Chapter 6: Pirates

First, we shall do a recruitment report today. In this week that has passed, I recruited 1 unit of 120 ottoman infantry. this unit will be recruited every week from Canakkale to make up the bulk of our elite forces. This unit is great for slaughtering the more average units and can hold up against the heavier infantry units.

But there aren't going to be many situations where this unit will be facing up against a unit far superior to them simply because this unit is the best infantry crusher, and it is cost-effective! Soon when the castles and cities are upgraded more, we can get a Varangian guard and heavier calvary which will bring out the real power of my system. every week or 2 weeks churning out elite-trained men!

Ottoman Infantry:

Ottoman Infantry is hardy soldiers, well-armed and well armored, they fight with both bows and swords, allowing them to pepper the enemy with arrows and then move into melee to finish them off. Their armor, and combat training, mean that this unit can hold its ground in a close-up fight.

Also recruited was one unit of grand bombards which is an early version of cannons not the most accurate but shoot giant projectiles! and when they connect they will blow a human to mush meat if the walls aren't extremely sturdy go through them or leave cracks to exploit with more common siege weaponry or use vinegar to wear down the structural integrity and boom the walls come crashing down. Plus, they will scare the hell out of any soldier after they hear these beasts roar on a battlefield or siege and see someone next to them disappear as if he never existed.

This is the only unit I have seen that has been modified to fit the world... The cannon in the game comes with two cannons but here it comes with 5 cannons and the accompanying crew. which frees up a lot of space for me to recruit more and speed up my expansion. from nearly a yea...

Oh my, this is the best day ever! I wanted to know how the system would represent the general system... But given as a reward is fine, I must achieve great things anyway! Also, the mercenaries are finally here I needed auxiliary forces! But the best reward is the general's bodyguard by far my safety is the most important and this ensures at least no one can strong-arm their way through my guard and kill me.

These bodyguards will play a great role in not just my protection but on the battlefield, as a fully armored horse unit they are practically tanks in this era. These men will be completely loyal to me letting me drop my guard a bit since I arrived here.

But we must figure out how to use these upgrades I am not sure I should use them yet. I want to use these on a real system settlement where I can recruit more units per turn. But being able to recruit better units could help immediately. And I could buy myself time to build up any settlement by having a strong army as a deterrent to any would-be enemies.

But let's talk about that later, I have managed to pull a lot of Turkish tribes and city people over to my sanjak. This conquest and the loot I pulled from this conquest was 20000 plus golden coins and the biggest loot is the citizens from Gallipoli. I will be moving the locals to Abydos and leaving only a few thousand to work on reusing the Gallipoli walls to make a sea fortress and a well-defended port not allowing anything to pass through this strait without paying us or telling us their plans for traveling through this area.

But I managed to bring 14,000 citizens from Gallipoli and the unimportant surrounding towns to Abydos and Canakkale. Making these two fiefs eligible for the upgrade reward. But I also need to mention the horde of Turks that are currently making their way to Abydos to pledge loyalty to me in return for me leading them to glory and loot.

But they also want me to provide their tribe land to make their home. But I am thinking of asking the more militant tribes to support me in the borders and new lands and the less militarily inclined tribes to either boost Turkic numbers in the new cities in the future or live in Abydos and surrounding areas until then.

But the problem with tribes is also the good thing about them. The fact they all move together troops and women, and children do not sit well with me. If I could somehow trim away the woman and children and make highly mobile military camps of men who will create trouble for my enemies for free on my end while also sending me to loot that is what I desire.

But women and children play an integral role in these tribes, so it is really hard to tell them to split or to leave their families here in Abydos and go make war... Idk because the population they bring can be a big boost to me and my fief, the children can learn and train in the various places in the city and the woman can work in the new workshops I will be starting.

Well, I have to think it through, for now, let's think of something even more critical... My father the sultan has called me back to Bursa he will congratulate me on my conquest. But what I am worried about is not necessarily my father but my brother who also led their armies under the sultans' flag.

I wonder if this brother of mine or some court authority will be greedy for the conquests I have made and bring up to my father that their armies can achieve greater results and bring greater glory to the state. But the worst but maybe the better outcome would be the sultan himself wanting to participate in the conquests.

I would not be totally against this... I just think the throne will be mine so all the troops my father holds are also my troops and with this piece, in the central lands of the state the army will grow as well as the population so all these things will eventually fall to me so why waste them when I can achieve the same results with less!

