A peek behind the veil

*Narrator pov*

The golden city of Asgard gleamed under the eternal radiance of a cosmic sun. Towers of glistening gold and silver soared towards the heavens, their spires adorned with intricate runes that shimmered with enchantment. Bridges of rainbow hues arched gracefully over crystalline waterfalls, connecting realms within the city.

Gardens of ethereal beauty sprawled beneath the celestial canopy, where vibrant flowers seemed to sing in harmony with the gentle zephyrs. Statues of revered gods and goddesses adorned the avenues, each carved with impeccable detail, capturing the essence of their divine presence.

In the heart of Asgard, the grand palace of Odin stood tall, its majestic facade reflecting the wisdom and might of the Allfather. The courtyard, a mosaic of precious stones, showcased the cosmic patterns that guided the fates of gods and mortals alike.

A rainbow bridge, the Bifrost, arched across the city, a breathtaking display of colors that connected realms and brought beings from distant corners of the cosmos. As it shimmered with an iridescent glow, it whispered tales of interdimensional journeys and the vastness of the Nine Realms.

At the outskirts, the Golden Meadows stretched endlessly, bathed in the soft glow of the cosmic sun. Here, mythical creatures grazed peacefully, and the air was filled with the harmonious sounds of unseen enchantments.

As the day unfolded in Asgard, the city's beauty was a testament to the divine craftsmanship that shaped its existence. It stood as a celestial masterpiece, a beacon of splendor in the vast cosmos, where magic and majesty coexisted in a timeless dance.

As you get closer to the city you begin to realize something, the golden city isn't so golden.

the rainbow bridge is just illusion magic, the golden glow is turning brown, and the lush grounds were made out of fake materials.

The Golden City Of Asgard wasn't so golden after all. The people looked depressed as they went about their days, the average resident had sunken sleepless eyes as if they have been awake for years.

The fake rainbow bridge was a reminder of what happened when the veil was created. The Bifrost stopped working and everyone that was on earth at the time was hunted.

It was a reminder of that man.

Near the palace you could see a group of female warriors training arduously, their armor seemed to weigh tons but the Valkriyes pushed forward not drawing even a sweat.

Helga watched from a balcony a deep sadness In her eyes, "We will win this time around," a voice said behind her

Turning around Helga saw a tall man with long blond hair, his eyes seemed to pulse with electricity, "Thor, how can you be sure?" Helga asked softly

"We are finally working together, soon we will weaken the veil enough to launch a proper attack," Thor explained walking closer to Helga

"You won't go after the innocent civilians right?" Helga asked to confirm

Thor chuckled, "Of course who do you take us as savages?" he shook his head disgusted at the mere thought

Helga frowned, "I'm sorry, Morpheus would always -"

Thor cut her off, "Morpheus is a madman blinded by anger, do not take his words to heart," anger seemed to roll from Thor's body

"Really brother calm down you are scaring poor Helga," A voice sounded turning Helga saw a tall skinny man with black hair

"Loki," Helga replied with a sigh

Thor held his anger in, "Brother, what brings you over?" he asked

Loki shrugged, "Demons, they seem to be in a fuss, seems Morpheus hunted them down and he also killed an angel," he replied standing out on the giant balcony with them

Helga frowned, "It doesn't make any sense, Morpheus is moving too fast he is cautious by nature," she said in confusion

Loki chuckled earning a glare from Helga, "To you, it might not make any sense but to us, it is more worrisome than him being cautious. When he makes moves like this then something is going his way," Loki cursed under his breath

Thor nodded gravely, "He is confident, and when Morpheus is confident the most dangerous things tend to happen," his fist clenched so hard blood began to drip onto the ground

As night fell Helga was left alone with her thoughts, she could feel the magic in the lands fading slowly. She hated the feeling of not being able to breathe.

*Helga pov*

Not being able to sleep I decided to sneak out of my room and enter the gardens. As I walked through the gardens many of the plants that were vibrant when I came here now looked rotten.

Another effect of the veil.

When I was on the brink of death, no one was around a voice reached out to me and asked if I wanted to live. I who was allied with Morpheus had a good guess on who contacted me.

I thought I was ready to die, I was ready to face Valhalla.

I was wrong, I was a coward to agree to change my race for the chance to live again. And I don't regret being a coward that day.

Now that I live behind the veil I have gained a new perspective on this war, the people here talk about Morpheus and his brother as if they are the plague.

Morpheus talks about demons, gods, angels, and everything in between as if they are the most evil things to walk the planet.

When I first arrived I didn't know what to do, Morpheus practically made me hate these beings without even knowing them. As I spent time here I grew to realize one crucial thing..

"Helga, what brings you out here?" An aged voice brought me from my thoughts

I looked back spotting Odin himself, "Couldn't sleep," I replied with a small chuckle

Odin nodded, "Aye, I couldn't either," he strode next to me as I appreciated the plants

"Odin?" I asked

"Yes Helga?" he awaited my questions

Smiling I asked, "Can you tell me again on how you all got your names?" I asked

Odin nodded, "Names? It was pretty simple before went to Earth we all argued over who should own it. The demons wanted it for one purpose, the angels for another, and of course, we wanted it. Finally, we had enough and ventured over to have a look. The race we found was primitive and easily impressed a couple of simple spells blew them away. As we visited more and more they began to call us strange names, eventually, the names stuck," Odin finished with a shrug and a deep laugh

To joke about owning a place like Earth, like the humans there were some buffoons. No matter how many times I hear this story it makes me sick.

Thankfully his sons aren't this narrow-minded.

"Your sons mentioned Morpheus seems dangerous lately? He's kicking up a fuss somewhere," I laughed lightly

Odin nodded, "Yes, Morpheus that bastard is causing endless trouble like always we are just glad his brother is not around,"

As we talked and walked the night grew and eventually I became drowsy, excusing myself I made my way back to my room and fell asleep.

Hoping for a better tomorrow.
