Hard Mission

Selena's POV

"Are you okay?" I heard Skyler's husky voice, and I snapped back into the present and stopped myself from fantasizing about him; since he was standing so close to me that I could almost hear the beating of his heart, and I hated that I became speechless as I looked at him.

"Are you checking me out?" He asked, grinning, and I frowned at him.

"Why do you think I was checking you out? Don't flatter yourself, Mr. Superstar," I responded, and he chuckled as he put his hands on the door frame over my head, and I could feel the hammering of my heart as he looked at me in the eyes; I was starting to believe that his brother could be right, Sky must like me.

I couldn't think straight as I could breathe in his intoxicating scent. Skyler smelled so good that I wanted to sniff his neck, even if he was covered in sweat, since I could tell he had been training, and when I looked at his mouth, I wanted to die for wanting to have a taste of his full red lips.

I had never been kissed before and dreamed of being kissed by Skyler Alcarazo. I knew girls at the academy would laugh if they learned about my deepest fantasies, and one of those was having Sky as my boyfriend.

It was hilarious since it would be impossible to have him in my life since I knew the kind of girl he wanted to spend time with, and it was definitely not me. He loved talking and hanging out with girls from the cheering squad while I was the Library type of girl who would always spend time at the farthest side of the library during my free time, answering my assignments in advance.

I don't belong to the honor roll, but I am not at the bottom either; in short, I belong to the average, and I knew I needed to study hard to pass the scholarship that I would be applying for college.

"Please, stop calling me that; I hadn't heard you call me by my first name," Skyler said as I could see the dismay on his face.

"Why, isn't it that you want? You love those girls screaming your name every time you were at the basketball court, don't tell me you don't like it?" I asked.

"You are not one of those girls, Selene," he said.

"It is Selena, not Selene," I corrected him, but he only grinned at me, and I wondered what was wrong with the Alcarazo brothers and why they liked giving me nicknames.

"For me, you are Selene," he responded as his intense gaze shifted to my lips, and I didn't want to believe that Sky would be flirting with me.

The way he looked at me made me feel like I was losing my ability to stand, and I was beginning to believe in Stanley that his brother had a thing for me.

"What are you doing here?" I asked when I couldn't find the right words to answer him.

"I was looking for your father," he replied as he stepped back.

I hated myself for hoping he would stay where he was because I couldn't deny his proximity gave me a different kind of thrill.

"Maybe he went home already," I said.

"Yeah, I thought so," he responded, and I could feel that Skyler wanted to talk more. I was wondering what I had done to deserve this chance to have a pleasant conversation with him, and if I had only told Stanley about how I felt for Sky, I would be so excited to share with him about this encounter I had with his hot brother.

I kept it a secret from him since Stan kept telling me that girls should avoid his elder brother at all costs because Skyler was more interested in his sport rather than having a serious relationship with any girls on campus.

I couldn't disagree with my best friend because I knew how much Sky loved basketball, and he was really good at his chosen sport, and I could tell it was his life.

Everyone in Santa Clara adored him and knew he would someday become famous all over the country.

He was the Basketball Superstar in our school, and there had been scouts who offered him to be part of their team, but Sky wanted to enjoy his last year in High School before he chose which team he will join and become a professional basketball player.

His father begged him to finish High School at Santa Clara Valley Academy since Don Florencio Alcarazo wanted to have his children near him. If Skyler will go pro, he needed to be at Vazilia Grande, the country's capital city.

Skyler and Stanley were born with silver spoons in their mouths since their family owned the largest coconut plantation in Santa Clara, and they have companies based in the capital. Still, his father wanted to reside at the Alcarazo ancestral house.

Their great-grandfather has built their mansion, but still in good condition and one of the most beautiful mansions in our country.

"Can I take you home?" He asked, and his question took me off guard, and I panicked about why he suddenly wanted to take me home.

"What?" I asked, and I wanted to take back my question. I wanted to say yes right away, but I still had my pride; I didn't want him to think I was one of those girls who threw themselves at him any chance they could get.

"I said, I want to take you home," he answered, and I laughed.

"I can walk to our house, and why would you do that?" I asked, and I could see the irritation on his handsome face as he looked at me.

"I wanted to have a word with your father, and since I will be driving to your house, I want you to ride with me on my motorcycle," he answered with seriousness.

I tried not to show him my excitement since I had been dying to ride on his big bike like those cheerleaders, and I couldn't stop feeling sad knowing I would be riding on his motorcycle because he wanted to see my father and not because he wished to have a date with me.