While also improving my army mind you every battle my armies gain experience and every time their experience reaches the next level their battle potential grows their attack will go up a point and the defense sometimes improves as well this is just too crucial to have some greedy court thieves ruin it.

"My prince, shall I get the ships ready for your return to Anatolia?" A servant said outside my door.

"No, not just yet! call for Mehmet, Evrenos Bey, and Zengin Koca to see me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!" I said showing the importance of this order.

Then I made my way to the throne room in the governor's mansion... not too long later my servants arrived and greeted me with anticipation because it was clear they are thinking of further conquest ha-ha I like that attitude fellas!

"Mehmet do you want to be my general? And lead troops into battle in your lord's name?" I asked with a questioning gaze.

on bended knees, Mehmet replied "My lord my life is yours such a gift! I shall destroy all the foes who dare to defy the lord!"

"Evrenos Bey, do you want to lead troops into battle in your lord's name?" I again asked with a questioning gaze.

"My lord I was raised to lead men into the fields of battle, and I couldn't be more excited than to destroy foes under your banner," Evrenos said to me with a look of expectation in his eyes I like the excitement he shows ha-ha!

"So, I want to take care of the pirates now that the Byzantines are not moving against us, I think this is the best time to strike what do you all think?" I asked.

"My lord I also wanted to inform you the pirates have indeed docked not too far away less than half a day's ferry by boat they also have not shown any defensive posture they do not expect an attack from such a strong force" Zengin Koca my loyal spy responded first leading to me asking.

"Oh, that is just amazing what are their exact numbers?"

hmm, so these units are practically a military force I am sure these men are privateers! Or I think they are called Corsairs in this period. These men different from pirates work their ravages more selectively, armed with government authorization to attack merchant's vessels and seize merchant cargo belonging to political and economic rivals of the state that licensed them. Well, that is in theory but as the saying goes "We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy when others are fearful" in other words, these men will act submissive to the greedy men who licensed them, but they will turn to wild wolves when they see prey. These men will defiantly with their numbers have to do side work there is no way they can only target opposing fleets and have enough coin to employ such a force!

But I do not care what they do because the benefit of wiping this fleet out or having them bend the knee is just too much to look away from... plus sooner or later these men would've entered my radar and would've eventually found their graves at the bottom of the sea with their ships!

The next morning, we are on our ships heading to the cape called St. George just outside of my new territory. Just cross a small river and you can find the abandoned village and big shift port they made to house their ships. Truly it's pretty smart that they are definitely in an area where not many would find them, but I am not in that group one of my spies was assigned to train more spies his main job was to find these pirates and their base. He said it was not too hard considering these men must eat, so he sent some men to grease some palms at the more famous ports including Gallipoli where they ended up finding a few pirates and their vessels docked here a month ago looking to restock their food supplies. From there it was simple just follow these men etc...

Our plan is simply a two-pronged attack! I sent Mehmet on foot with our new troops including the new general guards who are free as long as you have a general to guard so we got 3 units mine being the largest being 100 men and horses, followed by Evrenos has 70 men and Mehmet has a guard of only 65 men but that's still pretty good each one is equivalent to nobles trained from birth! But we have Mehmet leading the ground forces which is the guard and the new cannon the great bombards and the unit called ottoman infantry plus the Hasham and byzantine lancers. All the phalanxes were left to guard the border fortress with the horse archers and the local Qapukulu unit.

Our entire navy was brought the same ships as before except we have 10 more modified Dhows for a total of 63 ships The flagships stay the same Me and Evrenos am on one of them and this ship will be considered the only flagship today and all orders will come from us here! Well, Evrenos will take the lead I have no experience or knowledge of medieval naval battles I only gave some advice about line warfare which gives full play to the hull side cannons and allows all ships to fire at the enemy, but this depends on how the port looks.

(For those who forgot this is the navy! But a change was made There were only 8 lanternas listed last time but I recruited 1 a week in Abydos and all infantry units were recruited at Canakkale mistake on my end -Author)

We arrived in the area earlier than the foot troops. Just after we silently coasted near their port blocking any attempt at escape before their lookouts could respond we already began to strangle them like a snake. Oh, the signal you wonder how that was sent well it was a firework it was enough to alert the enemies but that is what we want then we will start the cannon fire on both sides blowing this whole shifty village to high heavens!

