Shani felt that fragile bubble around her and Harkin quiver. The moment between them, soft and warm and safe, was in stark contrast to their very unromantic environment of messy, noisy shifters in a crowded underground cavern.

The “I love yous” deserved better, but there wasn’t a foreseeable moment of peace to exchange them, but Shani still felt her own honesty in the words that she shared with her only love. But she could tell Harkin wanted to say more, maybe wanted her to say more, and she knew what the topic would be. Her mind searched itself for answers, asking the heart and body if they shared sentiments with her soul.
