"What's happening to Vida?! Why are we still at war?!" I heard a protest leader declaim from some kind of makeshift podium as we passed. "Why send our children to their deaths?!"
The roar of the crowd drowned out what little military presence there was left in the vicinity as we walked past yet another cell of protesting. The few guards I managed to spot were practically quaking in their boots as they just watched the commotion happen from the sidelines. Poor them... too powerless to even try and quell the unrest happening right in front of them... Not that I really cared, however.
"Hey!"
A shoulder stopped me in my tracks, Lise freezing behind me as a brave guard stood right beside me. My heart pounded, my anxiety shooting through the roof despite having already come to terms that this exact same scenario was bound to happen eventually.