*BOOM BOOOM BOOMx10000*

Honestly, I think I am going to go deaf I have never heard anything this loud. Hearing hundreds of cannons roaring at once is something I will never be able to forget... But I witnessed something even more striking the cannonballs flying downrange in this first volley were made by my gunsmiths and alchemists in Abydos these are explosive balls that will explode either when they hit something or sometimes honestly in midair and those are causing even more damage! But my heart hurts a little These inaccurate cannons are smashing not only the village but the harmless ships with barely a soul on them we caught these pirates with their pants down why did I even need to fire our shots from the fleet? Note for next time do not get so excited and make petty mistakes these ships will be mine, but the damage isn't so great now let's see how Mehmet handles these filthy pirates!

"I Mehmet general under Şehzade Alaeddin Will lead you to victory follow me men and send these filthy pirates to their maker!"

This general Mehmet lined the troops up with infantry arrayed out to block the pirates from running away but also some infantry is in an attacking formation currently rushing toward the city with their guards up... soon the first group entered this so-called "village" this place is now even worse than it was before it is now basically rubble only after a single volley from over a hundred cannons!

After checking their surroundings, they continued forward where they eventually met some enemies, but they immediately surrendered... It is probably more appropriate to call them survivors than an enemy. After meeting and sending back about 200 or more prisoners to their general, these brave men eventually ran into the main forces of these pirates who seemed to be waiting for them but these pirates some of them are not even wearing a shirt let alone armor! A small group of about 40 men was wearing their clothes properly and even had chain mail covering their upper bodies. They lined up near a man who had on full clothing that looked very affluent compared to the men around him.

These men in the back seemed to be making a fire and soon something shot in the air and *boom* then these men slowly started backing up and soon the pirates couldn't see their biggest enemies and they began to celebrate that their enemies were scared off by their courage and numbers... well their celebrations were cut short because soon you could feel the ground rumble a bit and in their view, they could see their worst nightmare a group of armored devils riding toward them to ferry them to the underworld!

"I don't want to die" "Run!!! Running!!"

"But the captain is here!!!"

"Surrender and we will spare you!"

These 50 or so scattered these 300 or 400 men before they even made it to the square and by the time, they arrived it was a rabble just being trampled in the first charge and a small melee before turning around and letting the infantry fly in and slaughter a few more men until...

"Surrender and we will spare you!"

"We surrender we surrender!"

By the time I arrived in town followed by my guard and Evrenos, the whole situation was solved, and all the pirates were tied up and kneeling!

FU** YEAH! Two rewards back-to-back! But it also makes me a little sad all this excitement it'll be hard to live up to this again. But this quest is super vague if this was a game, I played I would've been online looking at tutorials before even trying Haha... Okay, let's use some logic it most likely is that leader of theirs he... Wait damn that is a pretty guy I mean he is probably Italian but my no f*c*ing way!

I walked to the pirates who were tied up and grabbed the leader who felt like half my size... Somehow my height is similar to my previous life I am 6'4 the previous soul got an imported horse as a gift because we couldn't ride any of the Turkic ponies near bursa because of our size Haha. But still, I need to take a closer look at this person this quest could end up being easy to continue I know these storylines. Soon I brought him into the only building standing as it was made from stone, and it seemed to have not been struck at all.

"So, are you going to say it?" I asked in Latin, which I never learned, but it's all there in the memory bank feels natural thanks to previous me! No reply to it just looked up at me a little depressed and confused.

"You're not going to say huh? Well, it's an easy fix you should all have at least a pair of mine right haha" Then I can't say this is my thing, but Middle Ages Ya' know! I proceeded to prop this person up on its feet and then rip open its full shirt to its surprise it began to struggle and fight back but it was just too small after a brief kerfuffle I managed to restrain it enough to also rip the undershirt only to reveal some other undergarments like God is it wearing clothing as armor damn!

After some more fighting, I managed to secure it one last time to at long last reveal what I wanted to verify kindly with words but no reply so being a man of action I must follow my heart and figure this out! And... The big reveal is she! What a surprise I did not expect this oh my I am truly shocked. Why are there two fluffy mountains hiding in a would-be man's shirt oh my!

*Huff Huff* After catching my breath from this small scuffle "See I asked nicely but you did not answer so as your captor and now owner I must verify the basics of my property that includes gendering. You know what a very heroic character does such as I look like owning a mysterious creature such as you were well before you were "Verified" by me." I stated.

with a humorous tone and a smirk. But my company just did not seem to understand such a thing she looked very hmm... Aggrieved and with a touch of I've been assaulted look I don't like it.

"Listen, my lady, I must apologize but you caught my curiosity and lost this battle... I mean why do you a robbing pirate where such an aggrieved look I bet your men have done far worse things than check someone's gender to satisfy a curiosity I am sure you witnessed such things right?" I again spoke trying to egg a reply anyone would feel something from such words, right? And soon she spoke finally.

