Horror was reflected in Aiden's eyes the moment his ring was destroyed. He could not believe what just happened.

The younger vampire raised his eyes and looked at Ryan, expecting some kind of explanation. What he got was a smile from the elder vampire instead.

"Why?" Aiden choked out in disbelief after some time. "Why did you do that?"

Ryan rubbed at the spot around Aiden's ring finger lovingly.

"A marriage symbol of the past no longer befits the presence. Besides, you did ask for an annulment."

There was a hint of admonishment in Ryan's voice. Aiden was enraged.

He yanked his hand off Ryan's grip right away.

"Is this your way of breaking up with me?" he asked, tears starting to build in his eyes.

It was too cruel.

Indeed, Aiden asked for an annulment, but he never wanted to destroy the ring!

"You silly boy," Ryan said in response.

"Of course not, but there was no other way."