I was shocked when he grabbed my wrist, and I could feel the knots on my belly as I felt his warm hand on my skin, and I couldn't stop myself from smiling like an idiot.

My heart was beating fast as we ceased walking in front of his big bike. He told me it would be more fun riding it without a helmet, but I shook my head. I knew the rule of riding a motorcycle since my father always reminded me to wear my helmet every time I used his ordinary motorcycle. I had been bugging him to buy something expensive to tease him.

I know my dad couldn't afford to buy a big bike like Harley Davidson, but I know he dreamed of having that kind of big bike, which I wish to fulfill someday. My father is a mechanic, and that is why Mr. Alcarazo hired him.

The evening breeze brushed my skin as Sky put the helmet over my head, and I could tell I was blushing; I could feel my excitement double when I mounted on his back, and when he revved the engine, it felt like I was his girlfriend when he asked me to put my arms around his waist.

It was less than a five-minute ride since he was driving his big bike fast, but it felt like I was riding with him for a long time, and I hated when he stopped in front of our house, and I realized the fun ended briefly.

My father came out of the house, and I could tell he was shocked that I was with Skyler and not with Stanley.

I greeted my father before I got inside the house, and I could hear Skyler talking with my dad right away about his car, and I wanted to linger and listen, but I didn't want Sky to think I was interested in him.

I couldn't sleep thinking about Skyler and couldn't believe I rode on his big bike.

"Wow, I could tell you nailed it, Selena," Stan said after I got inside his car the following morning, and I looked at him with confusion on my face.

"You don't need to hide it from me; I knew you overdid it but thank you." He added.

"What are you talking about, Stan? I hate riddles," I answered.

"I saw you with my brother last night," he replied, and I needed to swallow my saliva to control my heart from reacting.

"You could be an actress, Selena," he said as he beamed at me, and I faked a smile since I felt so guilty because last night, I wasn't pretending; I was happy last night when I was with Skyler.

"All we need to do now is to plan everything perfectly," Stanley added, and I wanted to back out, but the triumphant look on his face was enough for me to keep my mouth shut and feign I was doing all of it for him.

"You looked great together, and it was a shame that you had to break his heart, Selena," He continued, and I wished to tell him I was not sure about that since there would be a tendency that the table will turn and I will be the one who will suffer the consequences of our plans.

"I am just curious; why are you so desperate to teach your brother about love lessons, Stanley?" I asked.

"To make him realize he should treat girls with respect," he answered.

"It was their choice to throw themselves at your brother, and I don't think it was your brother's fault that they got hurt at the end," I responded, and his eyes widened in shock.

"Are you now on his side? Why are you defending my brother after spending a little time with him, Selena? Don't tell me you are beginning to fall for him too?" He asked, sounding hurt.

"I am not taking sides, and I am not interested in him; I just don't get it, and why now?" I asked back, and I could tell there was something more.

"It's Dayana," he mumbled.

"What about her?" I asked back.

"We talked about my brother, and she gave me a hard mission to fulfill, and if I could do it, she would give me a chance to date her," he replied, and my face fell.

"You are doing all this for a girl?" I asked, and his face turned crimson.

"She is my first love, Selena, and my brother ruined all my plans; Sky stole Dayana from me when all he ever wanted was to prove to our friends he could have Dayana and could break her heart at the same time." He replied as I could see the anger on his face.

"You should have warned him not to hurt Dayana," I softly said, and he shook his head.

"Skyler would never listen to me, and I am sure he will only tell me I was envious of him," Stanley replied, and I could feel his insecurities through his voice.

"You are my only hope, Selena," He added.

"What if it will not work?" I asked, worried.

"You have to believe me, Selena, my brother, likes you, and he was only afraid to confess his feelings for you because it wasn't his style.

Girls would line up and don't care if they would be the ones to confess to him." He replied as he looked at my face.

"All you have to do is get the courage to tell Sky about your fake feelings, but what you did last night was amazing; continue to flirt with him until he can no longer fight his feelings for you." He added, and I let out a heavy sigh.

"Why do you need to do this with him because of that girl?" I softly asked.

"I have told you about Dayana a thousand times, and as my best friend, you have to understand that I wanted to have her, Selena. I don't care if she will use me to get back at my brother as long as I can have her as my girlfriend." Stanley said with finality while I was no longer interested in doing it, especially after spending time with Skyler.