*Sigh* "I would like some clothing... If I am now your property, don't you now have to show some decency right?" she asked not even hiding her sense of superiority.

"Oh, clothes hmm I cannot say I brought any lady's clothes with me... But my lady If your ladies' clothes have not been buried, I will have someone claim them for you so as not to be sold as loot sound good Ms. Pirate captain?"

"I HAVE NO LADY'S CLOTHES! *HUFF* I am no lady. I mean I am, but I have my own goals I will not be a dainty lady because that can only get me stuck on a man's thigh" she said with a look of determination.

So, I asked "Goals? What goals does the greatest pirate of the straits have? is it to rape, pillage, and kill merchants? or let me take a real guess I am going to say you're supposed to Mary a man from a family more affluent than yours... oh and your family was once great and have fallen on hard times so you sold what you could and ran away and somehow with the men you brought with you built this pirate fleet?" I asked calmly.

"Who are you? You have to be that new governor on the coast.

that restored an ancient city... Yeah, it can only be that why else would you know me, but I do not know you, I know every leader in the coastal provinces we have one dealing or another" she said running through her thoughts out loud.

"If you must know I am Şehzade Alaeddin son of Sultan Orhan Gazi I am the so-called young lion of Gallipoli by the Greeks need any more information? Miss I am being very merciful toward you had it been your western brethren in Christ they would've marched you in front of the troops as a trophy exposed and hopeless and have a good time with your body until you are a broken soulless husk of your former self! I DARE SAY I AM VERY MERCIFUL TO A PIRATE WHO MAY HAVE KILLED SOME OF MY BROTHERS I AM TREATING YOU VERY COURTEOUSLY! *high clears throat* Miss I say again have I treated you tastelessly in any way other than verifying your gender I say that was the only way considering you have not answered my questions even though I have given you this chance to speak you refused as if you have some power or reliance... You are a pirate by law this may be out of my hands I tried to help you, but you will wish you had spoken to me because soon they will torture you whether you confess or not then send you either into slavery or to the gallows!" After about 2 minutes she began to cry and explain her situation

"I... I am sorry I just this situation is terrible I woke up to my dock and village being attacked by your witchcraft! I say you were very aggressive to me in my entire existence no one has ever laid a hand on my skin let alone strip me bare for their eyes to feast upon my flesh like a starved wolf. But these are just the excuses of a criminal who has been caught by you. But I will explain one important thing to you. My fleet has never and will never attack the eastern merchants that be the Rus, Turks, or Arabs we have never attacked even the Greeks that is why my fleet is so big it is made of men who are from these areas who are fighting back against the Venetian swine! I only attack Venetian navy boats or merchants with close military ties with Venice not even Venetian merchants were my target. My fleet made our fortunes on the seas by ransoming Venetian marines and commanders of their escort squads and charging them bounties to cross the Hellespont" she said looking upset then that turned to serious than too proud. Let's get her name and background maybe we can make her submit herself to me!

"So, miss lioness what shall I call you I still haven't heard your name. If you are worried about familial repercussions have no worries, I am no Venetian and definitely will never side with those intrusive snakes. I also want to add I have indeed seen you naked and am the only male to enjoy such a bountiful gift so you could at least grace me with the name of the woman who will be living in my dreams." I said easing the last of this woman's worries.

You do not mean such things" *huff huff* she said with a red face covering her mouth and only covering her bountiful chest with just a skinny arm leaving less to my imagination so I just gave her my cloak for now since I am sure she isn't just a basic pirate at this point we can be more cordial.

"My name is Aurelia Della Scala, or some call us the Scaliger's we are the rulers of Verona and mainland Veneto, so we have a continuous problem with Venice," she said her name given a perfect introduction as if it was ingrained from birth. she then bowed and gave a glance then continued to finish her sentence a lot differently than the pirate man/girl a few minutes ago.

"So, miss Giada, hmm... Like jade relaxing and comforting I like the name but you my lady are more a lioness. I wish to call you either lioness or Bastet if you don't know then I shall enlighten you she was a lioness goddess violent and restless and eventually she became a cat goddess cute and lovable showing the world how to be motherly and nurturing. I see these qualities in you I do not know if you agree but I stand firm on this, you are the bravest of the ladies I have met in this life" I said trying to be complementary and also flirt a little this woman I think I can tame her into a nice house cat because she has been out far too long ha-ha.

