"What about demon blood?"
Olivia found it strange that Jack had many questions about demons, considering he had lost his memory, but she just tossed it off to the curiosity of a kid.
"Demon blood is used for enhancements, they allow the user to obtain unique abilities but unfortunately for you, they are extremely rare, considering that just a single dose can go up to 500 billion"
Jack turned into a confused mood as he continued to wonder if this was even the same he had previously lived in.
"Well, I can understand it's rareness but the only ones that can use them are the ones that killed them, isn't that right?"
"Hmm, no, that might have been the case in the past but by mixing the demon blood with some rare materials, anyone can obtain its powers...It seems you have some fragments of your memory"
"I guess..."
At this point, Jack couldn't tell anymore. If this was his world, or if it was another. He had really no way to know.
The doors to the room opened, and a man in a lab coat entered together with a nurse by her side. And wearing a mask of confidence, he sat in the chair next to Jack, not before checking a clipboard, he had by his side.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Henry Martinez, you are Jack, I presume?"
"Yeah"
He spoke in a calm voice and gave an air of a free spirit, but Jack found him annoying. Thirty minutes had already passed since Jack arrived, and not once did this man greet Olivia, or introduce his assistant.
Nevertheless, seeing as though Olivia wasn't even bothered by the situation, Jack decided to let it slide.
"So you came here because...?"
"He lost his memory, that is why I brought him here."
"I see...Then we should move onto the fourth floor instead, as I see that you are not a demonic human"
*
The following test on the fourth floor, a more suitable and advanced floor, showed that Jack had nothing wrong in his head, so they couldn't exactly pinpoint why, Jack had lost his memory.
Olivia on the other hand, seemed to have more of an annoyed expression instead of a glad one, after hearing the results of the tests.
'All of this for nothing.'
"Anything else, that you seemed to have an issue with?", The doctor asked as it was in the procedure. Olivia was already starting to leave, seeing as the tests were done, however, sadly for her, Jack needed to ask some questions of his own.
"Yes"
Olivia flinched. Stopping and letting out a big sigh.
"What is it? Could it be because you have a hangover or because you have some issues after smoking or doing some drugs?"
Sounding annoyed, the doctor spoke in a malicious tone, for no apparent reason. However, once Jack turned his face to Olivia's, she only saw her shrug at the situation.
"Rude but whatever...I just haven't been able to sleep for the past four days."
"Eh?"
It wasn't the doctor who was surprised but it was Olivia the one that found herself with her Jaw dropped.
Rushing forward like before, Jack found himself almost smacking her in the face once again. The unusual tension he felt at the moment, however, wasn't the same aggressive feeling as before, instead, it showed excitement and surprise.
"You are an Aspect already? I thought you were just a candidate. Oh my god, that must be why you lost your memories, it must be because of that."
"Aspect?"
No answer, instead Jack received another abduction and an awkward ride through the elevator, before reaching their car at the front of the public institution.
"Where are we going? And can you answer my questions?"
"Wait, just wait"
In the end, it took Olivia ten minutes in her car before she arrived at what seemed to be a huge rectangular building with no life.
Going into the basement, Olivia parked her car in her previous spot and dragged the sleepy Jack inside for no apparent reason. Taking him into the elevator and going up to the highest floor. Jack at this point didn't even seem to care anymore as he just pulled out a can of bear from his dimensional bag only for it to be taken away by Olivia.
"If you are going to drag me around, at least let me drink"
"No, we are currently going to meet the headmaster of the Holy Academy."
"I'm an atheist"
Ignoring his rude statement, Olivia just proceeded to yank him into the fanciest corridor Jack had ever seen, filled with paintings, a red carpet, and many antiques placed as decorations all through the long hallway.
Arriving in front of what Jack could only describe as a gate, Olivia knocked as if it was going to do something, only for it to immediately open as Jack found himself in wonder. Inside the room, however, it was nothing but elegant or even magnificent. If Jack had to compare it with something, it would be the same office he had while in the second division.
