit of time, but I managed to almost open all the doors except for the ones on the ceiling. Every door leads to a different, unique place. Sometimes it seemed to lead to a green plain filled with animals, or a dark alley with a basket on the ground stained with blood, and filled with boxes of matches. Or a scene of a forest, and on the ground was a rotten apple that had a bite taken from it.

They were all fascinating, to me at least. Even in the most depressing places, I wanted to enter them. Of course, I decided against it.

"Hehehehe..."

...?

After closing the final door, I heard a rather creepy, muffled laughter echoing through the hallway. I turned my head toward the source of the sound. I walked forward, and turned a corner, only to meet another hallway, but it was smaller than the previous one, and there was only one door at the end of it.

"Ah, splendid, splendid!"

The sound came from inside that room, I'm sure of it. And it was disgusting, as if it was laughing while eating something. I could smell something coming from inside the room.

The scent of blood.

"Hmm..." I let out a hum before walking towards the door, my sword still in my hand.

Laughter still came from the door as I kept getting closer to it.

It was strange, this laughter, and the scent of blood, all of that spells danger. I should be horrified, and yet, I feel excited. As if my body was itching to fight, even if I might die.

I feel like a perverted bastard.

Slowly, I grabbed the doorknob and opened the door. This time, it didn't lead me to a different world, and it wasn't pitch black either. Rather, it actually led me to a real room.

The scent of blood became more powerful, but I was already used to it. I walked through that sea of blood for god knows how long, after all.

The room was quite large, and there was furniture everywhere, and there were bloodstains everywhere. The ground and even the walls were stained with blood.

But that wasn't the important part, but what was in the middle of the room.

Corpses. Three corpses were laying on the ground. One of them had his head lopped of and his arms cut off, while another had his chest open, but his heart and lungs weren't there. And the final one only had a torso and a head, all of his limbs were torn off.

And standing over them was a tall, freakish, black humanoid creature. But what was even more surprising about its features was the white bunny ears it had.

"Hmm~?"

The freakish monster lazily turned around and stared dead into my eyes, chewing on human flesh.