Why are you being soft and attentive toward me now are you courting me a lady who dresses like a man to lead pirates into battle I have lost my reputation I have been around countless males with no supervision, and you dare to say these to me aren't I your enemy what if a reputation less woman like me accepts your advances and hurts you next?" she asked her face glowing red with frustration and with a little excitement mixed in. This day was way too much for this woman lets have her stick around Abydos as a "Captive" for a few days while I settle everything on my end with the sultan and for more things than have this woman become a concubine yea, I like that!

"Hey, let me ask you am I ugly!? Do I come across as stupid or immature!? Am I a weak man like the men in your family who let a lady run to protect them!? A reputation what is that to me, would you dare lie to me look me in my eyes have you had a love? Have you had a man? tell me don't shy away I will only become more aggressive to get my answers" I stated with cold eyes trying my best to look through this woman in front of me.

"I. I said I have ruined my reputation by being around men without my family's supervision I cannot in good conscience consider any man I will drag them do..." I picked her up princess style with my cloak falling over my arms exposing my lioness once more to my cold and ravenous gaze.

*Huff Huff Huff* *Deep breath* "I have not had a man I only exposed myself and b..been touched by you prince here today *Moan* now at this moment this is the only time I have been touched *moan huff* I...I answered d..did" I then sealed a kiss onto our pirate girl's lips and added a bit of a hot tongue invasion to spice up this first encounter between a master and slaves tongue the most intriguing is she did not fight back anymore I think this is good progress lets now settle the politics as well!

"Oh, so my lady does have her honor indeed I know a good woman when I see one... Well, you are very receptive to my movements maybe my lady wants me to continue. Because the men I fight with would rather run or die trying than be slaved to a ruler they only stayed close and were captured because they were near me now the other 1000 or so men if they lived, they would serve for a price different from those men in the square."

Once they are done with the construction of the fort, they are to leave a small garrison of locally trained town guardsmen and cannon crew and a small number of cannon vessels to monitor the surrounding waters.

After arriving in Abydos, I was swamped with work because of my conquest we are expecting a giant increase in population that could affect our entire sultanate! We are expecting including our conquest of Gallipoli 30-40000 new citizens there are at least 20000 people in the tribes that have sent some warriors and a representative ahead to scout their lands and get things prepared for the majority that follows them.

I plan to place these tribes on the border of Gallipoli and Thrace so they have a chance to raid all other tribes who are less militant and can just have some extra lands in Gallipoli and around Abydos there is tons of land free after the farms were upgraded they were rescaled to fit their environment and workforce so there isn't much waste of land at the moment and when we take Macedonia and northern Thrace we can settle the tribes there with the probable hordes of other tribes wanting to get in on the action.

Once we reach this point, we can then hold the upper hand in Anatolia considering our manpower and armies will be extensive and our navy is already superior to Turkic sultanates and I'm pretty sure my elite number will surpass the sultanates soon, but the downside is my income is less than my upkeep for my armies If my treasury wasn't loaded with gold coins I would be ruined!

But I have about 27000 coins and my upkeep is 4450 as of this week with the addition of the general's bodyguard and a new cannon unit and ottoman infantry it flew over the line pretty quickly but I'm only in the red right now 150 a week and with the Turkic tribes looting and trading we can probably bring in an extra 800-1000 coins a week and personal trading is up to 580-coin profit.

So as of now, we can recruit depending on the units but about 7-10 more units before we reach red in profits again. well, if we aren't expanding that is. I am not sure I want to continue to expand there are too many projects that sound better than expansion at the moment. because once you expand into Europe more the pope will call a crusade most likely after we get Thessalonica and Adrianople it'll begin our fight with the Balkans and therefore draw the attention of the Catholics.

Before I take another big city, I want to reform the law here and add more fortresses in the straits I want to control all trade coming from the west into Constantinople and the black sea putting me at odds with existing trade and naval dominant forces including the Venetians and the Genoese. And the pirate order in Rhodes or whatever people call them some "holy order" but they are just pirates I don't get how they added religion to piracy, but they are holy pirates ha-ha!

Also, we must see if we can improve our system for making steel. The easiest would be a Bessemer converter which doesn't require advanced technology I don't have or advanced knowledge I just need to explain to the alchemists, Cannon smiths, and Blacksmiths that will be here after the city is upgraded, they will have more expertise in metallurgy making it a streamlined process.

Once the idea is there and a design they can tweak and retry over and over until we make one that works properly then scale it up to a larger version and train manual laborers how to use the converter and like magic a steel factory is up and running, 6 months tops I give myself to achieve this.