Entering the room, Olivia sat Jack on the sofa and an attendant suddenly appeared like a shadow and served some tea to the both of them.
Whilst a maid then proceeded to bring in some deserts.
However, Jack found himself confused. As there was no one in this room, apart from the both of them and the ninja maids. It was then that a screen suddenly appeared in the middle of the room.
On the screen, an old man with short white hair and a small beard, smiled as he greeted his abrupt visitors.
[Well, if it isn't Olivia and...?]
"Jack Whitlock"
[Haha, that's a fitting name...So anyways, what brings you into my office?]
"So headmaster, do you see Jack here?"
[Yeah?]
"He is an Aspect"
[Oh? Hohoho, that is amazing]
Interrupting their joyful conversation was Jack still trying to find the answer to his question. "What is an aspect?",
"Ah, he lost his memories due to his awakening so he doesn't remember anything about his past."
[Oh, I see...It must have been hard dealing with Olivia.]
"...You tell me that?... I was dragged all the way here against my wishes."
[Hahaha, don't hold a grudge against her...Then anyways, an Aspect is someone that has been blessed by the gods with divine power. Seeing the dark circles under your eyes, it seems you have yet to sleep, isn't that right, Jack?]
"Finally, someone with common sense, to answer someone's questions...And yes, your assumption is correct."
[Well, the reason for that is simple. It is because you have yet to overcharge yourself.]
"Overcharge?"
[Every Aspect receives the power to utilize an essence called holy magic. Currently, your body isn't used to the holy magic inside, making you stay awake as it constantly heals your body. So you must first exhaust it or you can also stay awake for seven days and you will most likely pass out.]
"I see...Then how do I use this so-called holy magic?"
[Think of the word "Status"]
"Status?"
[Name: Jack Whitlock]
[Rank: Aspect]
[Class: Paladin]
[Attributes: [Fearless], [Unforgiving], [Tired]]
[Blessings: -]
[Conquers: -]
[Skills: [Taunt]]
[Soul Weapons: -]
Jack flinched. As his head snapped trying to react to the sudden appearance of a board similar to a hologram that appeared before his eyes.
"Oh?"
[Hahaha, that was quite the funny sight...Before you do anything, I should remind you of one thing. Others aren't able to see your status, however, it is best if you keep everything apart from your rank hidden. If someone asks for your class just tell me either frontline, damage dealer, magic user, or support.]
"Don't worry, I'm not planning on continuing attending the academy or whatever I can use these powers for."
[...]
The moment Jack said those words, the room fell silent, not a sound could be heard apart from Jack lifting his teacup taking a sip, and putting it down. Olivia, on his side also couldn't help but take a deep breath.
However, the headmaster wondered for a moment and asked a question instead.
[...I wonder if something weighs heavy on your mind, Jack?]
Giving his already familiar death stare to the headmaster, Jack found it interesting that such a man was still smiling wholesomely even after seeing his face. Not bothering to act anymore, Jack proceeded to pull out a cigarette, Olivia tried to stop him but the headmaster said it was fine.
"...I will tell you a story...In the distant past, a hero earned his name after doing an impossible task. Many followed the hero in hopes of achieving such highs, only for them all to perish while in the hero's sight. The hero no different from the able man, saw the disgust of the day, and finding himself wanting for change he walked towards a new path. However, his wish was tarnished and his father and mother were killed. Nevertheless, the man didn't give up, doing his best to survive every day, leaving more of his men behind to die by either escaping or fighting to demise. The hero then became stable, finding himself a great friend that would walk by his side on the arduous journey. And on the day that the hero was finally going to accomplish what he wished for..."
[What happened?]
"His best friend died, right in front of his eyes, and the hero was broken down, not being able to accomplish what he wished for, once again and never again."
[...]
"So moral of the story? The hero felt burdened by the hopes of the many men that followed behind him, blaming himself for their deaths, foolish indeed but that is what he felt. However, even after many attempts to make a change he only continued to fail, as more bodies piled up behind his back. The hero found himself tired of his new path, instead feeling more like he deserved to die."
